Who is Samarias?
Sami is a sexy gentle giant.  He’s sweet, kind, smart and hides a huge secret. A secret that has been tearing him apart and as the mysterious actions of the last few weeks start to reveal themselves, will Sami be able to survive all he learns?

“What are you doing here, Sami?” she whispered the question, gazing up at him.
“Brimstone…uh, needed a ride and I’m trying to help find your sister.” Sami gazed down at her, noticing that her lips were just inches from his. Her scent surrounded him, making it hard to concentrate on anything except how close she was to him, and the wondrous feelings racing through him.
“No, that’s not it, is it?” Her eyes narrowed angrily on him.
“I don’t understand…why do you hate me?”
“Who says I hate you?” Her eyes widened in surprise and her voice grew husky as she spoke. Cocking her head to the side just a bit, Hellfire ran her smoky eyes up and down him, making his blood boil under her gaze. Sami fought to stay calm. It sure seemed like she hated him, although now…
“I know what you want…” Her eyes continued to look him over as her hands reached out to touch him again.
“What?” Sami shivered. Her hands slowly ran up the muscles of his chest to his pecs beneath his T-shirt, before moving on to squeeze the muscles in his upper arms. He didn’t dare take his eyes off her.
“Mmm…nice…” She bit her lip as she surveyed him, silver eyes glittering with mischief. Sami’s blood ran hot and his cock strained against his jeans. He held his breath as her gaze slid down to his waistband. Her tongue darted out and wet her lower lip before worrying it between her teeth. Then silver eyes met his, shocking him at the fire he saw in them. “This is what you want…isn’t it?” she asked, wrapping her fingers in his hair, she pulled his head down.
The second Sami’s lips touched Hellfire’s, his blood rushed furiously in his veins and his cock throbbed with a desire to be buried deep inside of her. She tasted better than he could have ever imagined.
“This! This is what you want, isn’t it?” She breathed and pulled away, making him groan. He was on fire, and all his pain and darkness had gone. He wanted her so badly, his pulse was racing, and his dragon was roaring like a gorilla beating its chest for more.

What others are saying…

Sheri-Lynn Marean did it again! She captured my attention within the first few pages, leaving me feeling satisfied about reading her latest addition and craving more. This author is different from most when it comes to her series. I find others are very repetitive in their writings, constant use of same words or sentences, no real individuality for each book, just different characters. Revelations focuses on Sami and his inner demons past and present.
Just like any war there are many battles and obstacles to overcome. Can he find happiness after Hellfire, his destined soulmate? Can he ever make peace with his traumatic childhood and stop blaming himself? Can he learn to be honest about his feelings and stop hiding his pain from his closest loved ones? Only one way to find out and that is by reading the newest addition in the series, I promise you won’t be disappointed. ~ Samaria ~ Goodreads Reviewer

***

Sheri-Lynn Marean and her stories just want to make me squeal with excitement. Dracones is such a different type of Dragon story. The perspective of the children growing up and not fully understanding what a Dragon is capable of makes these so interesting. And this is only the 2nd book. Wow.
Dracones Awakening is the first book and explains their journey to Earth and Jax and Tierney part.
Dracones Revelations is the 2nd book and it centers on Jax’s brother Sami. His inner struggle with his Dragon and not being able to get the girl Hellfire out of his mind. Hellfire in my opinion will tee you off more than once here, she sure did me lol.
I loved the creativity of the characters. I felt their pain and suffering, their hopes and dreams, everything!! That is when you know it’s a wonderful book to read, one you can get lost in. Sweet. ~ Sharon ~ Goodreads Reviewer

The Found, Book Two

By Caitlyn O’Leary

Chapter One

“Put on your clothes.  You disgust me.”  Seth was beyond tired, and seeing his wife on his bed, naked and spread for him made his bile rise.

“Carson, I need you, remember how it was?”  She tried to entice him by playing with her breasts.

Seeing her gown on the floor, he picked it up and tossed it on top of her.  “That’s the problem Portia, I don’t remember anything, let alone it ever being any good.”

“That night together was the best night of my life.  It could be like that again if you’d just try, dammit.”

“Get out of my room,” his voice deadly.  Her eyes widened and she scrambled off the bed.

“Fine, but don’t think this is the end.  You are going to make me pregnant again.  Daddy wants a grandchild.”

“Oh cut the bullshit, there was never a baby in the first place.  You dragged my ass to the altar under false pretenses.”

“Carson, you got me pregnant that night.  You believed me before, why don’t you believe me now?”

The million dollar question.  He knew from the moment he laid eyes on her she was a criminal and likely involved in drug smuggling with her father.  He intended to put her behind bars, and instead he had married her to protect his unborn child.  A child that likely never existed.

“Get the fuck out, Portia, before I do something we both regret.”

She slung the gown over her shoulder and left his room, uncaring if the servants saw her naked or not.  His wife was quite a piece of work.

Seth…Carson, whatever the fuck his name was, Hell he was beginning to question his own identity.  Yanking at the bowtie of his tuxedo it knotted tighter instead of opening.

“Good, maybe I’ll choke.”  He was sick of living the double life.  Finally he pulled, ripping it apart at the seam.  “God damn motherfucker!”  He did the same with the cuffs of his shirt, satisfied when the cufflinks flew across the room.  They were gold with diamonds.  Maybe the maids would steal them.  “Good for them.”

Fuck, he needed to shut the hell up, it was a bad habit to talk out loud.  He knew his room was bugged.  There was a damn good chance of video surveillance too.  Once when Portia was high she said she hoped there was, that it added to the spice.

Not that he would touch her.  He warned her when they started this travesty of a marriage it wouldn’t be consummated, but she hadn’t believed him.  Hence the weekly ritual.  Sometimes she’d bring in some kind of sex toy, one night he’d found her tied spread eagle to the bed.  He didn’t even want to know who had helped her into the position.

He pulled off the rest of his clothes, hoping they would tear as well, but they didn’t.  At least one of his dress shoes left a dent in the wall.  They could report he had a temper tantrum for all he cared.  It had been an ugly fucking night and Portia was the cherry on top.  He needed a long hot shower to erase the stench of the scum he brushed up against.

God, he hoped it would help his headache.  Grabbing three ibuprofen and some Rolaids he chewed them all down, praying it would help his head and his stomach by the time he finished the hot shower.

He often wondered if they had audio and video in the shower too, it wouldn’t surprise him.  Nothing surprised him about these bastards.  Had he ever had such a bad headache?  It was the woman at the party, she reminded him of his Annie, and then he had to listen to Lobado’s men talk about their new source of income.  The pulse of pain in his head was so bad his eyes started to water.

What the fuck had he gotten himself into?

****

Annie reminded herself to be happy.  She escaped from the people intent on kidnapping her baby, but all she could focus on was her baby’s father.  Somehow she managed to drive Seth away.  She took out his letter, went to her desk, and pulled out the tape.  Carefully she taped the seams where it was coming apart because she had unfolded and folded it so often.

“Annie,

I won’t be coming home after this assignment.  Things have changed.  I have changed.  I have decided on a new life.  I deeply regret the promises I made to you but will be unable to honor.

I won’t defile our time together by speaking of it now, only know this, you are loved.

I am entrusting this letter with my father, so you can tell him if you need anything.  I can no longer claim the name Natani, but you will always be cared for by the family of Natani.

Seth”

Annie pushed the paper flat against the desk.  She didn’t know why she wanted to look at it.  The letter had almost killed her when Rafe Natani, Seth’s father, had handed it to her almost a year ago.

****

Seth’s parents had found her at her apartment not far from the college in Farmington, New Mexico where she was spending a lot of her time.  She was working on her doctoral thesis in Archeology based on the Anasazi, and using the college campus library.

“Miss Newman, you don’t know us, but we’re Seth’s parents.  Would you allow us to come in?”  Everything dropped away as Annie looked at the middle aged Native American couple on her porch.  Dear God, Seth had died on assignment with the DEA.  Annie grabbed her swollen abdomen and fell to her knees, staring up at the caring faces of Seth’s parents.

“Quick Rafe, let’s help her inside.”

“Seth, is he?  Did he?  Did he suffer?”

“Oh honey, no.  He’s not dead.  We’re handling this badly.  Let us help you.  Seth’s not dead.  He’s fine.”  The Natani’s helped Annie into her cooler apartment, and settled her on the couch.

“What can I get you to drink?” the woman asked as she hurried towards the kitchen.

“I don’t need anything.  Where’s Seth?  Is he hurt?  Is he finally home?”

“He’s not hurt.  He’s not home.  My name is Rafe, the woman currently rummaging through your kitchen is my wife Wanda.”  Annie looked at his hand holding hers over the large swell of her tummy.  They both looked up at the same time.

“Am I going to be a grandfather?”

“I’d prefer to tell Seth he’s going to be a father first.”

“I brought you some lemonade.  I also found some graham crackers, I thought they would suit.”  Wanda sat down on the other side of her husband after handing her the glass and setting the plate on the coffee table.  She squeezed her husband’s shoulder.  “She’s so young.”  She whispered to her husband, but Annie heard her.

“I’m twenty-four.”

Seth’s mother gave her a long considering look, Annie was used to it.  She knew she had a baby face.  “Do you want to see my driver’s license?  I’m actually working on my PhD.  I’m going to be twenty-five in three months.”  She watched as Wanda relaxed.

“I’m sorry honey, I worry for you.  I hate to see babies raising babies.”

“So do I, but I’m a grown woman, and I want my baby very much.  Please tell me why you’re here, this is killing me.”

“Are you pregnant with our son’s child?” Mr. Natani persisted.  Annie looked him in the eye, and was struck by the lack of family resemblance between Seth and his parents and then remembered the strange circumstances surrounding his adoption into the Natani home.

“I beg your pardon, but why are you here?”

This time Mrs. Natani spoke.  “Annie, we need you to stay strong,” she looked down at her belly.  “Especially now.”  She opened up her purse and pulled out a letter and handed it to her husband, who in turn handed it to Annie.  “Seth sent us a letter, with this letter enclosed.  He said we needed to be here when you opened it.”

It was the first time she read those words.  She didn’t say a word, didn’t cry, and showed no emotion.  She was used to rejection.  She didn’t know how she had managed to drive him away, but she had.  It was the story of her life, she had done something so wrong her mother abandoned her all those years ago.  The first foster home she lived in gave her back after two years.

She took small comfort in the fact he bothered to lie and say he had loved her.  She would cope, she always coped, no matter what her age, she coped.  Only this hurt a million times worse.  But she wouldn’t give into the hurt, she had her daughter to think about.  She stroked her tummy and murmured reassurance to Nell as she kicked in agitation.  Her baby felt her Mommy’s upset.

“It’s okay, baby girl,” Annie crooned.

“We’re having a granddaughter, Rafe!” Wanda cried out ecstatically, and Annie burst into tears.

“You need…You need to leave.”

“Miss Newman, we’re not leaving.  May I read the letter Seth gave you?”  It fell out of her numb fingers and fluttered to the floor as Annie tried to hand it him.  Picking it up, he read the note and then handed it to his wife.  Wanda took longer to read it, and when she finished she stifled a sob.

“You’re coming home with us Annie,” the woman said when she stopped crying.

The rest of the afternoon was a blur.  There was no way on God’s green Earth Annie would have thought her apartment in Farmington would be packed and she would agree to move to Shiprock with Seth’s parents, but it’s exactly what happened.  Wanda Natani was a force of nature.  Her husband was the steady wind behind the force, just steadily pushing, ensuring everything moved forward.

Annie didn’t have to lift a finger.  Somehow packers and movers showed up out of thin air within hours of the Natani’s arrival.  One of the moving men said he would drive her car to Shiprock, which is when she came out of her stupor.

“I’m more than capable of driving.”

“We never said you weren’t,” Rafe smiled easily.  Seth had the same smile, and it always meant the same thing, she was going to lose an argument.

“Then please give me back my keys.”  Annie held out her hand.  The whole day was surreal.  It was a month before she was due to deliver.  Her thesis was a week away from being done, and it felt like her life was over.  That kind of thinking was unacceptable.  She needed to take control.  She had her daughter to consider.

“Sure, Miss Newman, you can drive.  But the roads from here to Shiprock are icy.  Are your tires studded?  We want you to be safe.”

Damn, he made sense.

“Annie, you need to call her Annie, Rafe.  She’s our daughter now.” Wanda said as she came up and wrapped her arm around Annie’s shoulder.

“No, I’m not, what are you talking about?”

“Don’t panic, we’re not kidnapping you, this is totally your decision.  But know from this day forward we consider you our daughter.  We would have whether you were carrying our granddaughter or not.  We don’t understand the choices our son has made, but he has much love for you, and therefore we have much love for you.  You are part of our clan, our family, and our hearts.”  She studied their faces and read the truth in what she said.  For the second time Annie started crying.

“Miss Newman, I mean Annie, please don’t cry.”

“Hush Rafe, these are good tears.  She knows she finally has a home.”  Wanda pulled her into the warmest hug she could remember.

Annie rode in the Natani’s car to Shiprock.  When they got to their modest adobe home, the moving truck wasn’t there.  Instead an older woman was standing in the doorway, looking very elegant in a long caftan and boots.

“Mom.  What are you doing here?” Rafe called out.

“A good question, since my son didn’t see fit to tell me he was bringing home my granddaughter and great-granddaughter.”  The woman ignored her son and hugged her daughter-in-law before standing in front of Annie.

“Welcome Annie Newman.  My name is Shilah Natani.  I am your grandmother.”  For the second time Annie was engulfed in a pair of loving female arms.  This time Nell kicked out, surprising her and the older woman.  Shilah broke away, and rested her hand on Annie’s belly.  “And you little one, welcome.  What is your name?”

“Her name is Nell.”  Annie smiled, loving the fact Shilah treated Nell as an actual person, because in her eyes, Nell was a person, she just hadn’t come out to meet everyone yet.

“Welcome Nell, I am your great-grandmother.”  Annie felt her baby kick in obvious excitement.  It was like when she ate a piece of chocolate, or the few times she had gotten lost in a daydream about Seth.  Nell was extremely sensitive, just like her Daddy.  Tears formed for the third time but she willed them away.  She was not going to ruin the joy her daughter was feeling at that moment.

“Granddaughter, it is going to be all right.  This too shall pass.”

Annie looked into the eyes of a woman who though related to Seth by blood, really seemed to be his grandmother.  Maybe there actually was hope.

“There is reason to hope.  Trust me.”

Nell kicked again against this woman’s hand, as if she too was telling her to believe.  Annie’s tears dried up.

“You are right.  I am blessed.”

“You don’t believe it yet, but you will.  You are strong my granddaughter.  We don’t understand everything, but you need to know my grandson loves you.”

“I can’t Grandmother.  I can’t hold onto that, it will break me.  But I can believe in all of you.  I can believe in Nell, and I can believe in myself.”

“That’s enough for now.”  Shilah Natani pulled her towards the house, and they sat down while Wanda made hot chocolate.  Again Annie felt Nell’s pleasure.

“I wonder where the moving truck is, I need to call them,” Rafe said as he pulled out his cell phone.

“It’s at my house,” Shilah stated.  “The only room here, is Seth’s old room.  Annie wouldn’t want to stay in it.  It’s best she stays at my house.”

“Mom.”

“Shilah…” Wanda started.

“Annie, what do you think of that idea?” the older lady asked as she covered Annie’s hand with hers.  Why was she so drawn to her?  She turned her hand over and grasped it, like she would a lifeline.

“I would love to stay with you Mrs. Natani.”

“Please call me Grandmother, or Shilah whatever you are comfortable with.”

Annie thought it over.  Her mother had abandoned her when she was six.  She had never had a grandmother.  Again, looking into this woman’s eyes was like looking into a part of Seth.  Even though he had abandoned her as well, it was like a part of him was still with her.

“Grandmother.  I want to call you Grandmother.”  Nell kicked in agreement, and Annie gave a wan smile, the first smile since reading the awful letter.

“You’ll do Annie Newman.”

ADULT EXCERPT

“Do you understand me?  Do you understand exactly what I need?  What I am asking?”

She did, and she would willingly give him anything to erase the agony she saw in his face.  “I freely offer you my body.”  The lines around his mouth eased a little, and then he frowned.

“Baby, tonight I need more.”

“Oh Seth,” Annie stroked his cheek, loving that she could finally touch him outside of those moments of release.  “Whatever you want, whatever you need, it’s yours.  I’m yours.”

“Put your hands over your head and hold your wrist in one hand.”  When she complied she understood why he would want the position, because it arched her back and raised her breasts.

He pulled her legs apart and made a place for himself, his jutting cock resting against her slick folds.  She pushed her knees against the mattress so her sex parted a little more bringing his hot flesh against her moist heat.  It was sublime.

“No.  You don’t move until I say tell you.”  She stopped, and looked into glittering black eyes.  He must have read her intention to thrust upwards.

He gently palmed both of her breasts and thumbed her nipples, back and forth scraping his calloused thumbs over her delicate nubs, causing her to whimper.  “It’s too much.”

“You can take more, baby.”  He rubbed harder and faster.  Her nipples had always been sensitive, and he knew it.  But it was as if he was taking her past the point of pain to a world of pure sensation.  Rivers of heat were flowing from her nipples to her clit and back up again, her juices flowed, she tried to push her hips up, but he pressed her body down into the bed without giving her the friction she needed.

“Seth,” she wailed quietly.  Even in her dreams she knew to be quiet.

He looked down at the hard red tips and stopped.  “Look at how pretty and swollen you are.”  He swooped down and sucked one pebbled nub into his mouth and she let out a low keen, grabbing the back of his head, pulling his long hair.  She didn’t remember his hair being so long.  When did he get long hair?  Why was she dreaming of Seth with long hair?

“Hands over your head.”  He lifted his hips and looked down at her with a wild look in his eyes.  Who was this man?  Never had Seth been so commanding, and why was she even more on fire for him?  She immediately obeyed him, and he rewarded her by grinding against her needy clit.

“Please, I’m begging you.”

“My way.”  He dipped his head back down, and sucked her other distended nipple into his mouth, tonguing it towards the roof of his mouth.  He kept the rocking motion of his hips against her core, until she was close to coming.

“Yes, oh God, yes Seth.”  And then he stopped.  Once again she grabbed his hair and yanked him back.  He reared back and roared.  “Annie, do as I say!”  She trembled at the power in his voice and immediately complied melting into the bed, her desire spiking even higher.

His arms wrapped around her, pulling her up against his hot chest, molding them into one person and his lips pressed against hers, his taste something long denied but never forgotten.  He plunged his tongue into her mouth, thrusting and stroking her ever upwards into a blazing need.  Then he ripped his head away, and started a path of kisses and nips along her jaw.  He licked at the pulse of her neck and bit down, and even more of her juices leaked onto his erection.  He was sliding easier and easier against the parted folds of her labia.

Continuing his path downwards, he lightly brushed her stinging nipples, but she still arched upwards into the beautifully painful caress.  He nipped at her concave tummy, and then swirled his tongue into her belly button.  He licked over her smoothly shaved mound.

“You’re still bare for me.”

“You liked for me to do that.  It makes me feel like one day we could be together.”

“My deepest wish is to be together again, but this is only a dream.”  Tears pricked her eyes.  She didn’t want honesty from her dream lover.  She wanted to revel in pleasure, in the need they had for one another.

“Don’t talk about the future or the past, I want to concentrate on the here and now.  I’ve needed you so much.”  Then what little breath she had he took from her, as his thumbs parted the petals of her sex, and his tongue traced the valley from her opening to her bud and then swirled around until she couldn’t talk, couldn’t move, couldn’t think.

How was it possible she felt every tiny detail of their lovemaking this time?  Every nuance was magnified, and then he slid his thick fingers into her hot tight core and they groaned as one person.  Ever so lightly he took her clit between his teeth and laved it with his tongue, pressing in and out with his fingers.

“So close.”

“No.  I’m in charge,” he said, lifting his head and looking at her through hooded eyes.  “You will hold on until I’m inside you.”  He bent back down, and continued to raise her up.  Her body shook with hunger, and she panted for air.

“P-P-Pl-Please stop.  I can’t hold on.”

He lifted up again.  “You can hold on.  You will do as I say.  You gave your word.”  He continued for long minutes, adding a third finger and twisting, layering sensation on top of sensation.

“Seth.”  The shivering wouldn’t stop.  So very close.  He pulled back at the very second when she would have gone over.  She watched as he licked every drop of her honey off his fingers, lingering and savoring.

“Annie, you were, are and always will be the best thing in my life.”  He seemed so real, she had to tell him about Nell, and then he was covering her.  Surging inside, and every thought splintered.  Her mind shattered with pleasure, she couldn’t hold back her cries of rapture, his name a benediction on her lips.  Then he was gone.

GENERAL EXCERPT

“Stop.”

Thiago continued.

Seth grabbed Thiago’s forearm in a punishing grip, seconds away from breaking it.

“Let go,” Thiago said, through gritted teeth.  “You forget yourself.”

“Until I say differently, she’s my property, or I leave now.”  Seth was truly scared.  Labado was a murdering sadist, and he might have pushed him too far, but he couldn’t ignore it for one more second.  Labado stared at him and slowly let go of the whimpering girl.  She dropped to the floor.  Labado cradled his arm and toed her with his shoe.

“Is she the one?”

“How would I know, I haven’t seen the others,” Seth said in a calm voice.

“Anton, bring in the next sample,” he called out.  Four more young women were brought in for Seth to view, all slightly older than the girl who remained silently crying on the floor at his feet.

After they all were standing in a row, Leslie turned to him.  “Well?”

“And the one in the picture?”

“She’s not as docile, and she has bruising.”

Seth gave her a toothy smile.  “So she has spirit and marks up well.  Too bad you didn’t bring her.”  He set down his drink and got up.

“She’s in the hall.  Bring her in Anton.”  He continued to stand.  This was it, his palms were damp, and a bead of sweat trickled down his neck.  The bastard was gripping Annie tightly by the scruff of her neck, forcing her into the room.  Her face was mostly hidden by her hair.  It was a trick he had seen her use many times to assess a situation without people being aware of what she was doing.  Then like a laser, she saw the girl lying on the ground and she yanked out of the man’s hold and was on her knees in front of Labado, cradling the girl’s head in her lap.

“Oh, I like a woman who knows her place,” Labado crooned.

Why didn’t I break the fucker’s arm?

“What did you do to her?” Annie demanded, her head turning to Labado, as Leslie watched Seth.  He looked at her, schooling his features, so he could survive the contempt he would see in his lover’s, his love’s face.  But while her face was hard and cold her eyes held nothing but joy.

“She is not your business.”

“I’m making her my business.”

“You’re in no position to negotiate.  You’re a captive.  All but naked on the floor.  Where is your leverage?”

“Apparently I’m a commodity of some value, or I wouldn’t be here.”  She tossed her hair and looked at Labado.  “I’m of value to him.  I have leverage.”  She helped the girl off the floor, murmuring softly to her.  God, she was magnificent.  He kept his face flat and raised an eyebrow at Labado.

“You seem taken.” Seth said stating the obvious.

“You don’t.  I thought spirit and easily marked were two of your criteria.”  Labado’s eyes followed Annie as she took the young girl to a sofa.  Anton followed her with an amused expression on his face.

“I find myself drawn to both of them.  They both have,” Seth paused, “certain qualities.”

“I am in complete agreement.  I will take whichever one you pass up.”

“But you told me the other day your current mistress was to your liking.”

“A man can always make room for two women.”  Labado licked his lips as he looked at the women/girls on the sofa.  Seth looked at the four other women in the room.  He wished a man could always make room for six.  God, they had to stop this tonight, but it wasn’t going to happen.  Could Kota and Nate somehow keep track of these four?

“I’m sorry.  I really can’t decide.  If you’re intent on taking one of these two, I’m going to have to go through with the divorce.”  Labado pulled his gaze away from the sofa and stared incredulously at Seth.

“You are talking crazy.  You have what you want.  You just said so.”

“But you are intent on taking what I truly desire.”  He watched as the sick bastard processed what he was saying.  Leslie laughed.

“Well aren’t you just full of surprises.  First you didn’t want any of the women I had to offer, and now you want two.  But I thought you liked spirit, and one seems like a bit of a victim.”

“I like the dichotomy.  But the point is moot.”  He looked at the sofa and couldn’t see Annie’s face, her hair hid everything.  He knew exactly what was going on in her mind, in her soul, because it mirrored his own heart.  He had to pull this off.

Excerpts

Derrick touched her shoulder, causing her to glance up at him. She was so close—so warm. He only needed to lean forward to close the distance. Her tongue darted out, licking her lips. He inched closer. Her breath whispered against his face as his mouth grazed over hers.

10850479_974339199260365_80869135_n

Derrick pulled her closer, wanting to feel as much of her as possible. Her hands wrapped around him as they wove their way into his jacket. Olivia trailed her fingers up and down his back. He threaded his own fingers in her thick hair, pulling her into his lap. A small moan escaped her lips and he deepened the kiss, taking control as he explored her mouth. He wasn’t exactly sure what they had, but he was determined to find out.

EXCERPTS

EXERPT ONE

I’m smiling so brightly that my cheeks hurt and I can’t help but feel emotional as he leans in to kiss me. His kiss is full of passion and a steady stream of tears flow from my eyes down my cheeks, because of how proud, honored and loved I feel. And that’s all coming from the man I love, the man kissing me, the man I want to be with for an eternity, and in this moment I know that nothing can tear us apart.

EXCERPT TWO

“Then fuck me, Colt,” I say and he groans into my mouth. His hands slide on to my arse and he pulls me from the desk. He takes me over to the bed and lays me down making his way over the top of me.
“I’m definitely going to fuck you, Lia, I’m seriously going to fuck your brains out. But first I’m going to make sweet normal love to the most beautiful girl in the world

About chasing Reese:

Everything in life is not permanent but it was perfect. Catalina Pardo had a career in journalism most people could only dream of, a hot, sexy fiancé to call her own and a brilliant future ahead of her. When tragedy struck, the life she once knew fell apart. Four years later, traumatized by the events that ultimately changed her existence, Catalina sets herself on a punishing work schedule, preventing herself from facing the demons of her grief-stricken past. Emotionally shut down, she’s alive but not living because everyone she ever loved leaves her.

Fate intervenes in Catalina’s life in the form of a last minute assignment to a snowy mountain lodge in Whistler, B.C. Sent there to cover the life of the infamous Jackson Reese; an Olympic Snowboarding Champion, she is faced with many challenges bringing to surface the raw emotions of her past. Compelled to work alongside Stryder Martynus, an award winning photographer brought in to document the Reese press tour, tensions and denial run high forcing Catalina to accept the past and face the present with zero regrets.

*Adult Contemporary Romance – Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not suitable for readers under the age of eighteen (18+).*

Excerpt One:

You don’t get to disrespect me like this. You don’t get to behave like a pompous child. I believed you were better than that,” I pause to catch my breath and gather my thoughts. Placing my hands on my hips I continue. I’m not fucking anyone here for a story. Oh, if Blake were here now…But if the thought that Jackson Reese is parading inside my panties makes your dull lives exciting, well eat it up you sick fucks.” I pointed out, as fat, silent tears stream down my cheeks.

Everyone looks onto me stunned. When I dropped Blake’s name, everyone was taken aback in memory of him. Watching me cry unsettles them, their discomfort etched across their faces. I’m not known to be emotional yet here I am, upset, crying over the stupid words of a jealous colleague.

I feel Stryder’s arms pull me closer to him, but I won’t have it. Shoving him aside, I try to run away, but my damn heels won’t let me. I kick them off and run down the long corridor, desperately holding the sobs that threaten my chest. Having my colleagues think I’m less than professional is very upsetting to me. I have forged this career with blood, sweat and tears. I never cut corners or slept my way to the top. The more I think about it, the harder I cry.

Excerpt Two:

Lifting her high heels, I explain the reason for my visit. I stopped by to return your torture devices you so recklessly abandoned.” Admiring the stilettos one last time, I place them in her hands.

Thank you,” Catalina replies appreciatively. Playing along, she puts them on, one foot at a time with such grace I swear it’s unfair. With a raised eyebrow and a wicked gleam she says playfully, you’re right, they’re torture.”

The way those words slipped from her tongue and rolled against her lips took all of my willpower away. My eyes connect with hers and like always, the energy between us becomes palpable, seemingly electric. Catalina regards me with lust filled eyes, the roundness of her cheeks flushed. She’s turned on alright.

Oh but what a sweet torture,” I admitted seductively, hoping she caught the double entendre behind my words.

Without thinking, I move towards Catalina with the force of a freight train. My hands grab her luscious waist and pull her flush against me. The sound she made when I took hold of her body made me harder than I was two minutes ago. Catalina quivers in my arms, an obvious confirmation that my actions are welcomed. Catalina’s head nestles sweetly against my chest. I’m sure she can hear those riotous heartbeats as much as I can feel hers pulsing against my abs.

Allowing one of my hands to roam the expanse of her back, I tuck my fingers underneath the hem of her t-shirt, tracing the small of her back, and another whimper escapes her lips. Raising that palm I tilt her chin upwards, beckoning Catalina to look at me. My voice, hoarse and fueled by desire commands her attention.

I’m going to do something I have wanted to do since the moment I first laid eyes on you.”

About Imy Santiago

I love to read stories about loss, heartache and redemption so it didn’t shock me when I ended up writing stories of my own revolving around those themes. I write with my heart, using my life experiences and emotions to dictate the tone and path in which my fictional characters embark. I believe in the power of friendship and to always have hope because life is always full of pleasant surprises. If you were to ask me if I consider myself an author, I would tell you no, I am not. I’m just a girl who loves to write a good story that makes you consider life choices and the darkness that envelopes a broken heart. My stories are about loss, friendship, hope and love.

I hope to continue writing more books in the not so distant future. It could be said that writing keeps me sane and brings a smile to my face. When I’m not writing Adult Contemporary Romance novels, I’m enjoying a quiet life with my family on Long Island New York.

Little Doll – Excerpt

“Please don’t let him come near me again,” I sobbed, sitting forward. I knew it sounded like I was pleading and I was at peace with that. Maybe he could be further swayed into helping me.

“If I had stayed, he would not have laid a finger on you to begin with and he knows it.” There was sincerity in his words as his eyes met mine. “Like I said, it won’t happen again.”

Aiden reached over to the basin and grabbed a washcloth. Submerging it into the bath, he wrung out the excess water and, cupping my chin, gently wiped the tears and mascara from my cheeks. I closed my eyes and allowed the heavenly warm water to caress my skin. I relished Aiden’s soft hands that made me want to melt into them and his breath sweet on my face. Perhaps the stark comparison between the touch of both men was playing tricks on my mind.

My eyes shot open to find him staring intently back, a faint frown marring his features. Our faces were no more than eight inches apart and an unfamiliar magnetic pull existed between us.

Aiden cleared his throat and pulled his eyes away from mine, a sense of discomfort settling between us.

“Has there been any news about my brother?” I asked, aiming to be more professional in this game of kidnapping while struggling to ignore the vibes between us.

Aiden’s head snapped to face mine, this time I knew the look of reproach was directed at me. I watched, feeling slightly reprimanded as he tossed the washcloth on the tub edge and turned to the towel rack to dry his hands.

“I have to go,” he said coldly, his tone a stark contrast from moments earlier. It felt like a slap in the face from a man I was beginning to place my trust in. It was a foolish notion.

I was the fool.

Synopsis

Now back across the border, LAILA realizes that all had not been as it seemed at the Florez mansion. Learning to trust the man she wanted dead was going to take time. Time was not on her side.
For AIDEN, the damage was done. There was no going back. Except for one thing… revenge.
Giving up was never an option for JUAN. Not even now when everything had changed. He lived and breathed the thrill of the chase and this time the end prize was too great to lose.
This is a dark story where the taste for love and revenge clash in the most unforgiving ways.

Crimson Desert – Excerpt

“We are only a few men against hundreds who are happy to see us all die, even though they have never met us. They have never even met Hector or Juan, yet they would do almost anything for them. It’s hard to compete against that. All things considered, we have done well to stay alive.”

Danny was right and I had only made it harder for Aiden to look out for me. “So what happens next?”

“What did Juan say to you when we were shooting at him?”

“That he would come back for me. That I belonged to him and that he would be watching everything I do.”

“Do you believe him?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Cos he has done well so far.”

Danny looked to window lost in contemplation. “We go after him.”

“What? That’s crazy.”

He looked back to me, not a hint of humor in his chocolate brown eyes. “Not crazy. It’s survival. We can’t keep running forever. The whole goal was to keep you safe and out of harm’s way, then go back for the kill.”

“Kill?” This had never been mentioned before.

“Aiden wants Juan’s blood and he will stop at nothing.”

Hard as Stone by Sarah O’Rourke — Non-erotic excerpt

Stepping between her spread legs, Jake held her squirming body still as he fought not to laugh at her theatrics.  “Calm down and settle,” he ordered against her temple, holding her firmly against him.

“I could have gotten on board with the pink carpet.  I might even have been able to wrap my mind around a puppy.  Maybe!” she railed, smacking his arm as she spat each sentence. “But dropping the bomb that you want me and my daughter to move in with you just takes the cake!”  Jerking her gaze to him as she heard a low chuckle escape his mouth, she shook her head furiously.  “Are you laughin’ at me?  Trust me, I don’t find any of this funny, Jake!”

“I’m not laughin’ at you, darlin’.  I’m just a little amused at our situation.  See, I thought I’d been real clear from the outset about what I wanted.  Are you honestly gonna tell me that this is a surprise, babe?” he asked, capturing her frantic eyes with his and holding them.  “Look me in the eye and tell me that you didn’t realize that I was in this for the long haul.  I told you weeks ago that I was staying in Paradise because of you, Harmony.  And in the last month, I’ve gotten as wrapped up in Heaven as I am in her momma.  Where the fuck did you think this was going?”

“I don’t know!” Harmony exploded in a burst of temper.  Seriously, this is not the conversation she’d seen happening tonight.  “Tonight, I’d hoped that it was leading to the bedroom, but I hadn’t thought too far beyond that.”  Really, she’d just finally worked up the courage to get intimate with a man again after years of celibacy, and now he wanted more

“Oh, the bedroom is definitely our destination for the evening, sweetheart,” he agreed with a slow, wicked grin.  “But a night stolen here and there isn’t gonna satisfy me, Harmony.  I’m a selfish bastard. I want everything you’ve got to give me.  Your beautiful body is only part of that.  Oh, it’s a gorgeous part, but I want the heart and mind, too. ”

“Jesus, Jake,” Harmony muttered weakly, her head falling against his shoulder as she sagged against him.  “It’s all or nothing with you, isn’t it?”

“Told ya, baby.  I’m a selfish bastard,” he whispered, wrapping his arms around her.  “The good news is that I’m your selfish bastard.  Yours and Heaven’s.  And I’ll do whatever I need to do to keep you both safe and protected and to make sure you never doubt that you’re both loved and wanted.”

“I don’t know anything about you,” she whispered into his neck as her heart did a tap dance in her chest.  What Zeke had said earlier in the day resonated in her brain.  None of them really knew anything about Jake.  She didn’t know if he’d ever been married or if he had any allergies or if he slept on the right or left side of the bed, for God’s sake.  How the hell could she even consider living with a man she knew next to nothing about?  How could that ever work between them?

He tilted his head for a second, then said, “No, I’ve never been married, I don’t have any allergies that I know about, and I sleep on whichever side is closest to the door.”

Closing her eyes, Harmony grimaced and burrowed her face against the space between his neck and shoulder.  His familiar woodsy scent mixed with sweat and man comforted her, relaxing a little of the tension that hand taken up residence in her back.   “I said all that out loud?” she asked in a tiny voice.

“You did,” he acknowledged against her ear.  “And to answer your last question, this thing will work between us because I refuse to accept otherwise.  We’ll find our way a day at a time, darlin’, but we will find it.”

Hard as Stone by Sarah O’Rourke – Erotic Excerpt

“Roll on your side, baby. I want to take this sweet pussy from behind tonight.”

“But I like feeling you on top of me,” Harmony said, her cheeks burning with embarrassment at her admission.

“Sweetheart, I love being inside you any way I can get in there, but if you’re on your side, I can give you my dick and my finger on that slick little love button of yours.  Trust me, darlin’, you’ll love it when I push that button,” he promised against her lips, nipping her chin with his teeth.

Harmony’s breath caught at the rough edge in his voice and she wasted no time doing as he bid, sighing when his warm lips dropped a kiss against the side of her neck to lick her delicious flesh.  She knew the reward that could be found in Jake’s arms if she took her cues from him, and he didn’t disappoint her when his hand dropped between her legs and two fingers explored her saturated folds.

“So wet, baby,” he growled his appreciation, swirling his finger over her swollen clit.  “I love that,” he encouraged against her ear when her legs spread and her hips bucked against his hand.  “Love how soaked and ready you are for me.  Let’s see if you’re luscious little body is ready to take my cock yet,” he muttered, twitching his finger against her nub again as he pierced her with two fingers and pulled a low cry from her lips.

Harmony moaned as his fingers impaled her, fucking deep.  “Oh, God, Jake,” she choked, rocking her hips back into his pelvis as his fingers withdrew only to sink in again a heartbeat later.

“Oh, yeah, all this sticky sweet honey says you’re more than ready for me, Sweetness,” he growled against her neck as he pulled his fingers from the tight heat of her pussy.  “You want my cock, darlin’?  You want me to fill you up and take away the ache?” he asked, his words vibrating against her skin as one hand curled around her breast and squeezed the firm globe gently.

“Yes,” she whimpered, pushing her head back against his throat as his fingers stroked through her swollen folds again and teased her clit.  “Do it, Jake,” she begged, wriggling her ass against his hardness.  His cock rimmed her entrance, offering her just a taste of heaven, but never truly delivering on the promise.

He sucked the vulnerable flesh at her neck; she felt his teeth scrape the shell of her ear.  “Tell me first, Harmony.  Who do you belong to?” he asked her, plucking her nipple with his thumb and forefinger before tugging it gently and sending a white hot pulse of pleasure from her stomach to her pussy.  “Who does this gorgeous body belong to?”

“You,” she managed in a voice strangled by pleasure.  Plying her nipple with one hand and her clit with the other, she felt like she was one long exposed nerve ending.  “Stop teasing, Jake, and fuck me.”  She panted roughly as she wriggled against his onslaught.

Meet Cain & Jake 2b

Author Interview

1.  How long have you been writing?  We’ve been writing together for a little over 5 years now.  Each of us was writing separately before that, and we met in a writing group!  From there, we became best friends very quickly, and started editing each other’s work.  Then we just seemed to glide into writing together!  Somehow, it works for us!

2.  Where did you get the idea for your series?  The Passion in Paradise series grew from our joint like of small town life.  We both grew up in small towns that closely resemble Paradise, TN, and we love to write about characters that we know!   Being from the South, we have a strong affinity for family-type scenarios with strong women and take-charge men.  And we also know that in a small town, EVERYONE knows everyone else’s business…and that’s a lot of fun to write!!

3.    Is there a story behind the choosing of the characters names? The bulk of them have biblical names. Faith, Heaven, the twins Cain and Abel, etc…  Well, since we were both raised in Sunday School, it can be said that these names were ingrained into us at an early age…although we’re fairly certain the Almighty or Sister Beulah wouldn’t necessarily approve of everything we put in this series!  It’s not uncommon for people in small towns in East TN or the South to have Biblical names.  You have no idea how many kids we went to school with that were named Matthew, Mark, Luke or John…and some of them had double-names, such as John Mark or Matthew Thomas or James Jeremiah. Sometimes they were diminutives, too – such as Big Matt (Daddy) and Little Matt (son).  This was just part of life in a small, Southern town!

4.  Do you have a favorite character in your novels?  Crazy One is partial to Zeke….Crazy Two loves Patience…and Abel!

5.  How many books do you plan to write in theParadise series?  There will be at least six books – one for each of the sisters, then 2 more for other couples in the town…and we have ideas for at least a full dozen!!  So…who knows?

6.  Can you give us a sneak peek of book #3 and when it will be released?  Book 3 is Ready, Willing, and Abel — and tells the story of Patience McKinnon and Abel Turner…and what happens when night of passion goes completely off the rails!  Teaser below:

“Thank God I’m not a man lacking self-confidence, Hellion.  Otherwise, you’d be hell on my ego,” Abel groaned, burying his face in the crook of her neck while one arm contracted around her waist, holding her tightly.

“Oh, no.  Your self-confidence is unmatched,” Patience muttered, still squirming between his hard body and the wall.  “It’s your self-control that needs work.”  Lifting her eyes to Abel’s she narrowed her eyes to slits.  “You’re not getting this, Abel, and you really need to get me here.  Since all the blood in your body seems to have gotten diverted to your dick, I’m gonna speak real slow and in terms that even Dr. Seuss could understand, okay?”

Waiting for a second, she watched one perfectly shaped eyebrow lift on his handsome face in silent askance before she continued.  “I will not fuck you in the hall.  I will not fuck you against this wall.  You should really be a better learner.  I will NOT fuck you, Abel Turner.”

Author Bio

Sarah O’Rourke is the alter ego of two best friends who bonded over their passion for romantic fiction and erotica. Born and raised in the southern United States, one lives near Louisville, Kentucky, while the other resides in Atlanta, Georgia.  Formerly an accountant and a chemist, they are now overworked, stay-at-home moms who adore their children, their husbands…and writing about love in every way possible.

Currently focusing on their Passion in Paradise series, they love to write wildly intense romantica stories that have multiple characters, but each book focuses on one specific couple that will ALWAYS have a happy ending…eventually!  The Passion in Paradise series follows the lives of four sisters, who love and infuriate each other – and the men who love them!  Each book is a stand-alone and does NOT require the reader to have read the prior books.

One Happy Blogger!!!

Well Readers, this gal is one happy blogger about now. I am so excited to have the two authors that make up ~ Sarah O’Rourke will be the Spotlight Author(s) today!!!!

I was contacted by the author to read and review both novels here. Currently  I have read Cain’s Salvation. To be honest I was not sure about it at first for I am not much of a military romance reader. Though after I got a few chapters in I was HOOKED!!! As soon as I finished book 1 I was ready to read book 2, Hard as Stone.  Both novels start out with the Heroes POV. Then it flips back and forth between the Hero and the Heroine. Book 1 is a shorter read at just a little over 20 chapters. Book 2 has over 30 chapters. At this time I am on Chapter 12. I had to have my tissues handy for chapters 10 & 11. So I am going to go back to reading now!

Happy Reading, and drop by the Facebook Blog @

While trying to prove himself, he is involved in an accident that draws a human into the line of fire. Unwilling to see an innocent hurt by the enemy wolves after him and his pack, he vows to protect her. Nora is kind, caring, and strong. Excerpt 1

Nora covered her mouth as she yawned. Her eyes focused on the road as she reached down, lifting her coke to her lips. Nora took a long swig before returning it to the cup holder.

The blue-green illumination of the dashboard clock read 12:03 AM. It was late, and she’d been driving for hours, but she would not stop until she reached her destination.

With a trembling hand, she picked up her cell phone and listened to her best friend’s voicemails again. She’d been stuck at work when April had called earlier, and had only just gotten the frantic message when she’d gotten off.

3:56pm

Hey, Nora, it’s April. I just wanted to let you know that I made it home okay. I know this is going to sound weird, but I need you to stay away from the apartment for a few days. I will wire you some money for a hotel. It’d be even better if you found one far away from home. I promise I will try to explain everything soon, but I can’t right now. Just please trust me when I tell you not to go home. I hope you get this soon. Call me when you do. I’ll, uh; I’ll talk to you later, okay? Be safe.

4:15 pm

Hey, it’s me again. Um, listen, my families in trouble, Nora. I think you could be too. I’m going to text you my address. I need you to head down here as soon as you can. Please call me as soon as possible.

The phone clicked, and Nora smashed her finger over the buttons, setting the phone back on top of her purse. Her hands shook as she gripped the steering wheel. Her eyes stared out the window into the pitch-black night. She’d received that ominous message around five hours ago, shortly after she’d left work. She still hadn’t been able to reach her best friend. Every call went straight to voicemail. Terrified, she’d hopped in her car and started the long drive to Louisiana.

Stifling another yawn, Nora glanced over at her GPS. If it were correct, she should reach April’s home within the next fifteen minutes. Once there, she could check on her friend, and find out what the hell was going on.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a blur of yellow making a beeline for the street. She slammed on the breaks, causing the tires to squeal. A man dashed into the road, and she screamed as a loud crunch echoed through the car.

The man’s body rolled up onto her hood, colliding with the windshield. The glass cracked, and tiny spider webs erupted across the window. His body tumbled backwards.

Nora held the steering wheel as a vice, watching in horror as he hit the pavement with an unforgiving thump. He rolled and attempted to stand, but quickly fell back to the black top. She held her breath, waiting for him to get up, but he didn’t. Her heart dropped and she took a shaky breath in.

Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!

Pulse thrumming in her ears, she pushed her door open, unbuckled her seatbelt, and climbed out. Her eyes stayed transfixed on the deathly still person. Nausea churned in her stomach, and she gagged seeing the awkward angle of his arm. Her knees wobbled as she forced her feet forward.

“Please be okay. Please don’t be dead,” she mumbled as she approached him.

Blood oozed into his brown hair, streaking the cocoa strands with red. His chest rose and fell in shallow, uneven breaths. The man coughed, groaning as he rolled. He placed a quivering hand on the road as he attempted to sit up again.

“Thank god you’re not dead! Are you okay? I’m not sure you should be moving,” Nora babbled as she held her hands out, unsure if she should touch him or not.

He twisted, his emerald-green eyes connecting with hers. Red dribbled out of his nose, pooling on his lips. His intense gaze gave her pause and she felt her breath catch as she got lost in his beautiful irises.

“Who are you?” he coughed, struggling to his feet.

Nora blinked, snapping out of her trance. “I’m so sorry. Are you okay? I need to call the police. You need to get to the hospital,” she rambled. Heat crept over her cheeks at her own stupidity. She’d hit a man! He needed medical help. How was he even standing? Why hadn’t she brought her phone out of the car with her?

“No!” he yelled, clamping his good hand around her wrist.

Nora jumped at his outburst. Her eyes widened, and pulse kicked up a notch.

“No,” he said quieter. “I…I don’t have insurance. Please, just help me get out of here. Give me a ride to a motel or something.” He stared at her for a long moment. “What’s your name?”

Nora looked down at his fingers that still encircled her wrist. Tiny nicks marred his skin. As she continued to assess him, she saw a large gash along his cheekbone, and blood covered his yellow shirt and dark wash jeans. His left shoulder and arm were mangled, but she couldn’t tell if it was broken or dislocated.

Realizing he was still waiting for an answer to his question, she said, “Nora, Nora Jamison.”

“I’m Daniel McKinley. I think we should get out of here, Nora.” His eyes scanned the tree line to her right and she followed his gaze.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” she asked. “I can call an ambulance—”

“No. Come on,” he interrupted, hobbling forward and pulling her along with him. His fingers were warm on her wrist and a tiny tremor of heat crept through her.

Nora allowed him to lead her as he stumbled to the passenger door and jerked it open. Yelling erupted from the trees, sending cold chills down her spine. Swallowing, she surveyed the brush. Her breath caught in her throat as three men emerged from the tree line, followed by a large grey wolf. How is that even possible, she wondered, eyes transfixed on the large creature.

Nora flinched as the wolf howled and the three men bounded toward them. She took a few steps back, her feet faltering as her butt met her car. Pushing off the steel, she whirled around and sprinted to the driver’s side door. A loud crackle rippled through the air, followed by a groan. Daniel slumped to the ground as his body contorted.

Horrified, Nora watched through the open passenger door as his yellow shirt tore free from his body. Reddish-brown hair erupted onto his back. He positioned himself on his hands and knees, seconds before his back jolted upwards. Another snap sounded, followed by a howl as he sprung forward.

Nora clamped a hand over her mouth as she watched the man become a wolf. She closed her eyes, and opened them again, still not believing. Yet, the wolf remained where the man had been. He lunged at the other wolf catching him mid-air, and driving him to the ground.

Excerpts:

I squeaked open the door to the adjacent
bedroom and was met with an empty twin bed. A rumpled white sheet draped the bed, no comforter. Pivoting around, I did a quick scan of the gray carpet, found nothing overly suspicious or weird, so moved onto the closet.

By that time, Vinnie nipped at my heels. “I’m getting a funny feeling, Dolce. We need to roll.”

My thoughts exactly. But when I opened the walk-in closet and stepped inside, no way in the world would I ever have been prepared for what I’d find. There’s an idiom about skeletons in your closet. Trouble was, the skeleton I’d discovered still had meat on it.

“Vinnie,” I whispered, “there’s a skeleton in the closet.”

Vinnie munched on his moon pie behind me; I heard the crinkle of the wrapper. “Ha-ha, Dolce. Is this some metaphorical test I’m supposed to decipher?”

“No, like a real skeleton that I think is a man.”

Vinnie took one step inside and dropped the f-bomb. Then added mommy-effer.

“Do you smell that?” I asked.

Vinnie’s inhale was audible. “Yeah, smells like O-positive to me.” Loosely rolled in a faded navy comforter were the remains of a man. He lay facedown with a small patch of flesh and short black hair still clinging to his head. This wasn’t the only dead body I’d encountered, and neither was the body of a man I’d found in a dumpster last spring. I, eh, well…I found a head…buried in the sand on vacation in Orlando. I had a habit of stumbling upon dead bodies and/or body parts. Something the majority of people could go a lifetime and not have happen once, I’d experienced one too many times to count. The smell wasn’t as bad as bodies that’d recently expired, but it smelled like death, nonetheless. Death has a peculiar smell you never forget. Covering my nose with my hand, I lifted the tip of my boot and kicked the blanket back, starting at the naked feet. Black boxers framed femurs that barely had any flesh left, and a plain white t-shirt adorned the crumpled torso. A vintage concert t-shirt from The Minstrel Cramps, a local all-girl band popular back in the day, lay beside the corpse’s head. A memory played in the back of my mind I immediately tried to erase.

A memory that’d haunted me since I was nine years old.

1811695wio5oh31xf

I had a decision to make. I could call the police, or I could dive onto the car. Without another thought, I dove spread eagle onto the hood, a whole lot of don’t-die-a-virgin giving me flight.

Teaser7

1811695wio5oh31xf

Inhaling deeply, I found my calm, realizing Vinnie and I needed to leave ASAP and phone the authorities. Those plans hit an iceberg because once I joined Vinnie in the front room, I heard a Pfffft. Then another. I was a little slow on the uptake but soon realized the Pfffft was the sound of something striking the couch. Yellowed batting exploded out of a bullet hole in a puff of white smoke.

Call me a genius, but I didn’t consider this good.

“Down!” Vinnie roared, launching himself toward me.

Unfortunately, my legs went moron and glued to the floor. For a moment, I had a flashback of running from a shooter last spring. They say lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place…evidently, it does. My legs felt like rubber, and the room went to a dizzying whirl. Tears welled in my eyes, but I commanded them to dry up. You couldn’t think rationally when you cried. Emotions ruled. I didn’t make the rule; someone else did. Problem was, my tear ducts didn’t comply. I boo-hoo’d like a little girl.

Vinnie heaved us both off the floor, pitching me his keys I caught in one hand. “Oh, God, Vinnie,” I breathed, adrenaline nearly slicing me in two. This was like a Scarface  shootout, only we didn’t have a gun.

Vinnie’s eyes glowed black and angry, but he took time to tenderly touch my cheek in an order. “Snap out of it, Dolce. Go. Out the back. I’ll follow.”

     I still couldn’t move.

When Vinnie whipped off his jacket to do God-knew-what, voices boomed outside as three more gunshots landed on the hardwood floor. The wood splintered into pieces, sawdust pooling like an ant mound. When a sixth shot hit near my feet, I lost my balance and cartwheeled across the floor, landing on my knees. Vinnie snatched me up and shoved me in front of him, clutching my back to his front, acting as a human shield. Praying vehemently he didn’t get struck in

the mayhem of gunfire, I still was worthless while he kicked out the window and tossed me onto the ground. I landed on all fours, my hands hitting the gravelly dirt of a backyard in need of upkeep. My tights split at the knees, and the air left my body on a hiss. I crawled in an uncoordinated manner like a baby intent on learning a new method of transportation. My eyes blinded with tears, and when I made it around the air conditioning unit, my hands hit something thick and mucousy. Pulling my shaking hand to my eyes, I recognized the red, viscous fluid immediately…blood. Blood that’d partly dried and led me to the body of…oh, God help me… help me.

She’s forced to attend the Culling with little hope for her future, but what she discovers about herself is far worse than she could’ve imagined. And far more dangerous.

Thrown into training and separated from her friends, Faye must learn to adjust. She struggles to find her place within the Coven, and with Jaxen Gramm, the darkly handsome and extremely unnerving man assigned to watch and protect her. Emotions run high, and when she discovers a deadly secret about him, her struggles deepen. As corruption within the Coven begins to unravel, Faye pieces together her role in saving the future of her people, and within Jaxen’s life…but will the truth save her, or be her undoing?

From Chapter 3

“This way,” Nathaniel says from the side of the stage. We’re like cows being herded into individual pens to await sacrifice. There are closed-in cubicles constructed backstage, and each of us is placed in one without a word of guidance or encouragement.

“Wait a second,” I say as I try to scan down the row one last time for Katie, but I’m shoved into my cubicle and the door shuts, enclosing me in between four confining walls with only the light of a lamp. I drag my hands down the fabric of the walls until I fall down into my seat. I tug on my braid again and again and again. Calm down. Breathe. Calm down. I chant this over and over again, imagining that Katie’s the one who’s coaching me. I shut my eyes and am back in her room. The scent of her perfume overwhelms the small space, but instead of making me sneeze, it comforts me. It makes my imagined state more real.

I hear loud clapping coming from off the stage and know someone must’ve just gone. They obviously weren’t a Defect. No one wants a Defect at their ceremony. A voice shouts, “Let’s go, Todd Jenson. It’s time to meet your partner.” I wonder if it was Katie on stage. I wonder if he’s her partner. I wonder this through eighteen more times worth of clapping and cheering and name calling. Anytime now, they’ll open my door and force me to stand before the crowd, force me to touch the quartz, force me to face my peers in shame. If they deem me a Defect, I’ll be the first this Culling, and most likely the only.

I twist my hands into knots and think about my parents. They have to be out there by now. I’m going to walk out there and they’re going to be in the front row smiling. I open my eyes. Four walls. They’re closing in on me. They’re suffocating me. I have to get out.

“Faye Middleton?” The door opens and air rushes in. I draw sharply on it as the cheering continues. Another novice and her new partner walk off stage. It’s the girl with black hair. She’s coyly looking at him from under her lashes. He looks pissed.

Nathaniel guides me forward, and I want to yank my arm from him. I want to tell him I left my courage back in that cubicle, but I don’t. I can’t. My lips are glued shut by fear. My knees have turned into two extremities of doubt, and I know I’m going to fall. I’m going to forget how to speak.

Steel blue eyes find mine from across the stage. Elder Maddock. He bows ever so slightly in my direction, his eyes seeking past my outer appearance. I wonder if he knows who I am. He has to. I stop right before him and feel like a bird trapped in a cage. I can’t escape the thousands of eyes studying me. I can’t escape the hundreds of assumptions building me into something I’m not.

“Faye Middleton,” he says, his voice eager and curious. There’s a friendly lightness in his voice I don’t expect, a sound that makes me feel safe and comfortable under his gaze. He has thick, golden brown hair combed neatly over to the side and back, showing off the squared planes of his face. He looks much younger than he should, but older than my father. “Are you ready to begin?”

I turn to the crowd and scan desperately for my parents. Eyes. There are so many eyes. Too many. They form together, creating an awful monster that wants to swallow me whole. I can’t find them. The eyes have hidden them from me. I’m all alone. I try to swallow, but my mouth is so dry. I bite the inside of my cheek, curbing the need to release tears.

The Witch standing next to him says, “Faye, he asked you a question.”

I take in a tight breath and force myself to look away and back at Maddock. “I’m sorry,” I whisper, my stomach twisting a little tighter.

He pretends not to notice the panic I’m sure my face is masked in and offers me the kindest, most patient smile. “Everyone is nervous on the day of the Culling,” he says knowingly. “I was a wreck the day of mine.”

Polite laughter comes from the audience, and I feel myself relax just enough so that I can breathe again.

He offers me a small wink…a knowing sort of wink, and says, “Your parents will be proud.” He says these words carefully, evenly, and I know he’s trying to tell me something. They’re okay? He’s aware of who I am. “So are you ready to begin?”

Everlasting Teasers

From Chapter 10

“Come here,” he says, his tone low, husky. My heart flaps harder, wilder. He’s looking straight into the mirror. I want to be that mirror looking back at him, drowning in his eyes and words of want. His back is a mountain of lean, cut muscles. His fists are pressed against the counter, held tight and firm. Thick veins stick out from under his skin, just waiting for my fingers to trail over.

I find myself just a step away from him, my heart hammering against my chest. I don’t know why. He’s helping me, nothing more, so why do I feel so lightheaded and flushed inside? Why does my skin crave for his touch, a touch that’s sure to come, even if full of innocence?

He moves just enough to fit me in between him and the counter. I swallow down my nerves and stand in front of him, resting a hand against the marbled countertop to help stabilize me. I try not to notice the tension in his body, the way his eyes close when my leg brushes against his, the way he licks his lips when our faces come just a breath’s length away from each other.

His eyes open, and he holds me with his gaze. He allows me to see past his titanium wall. In front of him, gazing into his endless, green eyes, I know I could fall at any moment, physically and emotionally, and this scares the hell out of me. I barely know him, yet, I feel like I’ve known him forever.

He reaches behind me and turns the hot water on. He’s so close, so unbelievably close, my fingers almost slip out from under me. There’s no steadying my heart, no taming my breathing as he waits for the

water to heat before wetting the towel. He lifts his other hand, and it hovers next to my waist like he’s waiting for something; a sign, an approval. I close my eyes, breathe in, and then his hand drifts down my waist where it comes to rest on top of my hip.

My breathing stops, along with my heart. My muscles clench with want. I curse the material between my skin and his hand. I want to give in to whatever delirium has taken over my rational thinking.

He gently pushes me back against the counter. The back of my legs bump against it, stopping me as he closes the distance between us. The way his body ever so slightly presses against mine ignites a flame inside of me, burning and aching for more of his touch. His hand lifts, slightly shaking, and then brushes the hair from my face until it comes to rest at the base of my neck. He’s a pyromancer, controlling and building the fire within me. The firmness of his grip sends heat to places I’ve never felt heat before.

His eyes lock on mine. His other hand lifts, bringing the towel just to the edge of my lip where the cut is. I wince when he presses it against my mouth and squeeze my eyes shut. Shut the pain off, I tell myself. I had during the fight without even trying. I open my eyes again and focus on the color of his, the deep evergreen color that displays wisdom. He’s looking down at my mouth, still wiping away blood. His eyes brush mine again, and then move to the cut on the side of my eyebrow.

My heart feels like it could drift away at any moment with all the fluttering. There’s such a gentleness about him, a kindness that has yet to be shown, and yet, here he is, showing it to me, to someone who had brought this upon herself.
