Synopsis

After 12 years, 4 months and 1 and 1/2 weeks of marriage, his wife packs up and leaves with their daughter. So he writes an Indie novel. And it becomes a bestseller. Well, sort of.

His fame brings him the lifestyle of a rockstar, and he has the fan mail (i.e. female undergarments, probably clean) to prove it.

But seeing his fame, his wife suddenly believes in marriage counseling. Their homework: to create something beautiful for each other.

So he writes Our Story, his literary secret-weapon that will win his wife back. But in the process he discovers that true love is more than just ticking the right boxes on a checklist. It starts with… well… }i{ .

Excerpt 1

“I lied to you,” I told her. “About how all I ever wanted was to be loved.”

“Why?” Emma asked, her eyes tightening at the sting of my admission.

“Because the truth is that all I ever wanted was…”

“Tell me!”

“All I ever wanted was to be loved by [YOU].”

She rolled her eyes and turned away, as if trying to hide her grin from me. I knew she couldn’t block me from her heart forever, and her reaction proved it.

“So, can we [make love] now?” I asked, and that was when she punched me.

“Not a chance, dork.”

Excerpt 2

I headed upstairs with Emma on my heels. She commented on the family photos on the stairway wall, the color of the second floor landing, the carpet’s thick under-padding, the layout, how clean my house was (yes, I spent all day yesterday tidying up and figuring out how to turn the vacuum cleaner on). I chalked up her chatter to nervousness.

“Here’s Evelyn’s room.” I pushed the door open and waved her inside.

“I can’t sleep in that,” she said, pointing to the Barbie-racecar toddler bed.

I shrugged. “Then I guess you’ll have to cuddle up next to me in mine.”

Excerpt 3

“I’m not [sleeping with] you,” she told me.

I didn’t believe the words because her eyes told a different story; sure they were closed, but that didn’t mean anything. I placed her gently on the bed, made sure her head was cozy on the pillow, then told her I’d be right back.

“Don’t leave me,” she slurred. She spoke slowly, the alcohol running thick through her veins by now.

So I cozied up on the bed beside her.

“Hold my hand, Morgan.”

I slid my fingers between hers (they fit perfectly), watching her while the alcohol slowly robbed what was arguably my best and only chance at getting laid before flying back home tomorrow.

4 roses for originality and a bit of romance

What a great little read, I gobbled it up in one sitting. The characters were real, their conversations witty, humorous, catty, and sarcastic. In the end it left me wanting a “Morgan” of my very own.

Morgan is a man going through the motions of being an average corporate accountant making ends meat in a loveless marriage. In a blink of an eye, he loses everything, his wife, his child, his habit and his routine.  It wakes him up to what his life has become, what he has become.

Morgan is newly divorced and more than a little lonely.   He proceeds to get “tech-savvy”, and gains insight into the social media world.  He needs female companionship and most definitely some form of human contact.  He buys an iPhone hoping to experience such a relationship by text messaging.

“The last time I’d been single, folks didn’t send text messages – not unless they had a label maker.  And even then, it never got you laid.  Not like text messages today.”

Morgan picks up a recommended book in this particular field, reads it and immediately knows it‘s bogus.  It does not work.  The only thing he got out of it was that any idiot can write a bookSo he does, he writes a novel based entirely on text messaging.  Sextual Encounters went viral and with the help of Social Media today, his story was deemed ‘Brilliant, Amazing, and Unique’, a “Brilliant Love Story.”  Within a month it hit the Top 100 list of Amazon’s Romance Bestsellers.

3 hearts for couples seeking love

This is how Morgan meets his biggest fan, Emma.  She sends him a fan-based package and Morgan feels an instant connection, or at least his body does.  She was exactly the kind of burn he wanted to feel and the perfect distraction he needed.  Included is a message that feels like fate for it was written by an authentic label maker.

Dear Morgan.  My name is Emma.  I am not looking for a relationship, but I think we should write a book together.  I am in the process of getting published and I think we can make beautiful literature together.  ~Emma

}i{ is their secret code for when they want to get their sexting on privately for Emma is in a loveless marriage herself.  Still they feel a connection even though its clear Morgan is trying to piece his family back together.  He starts another novel, Our Story, a romantic novel about the everlasting love of Oliver and Olivia, even as Emma and Morgan become closer and closer.

I’m good with numbers, not so much with words.  You’re not my words, Emma… But you’re my numbers.  You’re all of my numbers… You’re my infinity.”

2 teardrops for drama & emotional turmoil

In the end, I think Morgan and Emma truly fell for one another, however there are certain things in our lives that need to have some sort of closure in order to start over or start anew.  Morgan is struggling to find happiness and forgiveness, he tries to fill an empty void through writing, fame, and an exciting new romance.  Emma is still uncertain about the direction of her own failing marriage and trying to raise her own family.

“I loved you for everything.  Your successes and intelligence as well as your failures.  I loved you just like you said you loved me, but I loved you more.  I wrote a novel about you – Oliver, Olivia, it’s all you, one hundred percent you.”

“Morgan, I love you.  No matter what happens, I will always love you… And because of this love, I will always be waiting for you.  I’ll be there, always waiting, always for you.”

So, does Morgan make it as an exciting Best Seller Author?  Does he find his True Love? Does he get his HEA, or does he find he must choose his own path and make his own healing memories.

Thanks Morgan Parker for a very real story about Love, Hate, Divorce, and Life ever after.

Synopsis

Shane Dekkar is an undefeated, gorgeous, and somewhat shy boxer from Compton
California. In the ring, he’s a beast, out of the ring, he’s loving, caring, and
intriguing. After the death of his grandfather, he moves to Austin and meets
Kace by happenstance as she and her boyfriend are in an argument in public. He
is drawn to her, and she to him. Her boyfriend drives away as she mouths the
words “help me” through the window…

When they meet again two years
later, Shane begins to believe in fate. But, as he prepares for a potential shot
at a championship fight, he believes there’s no time in his life or career or a woman.

Kace Meadows lives in Austin, Texas. Now 26, she has been in an
abusive relationship since she was sixteen years old. As terrible as it is, she
can’t seem to find a way to allow herself to end it. With her current boyfriend,
she can’t seem to win. She finds hope in reading about her book
boyfriends….and dreaming.

Until she meets Shane Dekkar, a boxer. Holy
mother of perfection…

Shane fights his inner demons by using his
fists. On the street or in the ring, Shane does what he does best, he wins at
any cost. Unlike Kace, Shane can’t seem to lose.

Undefeated is an
extremely romantic erotica novel about fighting. Fighting for what you believe
in. Fighting for life. Fighting to live. And fighting to keep love once you find
it.

Be prepared to be moved, touched, stand up and cheer, and
cry your eyes out. This book will, without a doubt, knock you unconscious. This
novel clearly defines the love that we all seem to want, yet can’t find. This is
not your typical boxing/fighter romance. This book will give you hope, make you
feel, and cause you to wonder….wonder why you haven’t met your Shane Dekkar.

Author Scott Hildreth’s Inspiration for Writing Undefeated

My inspiration to write Undefeated, and the hope that it may inspire someone to get out of an abusive relationship, came from the events described below. The events below are true. The events in the book are not. The book is one hundred percent fiction.

One weekend, I had a girl get in touch with me that I had never met. She had received my telephone number from a friend of a friend. Frantic, she attempted to speak to me initially, but each time she tried, she was overcome with emotion.

This emotion filled silence continued for almost an hour, and then we then actually began to communicate, albeit slowly, and one-sided. I learned through the conversation (that lasted almost eight hours) that she was bound by her husband, and gang raped by his friends. This happened for a few days. Against, if I even need to state this, her will. She was in and out of consciousness for two days. Eventually, she was released. In shock and extremely poor health, she contacted me from a remote hotel room.

I struggled with this event, and how to handle it. I struggled with this more than I have struggled with almost anything in my life. Vengeance. At what point does one administer justice to someone that the courts will undoubtedly not punish properly? The punishment for this particular crime, regardless of what was imposed by the court, would not be sufficient for the crime committed.

I chose at the time to speak to another close female friend about the event, and get her opinion.

Although I could not speak to my friend about the person, the events, or the intimacies of the above mentioned conversation, we spoke for some time in general about God, about law and about the difference between what is right and what is wrong. I shared with her my thoughts of feeling a need to resolve this issue with the caller’s husband on my own. When the smoke cleared, I sat in a coffee shop and thought. I made a decision. “Put up again thy sword into his place; for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.”  I decided, for once in my life, that it was not my responsibility to resolve this issue. I contacted the authorities, called in a few favors from some friends in law enforcement, and the issue was dealt with in a manner in accordance with law.

My female friend, as always, proved extremely useful in her ability to convey her understanding of the message of God in a manner that I could listen to and accept. I have always struggled with attempting to do what is right (in my mind), and hoped that it was what was right in God’s eyes. I do not know that these things always were in line with one another.

Until now.

And now, a year later, the person from the incident above?

She is well. As well as she can be, considering all things. She is fortunate.

I struggle – still today – with thoughts of vengeance.

My struggle brought me to this.

I hope you enjoy.

Excerpt

Shane

If I am attempting it, and I do not succeed, you can believe that I gave it my best effort, regardless of the outcome. I choose to do very little, and be exceptional at what it is I decide to do. I would much rather be perceived as being great at a few things than be a failure at many. I have always been honest with myself and conscious of who I am, but that doesn’t always help me understand why I am the way I am.

On the outside, I am always kind, polite, and considerate of others. On the inside, demons reside. I don’t know why or what fuels the demons inside of me, but I am very aware of their existence. My consciousness of their need, necessity, and deep desire to be fed is what has caused me to choose boxing as my main outlet. I keep the demons fed, and they allow me to live an otherwise peaceful life. Fulfilling their hunger allows my desire to live a tranquil life to be met. As long as I continue to fight, they’re fed. When they are fed, I am allowed. Allowed to live.

Author Interview with Scott Hildreth

Q:  Where were you born and where do you call home?

A:  I was born in San Diego, California, and I live in Wichita, Kansas. I consider Wichita to be home. There’s something about being here that is comforting and easy to come back to, regardless of where I may visit.

Q: Are you truly a starving artist?  Or do you actually have a day job?  What is it?

A:  My day job is writing. My night job is writing. My only job is writing. It’s all I’ve got, and it’s all I do.

Q:  What gives you inspiration to write?

A:  My inspiration to write is whatever it is that lives inside of me and allows me to develop characters, stories, and find the voice to write. It’s difficult to explain. I have an ability to allow fictional characters take me over and express themselves through my fingertips and onto paper. My inspiration….It’s not necessarily the story, or the underlying message that inspires me, although I may be inspired by it. It’s the telling. Making it come together. Turning a character or group of characters into a novel that makes sense to people – that alone inspires me. So, as I say, in summary – my inspiration is in knowing that I will finish it, and it’ll make sense to my intended audience.

Q:  What was the hardest book thus far for you to write and why?

A:  My most difficult book to date, without a doubt, Dying to Survive. That book has made a mess of me. I think the primary reason is the fact that there are six characters in the book, and they are all in some way mentally ‘off’. The book is a very troubling look at what we may consider when exposed to decisions about death, survival, coping with child abuse, rape, murder, abduction, captivity, greed, and repressed memories. It’s a tough book to write and maintain a level of separation from the characters. I become so close to the characters when I write that it makes it difficult to completely separate myself. Writing this wadded me up in an emotional ball for a month.

Q:  Do you have plans for a new book?  If so, what is it about?

A:  I always have plans for a new book. My newest book coming out will be the second in the Undefeated series, Unstoppable. Although they are all stand-alone books, the Mike Ripton book is coming up next. It’s sure to satisfy the alpha-male junkies. Let’s just agree that Mike Ripton makes Erik Ead look like a softie when it comes to sex. After that, Teddy and Heather from the Baby Girl series. Then, by mid to late March, a twisted dark tale about women, men, and what makes us cringe when we’re alone.

Q:  Your thoughts on receiving book reviews – the good and the bad…

A:  Book reviews have the ability to help potential readers make a better educated guess on whether or not they may be interested in reading a particular book. Additionally, if presented properly, they allow the author to consider what was written into the review, and allow him/her to decide if the criticism is warranted, and if there can be adjustments made in the future to prevent having the same issues with later writings. I love good reviews, but my worst ratings have brought me some of my most useful reviews.

Q:  If you gave one of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?

A:  Kelsey Theodore Wilson. “People are always sayin’ Get a life. I hate that saying. I think we should change it to, Get busy livin’. I like that better. We all got a life, we just need to get busy livin’ the one we got.

So, if I get to say my peace, Get busy livin’.

Q:  What is your biggest pet peeve?

A:  My biggest pet peeve in life are people that stand in front of me in line at the coffee shop and look at the menu like they have no idea why they’re there. My biggest pet peeve in writing are the people that apparently do not see the value in reading a synopsis prior to reading a book.

Q:  What are 4 things you never leave home without?

A:   Four things I will never leave home without. My watch. My electronic cigarette. My money clip and my glasses.

Q:  Coffee or tea? How much of it do you drink on a daily basis?

A:  Coffee. How much a day. Holy crap, seriously? Well, I drink three pots a day. As you that know me know. I do not drink water. For the month of October, 2013. I went from October 1st – October 30th without as much as a sip of water. I was proving a point in going a month, but didn’t realize it was still October when I took a drink from a water bottle. I drink coffee until three a.m., and go to bed. It has no effect on me as far as keeping me awake, but I love the taste. Tea? No thank you.

Q:  If you had a superpower, what would it be?

A:  If I had a superpower it would be like the Flash. I would be normal, but have the ability to go from point A to point B in an instant. Other than that, the same guy. Flash is normal, right?

Q:  What is one of your favorite quotes?

A:  My favorite quote is this: “You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take.” – Wayne Gretzky.

UNSTOPPABLE BY SCOTT HILDRETH

CHAPTER 1

RIPP. “Michael, eat your potatoes, you’re pickin’,” my mother sighed as she pointed to my plate.

I haven’t taken shit from anyone since my first playground fight when I was twelve years old. From that day until today, no one has ever picked a fight with me. Ever. If someone has fought me it was because they were either getting paid or they were trying to see if they could take a shot at my undefeated record.

Taking shit from my mother is another thing all together.

“Mom, I’m eating them,” I said as I began take another bite of the grilled chicken she had served.

Mothers in general can be funny creatures – but mothers born and raised in Texas always look at their children as just that, their children. I am my mother’s child, but I am not childlike in my actions. By watching my mother, you’d think I was ten years old.

“Michael, you’re not eatin’ ‘em. Is there something wrong with ‘em?” she set her fork down beside her plate and poked her finger into the pile of potatoes that sat on the edge of my plate.

“Mom, what the fuck are you doing fingerin’ my food?” I widened my eyes, dropped my chicken bone onto the plate and shook my head.

“Talk like that to your mother again, and I’ll slap your ass out of that damned chair, Mike. Eat your taters,” my father growled from across the table.

“I’m gonna eat ‘em. I didn’t know we had fuckin’ time limit or a particular order we had to eat shit in. Damn, Pop,” as I turned to face my father, he raised his hand in a gesture as if he was going to slap me.

Truth be known, my father has never so much as spanked my butt as a kid. Growing up in this house was like something out of a feel-good movie. A perfect house, perfect parents, and growing up with the feeling only a true loving, caring family could provide. Both my parents were like comedic actors. Always being funny, making jokes, and never expressing anything but true love – in their own silly way. Coming here for Sunday dinner was like going to the damned circus.

“You put ‘em on your plate, you better damned well eat ‘em,” my father hissed as he pointed at my plate with his fork.

“Son of a bitch, Pop. I’m gonna eat some of ‘em. I ain’t looking to eat ‘em all. I’m trying to save a little room. I gotta exercise in a bit, and I don’t want to end up fat from eating a bunch of god damned potatoes,” I explained as I forked some of the sliced cucumbers on my plate.

“Shane’s gonna be fightin’ for the championship, and he ain’t worried about a few taters,” my father said as he nodded toward Shane’s plate.

“God damn it Pop, I ain’t Shane and I’ll eat my food as I please. Can everyone just quit fingering and poking around on my god damned plate and let me eat some meat?” I looked up from my fork full of cucumbers and turned toward Shane.

His plate was empty.

Fucking kiss ass.

Shane shrugged his shoulders and smiled. Ever since he got an opportunity at the Heavyweight Championship, my parents invited him every Sunday for dinner. My father always wanted me to go the distance and fight for a title fight, but I’ve never been that type of fighter. Under no circumstances did my father understand.  To me, it has never been about a title, a place in a book, or being on the news.

It’s about beating another man’s ass, and knowing you did so. I never needed a referee to tell me that I had won a fight. From just looking toward the other side of the ring – and seeing my opponent – everyone who witnessed my fights knew who won.

Long before it was ever announced.

“Dekk and I got shit we gotta do tonight, and I damned sure don’t need to be all bloated from eating potatoes. Mom, the food’s good as always, including the potatoes,” I nodded my head in my mother’s direction.

“The food was wonderful, Mrs. Ripton,” Shane said as he stood up from the table and carried his plate to the sink.

“Get your nose out of my mom’s ass, Dekk,” I laughed as I picked up another chicken breast from my plate.

“Michael!” my mother screeched.

“Damn it son,” my father complained.

“Well, he’s always kissing your asses. Great food, Mrs. Ripton, I like your truck, Mr. Ripton, Your hair looks great, Heather. I like your dress, Manda. It gets a little tough to listen to,” I laughed as I dropped the breast bone onto my plate and  licked my fingers.

“Where’s that girl you’re seein’ Shane?” my father asked as Shane rinsed his plate.

“She’s at home, sir. Ripp. I mean Mike and I have to go…” Shane looked over his shoulder and paused.

God damn it, Dekkar.

“Have to go where? For what?” my father turned to face me.

He looked toward Shane, and turned to face me again. As he scrunched his brow he attempted to gaze into my eyes. I looked toward Shane in disbelief and rolled my eyes.

“What? Have to what? What are you two heathens doing? Mike, are you going over to Rundberg again? Or over to the east side? Damnit it Mike, I’ve told you about that,” my father shook his head as he stood from the table.

I stood from my seat.

“Pop…” before I got started talking he interrupted me.

“Don’t Pop me, Mike. You’re going to get your ass handed to you one of these nights from some twenty year old kid wacked out on crack,” my father complained as he walked to the sink.

My mother looked back and forth at each of us as we stood; unaware of what was going on for certain. I suspect most mothers are, but my mother was exceptionally naïve to everything around her.

“Pop. You and I both know I don’t make any money to speak of by boxing. I do it because I am good at it. I can paint cars, but I fucking hate painting cars. Or. Well. You know what else I can do,” I explained as I followed him to the sink.

“And people don’t smoke crack anymore, do they Dekk?” I laughed.

“You know what I mean, Mike. You’re not twenty years old any longer,” my father dropped his plate into the sink and reached for my shoulder.

Immediately, and in an exaggerated fashion, I leaned back, grabbed my father’s wrist, and twisted his arm behind his back.

“Damn it, Mike. Turn me loose,” he demanded as I pressed his stomach into the counter top.

“Still lightning fast, old man,” I growled into his ear as I pushed my chest into his back.

“Let your father go, Mike,” my mother exhaled a half-whisper without looking up from her plate of food.

I laughed as I let go of my father’s arm.

“Pop, I’m thirty-one. You’re right. I ain’t twenty. But if my twenty year old self was here right now, I’d beat his ass. I’m bigger, meaner, and quicker than I ever been. I’ll be fine,” I raised both my clenched fists to my mouth and kissed them independently.

As I held my hands up at eye level, I flexed my biceps.

My father shook his head, trying to change the subject, “And where’s that girl you’re seein’, Mike?”

“Liv? I ain’t seein’ her, Pop. I’m screwing her,” I laughed as I patted Dekk on the shoulder.

“Michael…” my mother said softly as soon as I said screwing.

It has always amazed me that my mother can’t hear, as hard as I try to get her to. As soon as I talk about doing something with a girl, she can hear a mouse fart. Supersonic hearing when it comes to my sex life. Both my parents have maintained a level of concern about my lack of commitment regarding a relationship.

I do relationships.

Just not for very long.

“Mom, Pop, we got to get. Come on Dekk,” I slapped Dekk’s shoulder again and turned toward the garage.

“Mr. and Mrs. Ripton,” Shane nodded toward my father and leaned to kiss my mother’s cheek.

“Come on, Dekk. Damn,” I exhaled and shoved my hands into the pockets of my shorts.

“Mom, Pop. Thanks. We gotta get,” I patted my mother’s shoulder as I walked around the table.

“You ain’t driving that car to Rundberg are you?” my father asked.

“Pop. Just leave it alone. Dekk and I and that damned car will all be fine, huh Dekk?” I chuckled.

“Mr. Ripton,” Dekk nodded as he walked through the kitchen.

“Don’t fuck that car up,” my father squealed.

“It ain’t yours anymore, Pop. It’ll be fine,” I shook my head and walked toward the garage as Dekk following close behind me.

As we stepped into the garage, Shane walked around me toward the rear of the garage.

Watching Shane walk was something that took me time to get used to. I remember when we met, after our first fight. I had challenged him about his way of walking.

“That walk of yours is either going to get you into a hell of a lot of trouble or keep you out of it, I can’t decide which,” I had laughed.

“I call it the Compton swagger,” Shane chucked in reply.

“Living in Compton, you need to know how to fight or you need to act like you know how. I know I can fight, but I needed to try to keep people from challenging me. So, I developed this walk. A walk with an attitude. It’s habit now,” he explained.

“Well, it works,” I agreed.

And we’ve been best friends since.

“Son of a bitch Dekk. You know he hates me going to Rundberg, and you know he always worries about his old car. Jesus,” I complained jokingly.

“And you know I hate you fighting these fights,” Dekk said as he walked around the car.

“It’s all I know. I ain’t painting cars anymore for money, it kills my lungs,” I said over the top of the car as I opened the door.

I had purchased my car from my father – a red 1969 Chevelle SS he had driven when he was in high school. After he graduated, he restored the car to near perfect condition. I bought it from him when I was twenty years old. Eleven years later, the car was in perfect condition, red, and race-ready. I had removed the 396 cubic inch motor, and installed a Chevy 502 cubic inch motor. The four speed transmission kept the entertainment value up, and made it damned intimidating in a street race.

As I fired up the motor, Shane started to speak. I raised my hands and shook my head.

“You know I can’t hear you in this loud motherfucker while we’re in the garage,” I screamed as I pushed in the clutch and shifted the car into reverse.

I looked over my right shoulder and through the back glass. As I let out the clutch the car started to surge backward. The whumpity-whump of the cam in this motor made it impossible to drive at low rpm or speed. I pressed on the gas to keep the engine from dying, backing the car out of the garage and into the street.

I pressed the brakes, stopped the car, and made eye contact with Dekk as I rotated my head to look straight ahead.

I raised my eyebrows and smiled an evil grin.

I came to my parent’s house once a week at minimum. Sunday dinner at home was a tradition. Although I drove my truck during the week at times, I always drove the Chevelle to my parent’s house. Fifty percent of the time that I left, I left like I was in a drag race.

The two dozen sets of black marks in front of the house were a constant reminder to my father of the differences in how he drove this car, and how I drove it. I did it to torture him and remind him of the fact that this wasn’t his car anymore.

As I shifted it into first, Shane began to yell.

“Dude, not again. Your father is going to kill you. He’s already pissed about you fighting bare knuckles in Rundberg,” Shane half yelled as he shook his head comically from side-to-side.

As I pressed the gas pedal half way to the floor the sound from the exhaust was deafening. I pressed a little further, and Dekk’s hands came up to cover his ears. I pressed a little further. As the motor reached that sweet spot – the one that I used to launch this car from a dead stop – my cock started to get stiff.

I turned toward Dekk and smiled.

“I love this fucking car, Dekk,” I screamed.

“Don’t,” he yelled.

“Can I get a fuck yes?” I tilted my head back and looked up at the headliner as I screamed.

I rotated my head to the left and looked toward my parent’s house. As the exhaust bellowed from the back of the car, my father stared out the window of the living room into the street, his hands pressed into his hips.

This ain’t your car anymore, old man.

I slid my foot off of the clutch, mashed the gas pedal to the floor, launching the car from a dead stop like it had been hit from behind by a semi-truck. I glanced right. Dekk, pinned to his seat, tried to reach for the dash to stabilize himself.

The car slid sideways as I grabbed second gear. Half way through second the tires started to grip, pressing Shane further into his seat. A quick glance in the rearview mirror confirmed the entire block was filled with the smoke from my tires. Two one hundred foot long black marks in front of my parent’s house would remind my father for the next month that I’m a little wilder than he is.

Just a little.

I shifted into third gear and let off the gas. Shane lowered his hands into his lap and exhaled.

As I came to a stop at the intersection, I rotated my wrist and glanced at my G-Shock. Thirty minutes to make it to Rundberg. Ten minutes to spare if traffic is decent. I lifted my hands from the steering wheel and looked at the scars that littered my knuckles and smiled. One more wouldn’t even be noticed.

The $2500 I’d win from knocking this punk out would last me over a month, and knocking motherfuckers out is what I do.

“You alright bro?” Shane asked as he rubbed his hands together and looked down at his lap.

I thought of another bare knuckled match in Rundberg. The smell of the adrenaline, the sweat, my muscles becoming pumped, the blood, the screaming of the people betting on the match, and taking that $2500 when it was over.

Am I ready?

I gripped the steering wheel and nodded my head once.

Fuck yes.

About the Author

Author Scott Hildreth (SD) Hildreth

Readers,

I will never forget the first time I actually felt as if I had helped someone resolve an issue in their life. I was in middle school. It started then, and has continued throughout my entire life. I have always made myself available to talk to people and resolve (or attempt to resolve) issues that they struggle with.

Having an exceptional ability to communicate has always been a gift of mine, and I have enjoyed doing so. Telling stories has always been second nature to me. Writing has been a passion of mine since I was a child. I have written poetry, romance, self-help, addiction, alcoholism, codependency, technical, and satire. There isn’t a genre or a topic that I feel more comfortable with. I enjoy writing about whatever it is that I feel passionate about at the time.

Being open-minded and often seeing abusive relationships unfold, I have always been passionate about abuse, or the prevention of it. My main focus has always been people that are incapable of helping themselves, primarily women, children, and the elderly. I have talked to hundreds of women that were in abusive relationships, and assisted many of them in removing themselves from these relationships.

I try to focus in my writings to develop a story that makes people stop and think. To look at a subject or subjects from a different point of view. If I am able to get my point across, and make the subject entertaining to the reader, I feel that I have met my objective. I feel that I have tremendous depth as a person, and have had some great experiences in my life. To date, what life has offered me has been nothing short of spectacular. My opinions, point of views, and perspectives on matters are just that; an opinion. There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong in what I write, but more of a belief. I always believe in what I am writing, and I further believe that the reader may benefit from viewing it from the written perspective.

I hope that you enjoy reading what I have written as much as I enjoy writing it. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than knowing a reader enjoyed something I have written. Considering that, please take time to leave a book review if you have read something I have written.

Best Regards,

Scott Hildreth

Undefeated is another ‘Knock-Out’ Erotic Read by, Author Scott Hildreth!

The dynamics of the characters is incredible. Each and everyone have their own back story and personal issues. This novel is based on a conversation that Hildreth had with someone dealing with Domestic Abuse in her life. Hildreth was bold, in that he took a topic that is not a typical theme in a romance, let alone an erotic romance novel. He saved his punches to the ‘twat waffle’ behind the conversation with the stranger. Instead he punched the keys to type this novel and bring it to his readers. The Heroine in, Undefeated, never let others know of her situation. She hid the bruises from those around her, until her bruised heart and body could not take it anymore. Look around you readers, who around you may be dealing with this issue in their own life? Definitely makes you go hmm…

Hildreth’s writing comes straight from the heart. At the beginning of each chapter is  a message. This message gives the reader pause as to what the chapter will be about, and may even speak to you personally and/or emotionally in relation to your own life.  His words encourage the reader to actually ‘think’ about what is being read.

Although the novel is considered an erotic read, it is not all about the sex that makes this a great read. The Hero, Shane Dekkar is a strong, yet compassionate, considering, character (at least when it comes to women be treated as an object or dirt). His family background had its share of ups and downs. With this being said, Shane tries to live in the present instead of the past. He uses his God given talent to make a living, and protect women as best he can. His character is easily likable. He is the guy you might see at the gym, in a restaurant, or vehicle insurance office.  Though with his handsome looks, you may have to take a second or third look… and for more reasons than his looks alone.

P.S. If you are ever at one of his Sunday Chicken BBQ’s where Ripp is cooking. Um…do NOT eat the chicken! You will just have to read this novel to solve your curiosity.

The Best Man

Author Michelle Lee

ML3

SYNOPSIS:
Those eyes, those lips, that body. Kassidy Marshall has always been that perfect picture of cool, calm and in control. Always in control; until she meets the best man, Ryan Davis (or as his friends call him, just Davis).
Now she feels anything but in control and she cant stop the dreams she keeps having of him, even though she finds him extremely attractive but also extremely frustrating.
Will she be able to resist him, or will she fall for The Best Man?
He can only hope….
ML2

Excerpt 1:

“I could just devour you,” he groans in my ear. I arch my back, and his tongue flickers down my neck, past my collarbone, before settling on my pert nipple. The ache between my legs grows, and feels like I will explode at any moment. He looks up at me through his long lashes. “I’m gonna take you places tonight, Miss Marshall, you have only imagined.” His mouth leaves my nipple, making its way down to my navel. I moan, wiggle and arch my back again in anticipation for where he is going to take me and for what he is going to do to me. “You may want to grab on to something, angel.”

ML

Excerpt 2:

For some odd reason I just stand there paralyzed, it is as if my feet are encased in concrete. I feel my breathing accelerate as I gaze into his eyes. The room is spinning and I am mesmerized. Until now I really hadn’t looked this closely at Davis. Sure, I have noticed previously that he is as hot as fuck, but something is different tonight.
I hear my inner self clapping, uncontrollably.
I am staring and he just stares back in complete silence. I am pulled closer to him, but not by his arms or hands, but simply by his presence. I feel as though I am a moth and he is the flame. Two magnets being pulled to each other.

Sex in the Title: A Comedy about Dating, Sex, and Romance in NYC (Back When Phones Weren’t So Smart)

Author Zack Love

SITT

RELEASE DATE: October 21, 2013
gg60466549

SYNOPSIS:
New York City, May 2000. The Internet bubble has burst, and Evan’s boss fires him with an email. The next day, his girlfriend dumps him, also via email. Afraid to check any more emails, Evan desperately seeks a rebound romance but the catastrophes that ensue go from bad to hilariously worse. Fortunately, Evan meets someone whose legendary disasters with females eclipse even his own.To reverse their fortunes, they recruit their friends into a group of five guys who take on Manhattan in pursuit of dates, sex, and adventure. With musings about life, relationships, and human psychology, this quintessential New York story about the search for happiness follows five men on their comical paths to trouble, self-discovery, and love.

EXCERPT 1

“So what’s the body count?”

“The body count?”

“You know: how many women have you slept with in your twenty-nine years?”

Evan wasn’t sure whether to overstate the number to look sexually impressive to a soft porn star, or whether to understate the number to look less promiscuous and more like the responsible, clean cut, solid-boyfriend type. Since he still hadn’t quite figured out what Tina was looking for or who she really was, he decided just to tell the truth.

“I’ve been with about sixty-seven women.”

“What do you mean ‘about sixty-seven?’ You say ‘about sixty’ or ‘about seventy.’ But not ‘about sixty-seven.’ You’re obviously keeping track.” Tina looked amused at another opportunity to toy with Evan.

“All right. You got me,” Evan conceded. “I’ve been with precisely sixty-seven women.”

“Unless, of course, you said ‘about’ because the total depends on how you define ‘being with a woman.’ For example, if you just got a blowjob and nothing else then maybe you don’t count that.”

“OK. To be more precise, I’ve had sexual intercourse with sixty-seven women.”

“All right, so then you’ve probably been with many more women than sixty-seven?”

“Yeah. But I don’t keep track of those.” Evan suddenly wondered why he didn’t bother to keep track of anything but consummation.

“I see…So when did you get started on these sixty-seven women?”

“You mean, how old was I when I lost my virginity?”

“Yes.”

“Twenty.”

“So you’ve slept with sixty-seven women in just nine years.”

“Well, actually I’ve had six serious relationships that together took up about two years.”

“Serious? Let’s see…Six serious relationships in two years…So each one lasted an average of four months. You call that serious?”

“Well, it was an intense four months. And I wasn’t seeing anyone else. You know, that’s kind of a big deal in New York,” he added ironically. “Dating someone exclusively for four months in New York is like four years in Anchorage.”

Tina chuckled at Evan’s joke. “All right, so not counting the serious relationships, you’ve slept with…” She crunched some numbers in her head. “You’ve slept with sixty-one women in just seven years…That’s an average of almost nine per year…A new woman every forty days.” Tina seemed impressed, which suddenly made Evan feel rather promiscuous.

EXCERPT 2:

 “What’s SQ?” asked Evan.

“Sexual Quotient.”

 “What’s that?”

“Basically, it’s your odds of getting laid. Everyone has an SQ. Just like everyone has an IQ.”

“I’ve never heard that term before.”

“That’s because I made it up.”

“That figures. Finally applying your actuarial skills to what really matters, eh?”

“Yeah…It’s an idea I had always sort of toyed with, but after I lost Yumi to my boss, I really began to develop and refine it.”

“Why is that?”

“Because I started obsessing over why she suddenly dumped me for him. And in the process of figuring that out, I developed the concept of SQ.”

“So how does it work?”

“Your Sexual Quotient is really just an attempt to quantify, on some absolute scale, how attractive you are to the opposite sex. In general, the higher your SQ, the more desirable you are.”

“So the higher your SQ, the easier it is for you to get laid.”

“Right. But your SQ determines a lot more; it effectively defines your bargaining position in a relationship. The lower your SQ, the more likely you are to be dominated by the person you’re with,” Heeb explained.

“You really think so?”

“Look at me. I always end up being the doormat because of my SQ. But if you look at models – male or female – they generally get away with demanding more and giving less.”

“So how do you figure out your SQ?” Evan asked, suddenly eager to compute his own Sexual Quotient.

“Well, your subjective SQ is how attractive you are to a particular person. And your objective SQ is just the average of all the scores you got for all of the people out there.”

“So how do I calculate my SQ for a particular woman?”

“It’s calculated the way you would calculate your personal income taxes.”

“How’s that?”

“Various facts cause you to take deductions from the total, although with taxes you want the deductions and with your SQ you obviously don’t. Because the lower your objective SQ is, the fewer women you attract, and the less picky you can be. And that’s a bad thing. And for anyone who wants to marry a Jew, it’s a disaster.”

“Why?”

“Because there are only about fourteen million Jews in the whole world, which leaves about seven million for each gender. So let’s say I’m willing to date any Jewish woman who’s twenty to forty years old. That leaves me with a choice of about two million women in the world. And if we assume that half of those women are already taken, I’m left with a million eligible women roaming about six billion people.  And, chances are, the million that’s not taken is not taken for a reason.”

“A million?”

“Yeah. And if you want to get really precise, we need to shave off at least another three hundred thousand, because I can’t date any Chasidic, Orthodox or even Conservative Jews.”

“Why is that?”

“Because I’m compatible only with bagel Jews.”

“Bagel Jews?”

“The ones who are Jewish culturally but not religiously. Which leaves about seven hundred thousand.”

EXCERPT 3

“Listen to what you’re saying to me! Can you believe what you just – ”

Heeb blanked out on Melody for a moment as he remembered that he needed to deposit his mail in the mailbox a few feet away because it was the last one before he entered the Eighty-sixth Street subway station. He had been looking forward to this moment, after uncomfortably holding his mail in a stack that was sandwiched between his fingers and his cell phone, which was held down on the stack by his right thumb and pressed up to the side of his head for the conversation.

He refocused on Melody’s rant: “…not fair…I mean, listen to how you communicate with me! I feel like that’s become our problem. That’s really what this is about now: we just don’t communicate like we used – ” And that was the last thing he heard Melody say. Heeb’s painfully cramped and over-encumbered fingers were so eager to release the stack of mail from his right hand into the mailbox that they released his cell phone as well.

Heeb stood there for a moment, in dazed disbelief, looking helplessly at the sides of the mailbox. Melody’s continuing diatribe could now be heard only as a series of strangely muffled, barely audible noises, emanating from within the metal mailbox, like a transistor radio that falls into a manhole and just gives off a faint, chattering buzz.

In absurd desperation, Heeb tried cupping his hands to the mailbox for a moment, and shouting into it, hoping that she might hear what happened and that he really didn’t mean to drop the phone in the mailbox just as she was complaining about how they don’t communicate as well as they used to.

“Melody! Melody! I can’t hear you! I dropped my phone in the mailbox! Can you hear me?! I’m sorry! It slipped!”

As several commuters walked by, looking oddly at this heavyset balding man in a suit and tie crouched down low and apparently talking rather urgently to a mailbox, Heeb felt that he may have reached the nadir of his follies in the New York dating scene. But it would actually get much worse.

AUTHOR BIO:
Zack Love graduated from Harvard College, where he tried to create a bachelor’s degree in Women. With the bachelor portion of that degree in hand, he settled in New York City but – to afford renting his bed-sized studio – found himself flirting mostly with a computer screen and stacks of documents. Determined not to die a corporate drone, Zack decided to sacrifice sleep for screenwriting, an active social life, and Internet startups offering temporary billion-dollar fantasies.

To feed his steady diet of NYC nightlife, he regularly crashed VIP parties in the early 2000s and twice bumped into his burgeoning crush, a Hollywood starlet. But – much to Zack’s surprise – neither of those awkward conversations led to marriage with the A-list actress. Zack eventually consoled himself by imagining fiascoes far worse than those involving his celebrity crush. In the process, he dreamed up a motley gang of five men inspired by some of his college friends and quirky work colleagues. And thus was born Sex in the Title. But the novel is not autobiographical: Zack never had his third leg attacked by any mammal (nor by any plant, for that matter). In fact, keeping his member safe has been one of Zack’s lifelong goals – and one of the few that he’s managed to accomplish.

I’ve often been accused of having done more in my life than the average person my age, but if I were completely honest I’d have to tell you my secret: I’m really 392.
So after all this time, I’m a pretty crappy writer.
I have one book published but out of print, one coming out soon, and a bunch half written (when you have eternity, where’s the reason to rush?). I’ve been favorably reviewed by horror greats like Nancy Kilpatrick, and my how-to-write-horror articles have been quoted in scholarly (aka community college freshmen’s) papers.
I enjoy the occasional Bloody Mary, although a Bloody Kathy or Susan will suffice.
Mostly, I just try to keep a low profile so people don’t figure out who I REALLY am.

Synopsis

Lovers at Heart is a steamy contemporary romance with alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They’re flawed, funny, passionate, and very relatable for readers who enjoy adult romance, contemporary romance, and women’s fiction.

Handsome, wealthy resort owner Treat Braden is used to getting what he wants. When Max Armstrong walked into his life six months earlier, he saw right through the efficient and capable façade she wore like a shield, to the sweet, sensual woman who lay beneath. She sparked an unfamiliar desire in him for more than a one-night stand, leaving his heart reeling and his blood boiling. But one mistake caused her to turn away, and now, after six months of longing for the one woman he cannot have, he’s going home to try to forget her all together.

Max Armstrong has a successful career, a comfortable lifestyle, and she’s never needed a man to help her find her way–until Treat Braden caught her attention at a wedding in Nassau, causing a surge of emotions too reminiscent of the painful past she’d spent years trying to forget. Max will do anything to avoid reliving that pain–including forgoing her toe-curling, heart-pounding desire for Treat.

When a chance encounter turns into a night of intense passion, Treat realizes that the mistake he made six months earlier may cause him to lose Max completely. He will do everything within his power to win her heart forever–and Max is forced to face her hurtful past head on for the man she cannot help but love.

“Steamy sex scenes and heartfelt confessions…a satisfying addition to the ‘Love in Bloom’ series.”  – Midwest Book Review

How do Indie Movies, a Billionaire, a Nassau Resort, A Colorado Ranch, a tiller,  and New England Oysters go together… Well reader, that is what you will discover while reading this romance.

This is my first Melissa Foster Novel. All in all I would have to say that I like it. I would recommend reading the series from the very start. Which would be, Love in Bloom-Sisters in Love (which at time of posting is free in e-book form on Amazon and Barnes & Noble). Love at Heart is Book 4 of the entire series, but Book 1 in, The Bradens. Even though I am not familiar with all the characters or have prior knowledge of all the happenings in the prior novels, the author does a good job of filling in the blanks. Several times Max and Treat think back to their stormy boat voyage. I believe this action takes place in book 3, Love in Bloom-Sisters in White. Lovers at Heart picks up six months later in October. (Lovers at Heart is also available FREE in e-book format from Amazon, Barnes & Noble).

Love in Bloom-Love at Heart (The Bradens) takes the reader into an introductory look at the whole Braden  family. Treat Braydens brothers,  sister, and father are integrated into the novels storyline.

At the beginning of the novel, and if you read book 3 in the series, then you know that Max and Treat met in Nassau at a friend/relatives double wedding. Now six months have passed and both still think hard and sadly about interactions taken place at that time and in that place.

Treat Brayden owner of the Nassau and many other resorts needs a break  from said resort. So he flies from Nassau to Colorado to be with his family. Oh, but he forgot that the Indie Film Festival was that same time frame. And who do you think he should see in the crowd? Max of course!

Though it seems these two have ‘ships passing in the night syndrome’.

Fate seems to put them together, but somehow actions and words tend to get misunderstood.

Then the next thing the reader knows is that their next meeting of fate or destiny is in New England. Where another festival, this time the oyster festival is taking place. There are people, people, and more people. Max feels pulled to the area, but why? Then she sees something she wished she hadn’t. However instead of moping about she decides to join in the happenings of the town. Will fate put Max and Treat together again? Both characters have a past that were painful where the idea of Love was concerned. In their own ways they have to work these feelings, emotions and memories out with themselves and with each other.

This novel is full of ups, downs, highs, lows, and a collection of emotions from the first page to the last page.

Love is a strong sensation as you read this novel. Not only does the reader experience a couple working on a relationship based on love.  One in which the hero and heroine are  trying to move past their own                      experiences with love up until now, but also the love of a close family. A husband that still feels his wife’s presence around him, that still loves her.

Will Max and Treat ever be able to connect at the same port or forever sail past one another?

Will either ever have their phone on at the same time? Will the hero and heroine ever communicate? Will their be a Happy Ending?

Is their love and draw to one another strong enough to survive trusting each other, trusting in LOVE, and where ever life  or work may take them?

Well then reader, you will just have to read this novel for yourself.

After reading this particular novel out of sink with the rest of the series, I would like to go back and add the previous novels on my To Be Read list, as well as keep up with future releases. For the heroes are HOT, the sex is STEAMY. Overall I am glad that I was introduced to this author via the blog tour.

The writing was written in such a way that even reading this novel as a stand alone verses in series, the reader has a sense of  the characters back-stories from the previous novels in the series. The novel keeps the reader guessing. Wondering if Love will prevail, will the hero and heroine ever get together and stay together?

I have told you before I am an emotional reader. An all the ups and downs in this book had me tearing up through a good portion of the novel. Definitely need tissues handy, or at least I did. I know everyone is not an emotional reader and the novel may not effect you the same way that it did me. But I just wanted to tell Max to turn her phone on… to talk it out with Treat…

Then there is the special bond among the Braden family members. So when the novel takes a turn, I turn emotional…

Synopsis:
Logan West’s life is anything but ideal.Mindless sex, tedious business ventures, and the occasional poker game keep him occupied, but he only lives for one thing: fatherhood.

Oliver, Logan’s three-year-old son, is his entire world. Raising him alone, Logan finds his only joy in spending time giving Oliver the childhood he deserves. But every other weekend, he allows himself the chance to live as a man—a man with deeper desires. Logan knows what he likes, what he wants, and what he needs. He has no interest in dating and believes there’s no risk worth taking for romance, but his casual sexual escapes rarely leave him satisfied.

It takes an unexpected decision from his sister Julia and a road trip to the small town of Harmony with his best friend, Caleb, to open Logan’s eyes to new opportunities outside his programmed world. Its not what he expects, but Logan’s always looking to indulge.

This can be read as the first in the Harmony series or anytime during the series. It is not a mandatory read to enjoy the series, simply a companion read. This novella is Logan’s story of how he ended up living in Harmony and right next door to the woman that would forever change his life.

Readers, I was fortunate enough to be a Beta Reader on Indulge.  This novel really gives the reader an insight into Logan, his background, and the reason he moved to Harmony (aside from his sister attending college there).

The novel begins with Natasha and her disappearing act. Readers can feel the emotional toll this takes on Logan. With this being said, Logan’s life focuses around one night stands, casual sex, and his love for his son, Oliver. Logan’s whole world is Oliver. He wants Oliver protected and loved. Logan does not want Oliver in any way to encounter his extra curricular activities with the ladies.  Logan makes sure to schedule his affairs around Oliver’s schedule.

The time period of the novel runs from Natasha’s leaving and before his move to Harmony. Logan loves his family, and is very close to his family. He wants his siblings to be the best they can be, have the best they can, and do the best they can. That is why when his sister tells him she wants to go to college in Harmony, where his parents were from, he is not happy. Then when he goes there and finds his sister is there too…

Well, you will just have to read to see…

I would caution you to read Inevitable and Irreplaceable first. Why? Well, if you read, Indulge first I caution you to ** Spoiler Alerts **  Reading, Indulge after reading the first two novels in the series will keep the suspense and questions you may have in check with the series.

If you have read the Harmony Series, you know that Logan is one Hot, Handsome, Ladies man. Indulge is all about this side of Logan. Yet, it also shows his strong love for his son.  The activities he plans and engages Oliver in.

Want to learn more about Logan? Then read Indulge!!!

I promise there are some surprises in store for you if you do…

Teaser 1

As I approach, I realize I have to say something to him. What will I say? I haven’t a clue. I just have to say something, anything, but it couldn’t be any worse than him being my personal eye candy. Bravely, I look up at him and try to open my mouth, but nothing comes out. He’s amazingly beautiful. I’m speechless. And I’m never speechless.

The picture Jenny has of him doesn’t do him justice. Dark brown hair that’s all kinds of messy, gray eyes that have specks of blue thrown in for good measure, framed by thick eyelashes. I see a small scar above his left eyebrow that adds to his sexiness. Oh, and his mouth. His lips appear soft, plump and kissable. I’m thinking that with the lips, mouth, and his strong jaw line, he’s a triple threat. There’s no doubt in my mind that they have the ability to wreak havoc all over my body. Now, if his tongue pops out, I could probably have a mini-orgasm right now at baggage claim. Definitely sex on a stick. Can I get a lick please?

Ben clears his throat, and it startles me awake from my dirty thoughts. “I’m thinking you must be Sam. I really hope so because if I bring home the wrong person Jenny will kill me.”

I laugh and try not to sound like an idiot. “That’s me. I’m Sam. Love the sign by the way. Very Say Anything.” He looks at me strangely, like I just spoke in a foreign language. I quickly fumble for something to say. “You know the movie, right? The boom box scene? It’s one of my favorites. You holding the sign up reminded me of it.” Okay Sam, stop rambling. “Anyway, never mind. I’ve got all my stuff so we can head out now.” Just stop talking.

“Okay, let me help you with your things. This isn’t too bad. Are you having some things shipped out?” He bends down to secure my luggage on the cart.

“No, I really don’t need much. I put most of my furniture in storage at my Dad’s house and donated a bunch of other stuff. I’ve got my essentials, and if I need anything else, Jenny will take me shopping.” I fidget with my backpack straps to keep my body busy. I remove it from my left shoulder and begin to place it on my right one. I swing it with as much force as I can due to its weight. This, of course, causes me to lose my balance. Fortunately or not, it smacks Ben right on the side of his bent over body, and he goes down to the ground taking me on top of him. Could this get any more awkward?

My body is frozen. Holy pecs. Instead of saying sorry and getting up, I blurt out the first thing that comes into my head. “Holy chest! Fuck, I mean, are you okay? Sorry.” The fact that he just stares at me puts my nerves into overdrive. “Could this be any more awkward? I’m certainly making quite the first impression.” My voice starts strong but ends with a whimper. I mentioned his chest, stupid ass.

I can’t read the look on Ben’s face. I’m thinking it’s a mixture of surprise, amusement, but something else. Something I haven’t seen in a man’s eyes for a long time. It looks like longing, or maybe its lust? He stutters a bit. “I … I think as far as first impressions go, I’d say, so far so good. It’s not every day I have a beautiful girl fall on top of me.” He winks at me, and I feel something stir low in my belly. He thinks I’m beautiful.

“What? Is it like only every other day that a girl falls on top of you?” I try to act smooth as I get off him and reach for my backpack. I hear him laugh as he gets up, helping me with my backpack.

“Hey, be careful with that thing. You could really hurt somebody. What’s in there anyway?”

“Well my e-reader and laptop, but both are pretty light, so I’m thinking you’re just wimpy.” I fight back my laughter, but it slips out when he feigns being hurt.

“But not my chest, right?” Smug bastard! “Let’s get this stuff loaded up in the car and get out of here.”

Teaser 2

Reaching down for her bags, I gesture to go inside. “Hey, let’s get your stuff inside. I’ll show you where you’re staying. You’ve got one of the best rooms here at the ranch. Wait ‘til you see the view.”

Cursing myself for sounding like an overexcited tour guide, I walk through the door. She starts to trail behind me, but stops. She turns away from the door and walks back down the porch stairs to a row of grapevines. I put the bags down and feel that pull again to follow her.

“Is everything okay?”

She looks back at me. “Yeah, I just need a minute. I want to remember this moment—this shift.” Her hands roam down her neck while she closes her eyes. “I want to let everything soak in.” I watch her open her eyes. “I want to look at the view and see the grapevines and hills. I want to smell the sweetness of the grapes and wine. I want to hear the rustling of the leaves and the tractor engine purrs. I want to touch the vines, leaves, and grapes.” She looks back at me again, and I’m blown away. I watch a stray hair fall in front of her face. It takes all my will power not to touch her.

“You forgot taste.”

She smiles devilishly. “Yeah, I definitely want to taste. What do you suggest?” She raises her eyebrows, and I can’t keep my hand from delicately placing the strand behind her ear. Her breath hitches from my touch. Oh God, this girl is going to unravel me. It’s been so long since I’ve felt this way- it overwhelms me. The way she’s looking at me like she could devour me whole. There’s no doubt in my mind what I want to taste.

Yep, I’m definitely wrecked.

“How about our merlot? It pairs nicely with some dark chocolate.”

“Sounds perfect. Let’s get my bags in, and then we can have that taste.” Now it’s her turn to wink.

Images of my tongue licking drops of red wine that trickle down her exposed neck and breasts envelop me. All I know is if she says taste one more time, I’ll be taking a shower sooner than I thought.

 TEASER 3

Looking up into her moist eyes I pull her close to me. Our arms hug each other with a fierceness that’s getting rid of every loose fragment of damage. We’re expelling each and every bad memory and all the shit that’s fucked us up. “I don’t want to let you go. Can we stay like this for a little while longer?” Her head nods on my shoulder as she sinks deeper into our embrace.

“You feel incredible in my arms. I never thought much about guardian angels, but I think you’ve been sent just for me. Your arms wrapping around me make everything go away.”
Sam’s arms grip me with even more vigor. I feel her breath and lips tickle my ear as she turns her head into the crook of my neck. Feather light kisses touch my neck and earlobe as she whispers; “You’re wrong Ben; you’re my angel. You make me believe that love can exist.” Her head pulls back but her arms stay firmly in place. “Your voice brought light into my life when all I could see was darkness. When I’m all alone, it’s your voice that I hear when I drift off to sleep at night.”
I turn and press my lips onto hers tenderly and hold them there for several seconds before breaking away. We stay holding each other well into the night. Finally, her breaths change and I realize she’s fallen asleep on my shoulder. I gently shift her body close and place one arm underneath her legs to pick her up. She stirs slightly and turns her head into the curve of my neck and inhales deeply. “Mmm, you smell so good.”
I hold her against me as I chuckle, “Oh yeah? It’s a combination of sweat, wine, and you.”
Sighing she lifts her head with her eyes still closed. “How is it you know to say the exact thing a woman likes to hear?”
“I don’t know about that. I guess you bring it out of me.”
We get into the truck, and I buckle her up. I fight off the images of the accident and instead focus on Sam.  I listen to her steady breaths and watch her sleep. She hypnotizes me.  I’m captivated by her heart, beauty and soul. Her capacity to let me in is remarkable and humbling especially when I don’t think I deserve it. Home has to feel a lot like this because I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

Teaser 4
As I step farther into the barn, I move over to the large oak barrels lined up against the wall. The smell is heavenly, and my mood begins to improve. The air I’ve been searching for is found as I inhale the sweet scent. My peace doesn’t last long, though; I can feel his presence before he even enters the barn. My body continues its steady pace toward the back where the light is dim. The hairs on the back of my neck rise as I feel his body move closer to me. I keep my mouth shut tight so nothing will spill out. It’s his turn to talk, to take a chance. Not mine.
“You ran this time.” His voice is gruff and forces me to momentarily stop my route.
“I did. The difference between my running and yours is that I went to where you would find me.” I feel his arm touch my shoulder to turn me around so I face him. My mind tells me we should talk, but I don’t want to hear anything he has to say. My body wants him and to deny it any longer is painful. Pushing my fear aside, I brace myself for what I’m about to do. “Why did you follow me?”
“I had to. Let’s not run anymore. I’m done with denying this.” His hands move to cup my face, tilting it up.
“I asked you to dance, and you said no.”
“I’m a fucking idiot. Watching you dance with Jack nearly killed me. That should have been me dancing with you. Touching you. Holding you.”
“So, why didn’t you?”
Chuckling softly, he whispers, “I’m a fucking pussy.” He hangs his head in shame. “I knew if I touched you one more time tonight, I’d be gone.” My breath hitches as his thumb strokes my bottom lip. Opening for him slightly, I nip the tip of it before speaking.
“Well, you’re touching me right now. Are you gone?”
Taking his hands away, he anxiously rubs his hair while he steps closer to me. Leaning into me, he whispers in my ear, “You have no idea how you affect me.”

Jennifer Zane has lived all over the country–from Georgia to Maryland, New York to Colorado, including an exciting five years in Montana. Her time in Big Sky country was the basis for this book. When she’s not writing, she savors the insanity of raising two boys, is figuring out how many meals she can make with a pressure cooker, and teaches a pretty mean karate class. She currently lives with her family in Colorado.

An adventure of a first grade teacher who travels from Montana to Alaska. A re-connection with her high school crush, and one night flame. From a summer job at the local XXX store to fishing for King Salmon. Think … Mud, Clown Car, Hunky Doctor, and a wedding ring.

Oh My!!!

I admit that I am one of those people that judges a book by its cover. Covers with Hot, Hunky guys usually grab my attention better than a cover with a big green fish on it. But, the synopsis sounded cute, and being labeled as a romantic comedy I decided to give it a try. Figured it would make a nice break from recent emotional new age reads. And… I am glad that I decided to add this novel to my reading collection. Overall the novel was quirky, cute, making me laugh, grin, and– Oh My! in several places.

Liar, Liar, Hearts on Fire, is the fourth novel in, The Gnome Novels Series by Jennifer Zane. It seems, Zane adds a little of her own personality and history into her novels. The background setting of, Bozeman Montana, was based on the authors own experience, ‘Under the Big Sky’ of Montana, for five years, (goodreads).

In the End, I would call this novel, One Fin-Tastic  Ooh La La, of a Read!

4.0 Rosebuds of Writing Rave

Normally when I read a series, I start by reading the first book in said series. In this case I started the series by reading book 4, Liar, Liar Hearts on Fire. Yet, even without reading the prior novels, Zane clues the reader in on the backgrounds of the characters. For instance, how Jane met her fireman fiance’, and how George the gnome fits into all the preceding novels.

(Book 1, Gnome on the RangeAmazon)

Veronica is Violet’s twin. Veronica is the heroine in her own novel.

( Book 2, Plumb CrazyAmazon)

Give these novels a try!

The writing was quirky, fun, and upbeat. A delightful read. The novel reads like a pinball machine. Readers, this novel just pings and dings all over the place. Each page and chapter contained a new surprise! The novel begins in Montana, then takes the reader to the wilds of Alaska. Where their are bears, moose, and king salmon, Oh My!

The main reason I liked this novel and recommend it to others is due to the fact I feel a kinship with the heroine, Violet. This reviewer also has a background in Elementary Education and has had dreams of  being a writer. Violet is 29 when she reconnects with her crush. I married at 29. Not to my crush. Though in high school I did crush on a Todd. Violet had a boyfriend at one time names Todd. Violet did have a few boyfriends and date. Though she had more in her fictional background, than I did in my real life. Like Violet I care what others think of me and am the quiet, mannerly type. Yet, in love and romance I like to be naughty. I enjoyed my read about Violet, I could understand her emotions throughout the novel.

Writing was concise, easily read, full of adventure and plot twists. The beginning of the read and ending of the read complimented one another.

SmileyLOL01

No Tears for me in this novel. Just giggles… Definitely a fun read. Just wait till you read about Violet and Mike in the mud, Jefferson the dogs favorite activity, and Goldie (owner of the adult store) is just one Hoot after another!!!

pizap.com10.36631266865879313890299697033.5 Romance Rave

Romance is hot and heavy with the hero and heroine, when it does occur. Liar, Liar Hearts on Fire, is filled with innuendo. Plus the fact, that anything can come out of Goldie’s mouth! One can read this read and might be only mildly get their modesty shocked. Perhaps it will spice up that said modesty 😉

My favorite part was how Violet kept describing her book as, word porn! In comparison this novel is not word porn, but  it doesn’t leave much to the imagination either. Zane somehow writes to make even mud and fishing sexy…

After reading this novel, my analogy of the romance would be summed up into one word, fishing.

The hero and heroine end up both being ‘lured’ into realizing that the two are meant to be together.

Synopsis

A promise to keep….

Honoring her mother’s last wish, Lane Channing vows to follow her dreams. She takes the ‘big risk’ and leaves her small Kansas town behind and heads to LA, the city of dreams. She’s got a stellar job lined up, an old jeep, and 20 bucks to last her to her first paycheck. Her hopes shatter when she arrives to find her job’s been given to someone else.  Now she’s broke and will soon be living on the

streets if she doesn’t do something fast. Welcome to cutthroat – Lane is most certainly not in Kansas anymore.

On the cusp of success…

Dillon MacAvoy has one goal–to become a star–whatever it takes. Even if it means honing his bad-boy can’t-be-tamed-and-forever-single image. Besides the image isn’t far from the truth. Dillon cares only about his younger brother and his career. He’s on the brink of superstardom if he can just decide on the next right script. But for that, he needs a script reader he can trust.

In a strange twist of fate…

Lane Channing is Dillon’s last chance. If Lane lasts the summer without becoming MacAvoy’s latest conquest, she’s guaranteed a job in entertainment. No problem, as long as she can ignore the heat that pulses through her every time Dillon is in the room. After all, love and commitment with a sweet, hometown girl would only ruin the Dillon MacAvoy brand.

Special Excerpts Provided by Author

Excerpt 1
My eyes fluttered open. I kicked my foot out from under the comforter on my bed. I’d had trouble falling asleep when I got back to the house. I flipped over my cell phone and glanced at the time—it was 2:07 a.m.and I was wide-awake.
Kong lay curled up on the pillow beside me while Scorsese and Spielberg slept at the foot of my bed. Bernie lay lengthwise beside me like a human. I ran my hand across Bernie’s thick fur. My heart hurt. Last week I’d felt bad for Dillon. I’d felt bad that he was trapped in a horrible place between his parents and his brother. Parents who, from what it sounded like, wouldn’t accept Choo for who he was, but yet still wanted to be a part of Dillon’s life.
         But tonight?
Tonight I didn’t feel bad for Dillon. I felt angry and hurt and shocked at how intense all my feelings were. There were two Dillons and I kept ping-ponging between them. There was the guy who’d humiliated me when I was lost and then made me feel embarrassed again tonight. Frustration spiked through my chest as the feeling of embarrassment flooded through me with the two memories.
Then there was the other Dillon. The guy who’d rescued four dogs. The guy who smiled and gave me the keys to his car. The guy who was sexy as hell and seemed interested in what I had to say. That was the Dillon my heart hurt for. That was the Dillon I wanted to know and be around. That Dillon seemed to pop out, be wildly nice, and then immediately disappear. Maybe I was lucky that the sweet version of Dillon wasn’t around more. The jerky version I could work for and ignore.
He wasn’t someone who wanted a relationship. Already, I’d seen him with a multitude of different women. Dillon MacAvoy wanted me to walk his dogs and read his scripts. I brushed a stray hair back from my forehead. Something about Dillon pressed hard against my heart. I was drawn to him. When he’d grabbed my arm tonight, heat had jolted through me. When he’d whispered in my ear, even with the awful words he said, I still couldn’t catch my breath with him so near. I wanted to kiss him. I wanted to feel those giant hands on my body, stroking over me where no one had stroked before.
         “Oh, yessss.”
A moan drifted up from the yard. When I’d gotten home, I’d taken two ibuprofen and pulled open my balcony doors before I’d gone to bed. I’d hoped the fresh air would cool my body and my mind.
         “Please, yesss.”
My heart clenched and I scrunched my eyes closed. A hard, sick feeling lodged in my belly. The voice was female. There was only one man in this house who could cause a woman to moan like that.
         “Yes, please, Dillon. Please.”
I didn’t want to hear this. I couldn’t stand to hear this. I slid my foot to the floor beneath my bed. I wouldn’t look. Looking would be so bad. I pressed forward across the floor to the balcony doors. I would pull the doors closed and then please, hopefully, I wouldn’t have to hear the things I definitely didn’t want to hear.
I placed my hand on the knob of the door, but instead of pulling the door closed, my body moved forward. My heart accelerated as though it would burst through my ribs. What would I see? My foot stepped out on to the balcony. Every good part of me screamed don’t do it, don’t look down, but every part that was curious had to peer over the balcony. I had to see.
I looked over the edge. The pool lights were on and an aqua glow lit the yard. The girl with the long black hair was bent over the outdoor lounger. Her eyes were closed and her mouth was open. Her tongue flicked over her lips as soft, deep moans flowed from her mouth. Pleasure rushed across her face. She was naked. Barebacked. Her breasts rocked rhythmically and her ink-black hair fell to the side of her face.
Behind her was Dillon. His hands clasped her naked waist with a tight grip. My fingertips covered my mouth. His face was clenched and his head rolled from side to side as he pumped his body into her. The muscles of his chest glistened. His biceps tightened. He threw his head back and opened his eyes.
Our gazes locked. His blue eyes seared through me—I was frozen. I couldn’t move. Heat surged through me while my eyes were anchored to him. Heat that pooled in my belly and between my legs. My heart pounded. The world tilted with the thought that burst into my brain.
I wanted to be that girl.
A growl coursed over his lips as he pumped into her and stared at me. Tingles cascaded over my skin. I wanted Dillon to strain and growl and be inside me. I’d never been any of that to any man, but I wanted to be that for Dillon.
I watched as she moaned and pressed backward. I watched as he thrust hard into her.
         “Yes, yes!” the girl yelled.
The sound of her voice broke my trance. I jumped backward into the darkness of my room. I shouldn’t have watched. I shouldn’t want this.

Excerpt 2
I might have been straight out of the fly-over states, but I wasn’t a moron. I definitely didn’t appreciate the looks or the attitude being shot my way. I stood in the center of the human resources department in my new suit and my new heels with my new bag and my new haircut, expecting to start my new job.
“What do you mean my job is gone?” My fingertips tingled and my heart jolted in my chest. I stared wide-eyed at the blonde behind the human resources desk. She settled her chin on her hand. She looked bored. My problem was definitely not her problem. A part of me wanted to reach over and shake her.
“A client needed a summer internship for his brother.”
“But you have something else for me, right?” My voice grew louder as the idea of what was going down sank into my brain. “I just drove two thousand miles for a summer job.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “I need the money.”
Her eyes slitted and she tilted her head. “It’s an internship,” she said. “You don’t get paid for an internship in entertainment.” Her eyes roamed over me and my sixty-dollar suit like I was a hick from Hicksville, USA. When was the last time this little girl had ever paid for anything on her own? Her HR assistant gig wasn’t paying for those Loubies on her feet, which were peeking out from under her desk. Damn, those were some great-looking shoes.
“What kind of company doesn’t pay a person for summer work?” I asked.
“The kind of company that gets five thousand résumés a week.” She rolled her eyes toward the ceiling as though she was educating a Neanderthal and not someone who’d just locked down her third year of college. She resettled her gaze on me. “Who do you even know to get in here?” she asked as though there had been some tragic mistake other than CTA giving away my internship to some overindulged rich kid and me believing my internship would be paid.
Who did I even know? I cocked my hip to the side and sucked in my cheeks. Little Miss Attitude was not so great at HR. “A friend of my mom referred me,” I said. “But I nailed the Skype interview.”
“Who’s your mom?” She twisted her blond extensions between her finger and thumb, suddenly interested that maybe I was somebody she should know.
A piece of my heart broke with the word mom on her lips. Who was my mom? She was my world—had been my entire world—with her wild, curly golden hair and bright blue eyes, eyes that always seemed to smile even when things were remarkably bad. Tiny pinpricks of heat started at the backs of my eyes and I swallowed and forced myself to concentrate on the entitled girl in front of me.
“That’s not important.” I cleared my throat and looked around the gray room full of cubicles. “Is there anyone else I can talk to? You know, about a real job?”
I’d rolled into L.A. on gas fumes and grabbed a bed and a shower in a Best Western. I didn’t know a soul in Los Angeles. I had approximately seventy dollars to last me until my first paycheck, and I dearly hoped one of my coworkers needed a roommate for the summer. Call me a gambler, call me a risk-taker, call me crazy—I’d been called worse—but when I found out I’d gotten the gig for the summer at CTA, the biggest entertainment agency in L.A., I didn’t think twice about hitting the road from Lawrence for my opportunity of a lifetime. Especially after the hell of the past year. The only problem was that it appeared that my “opportunity of a lifetime” had evaporated.
“You can talk to Nancy,” the blonde said and jerked her head toward the door. “She’s the head of HR, but she won’t have anything for you either. Not if you need money.”
A flush blossomed on my neck and bloomed on my cheeks. Who didn’t need money? Oh, right, rich kids with trust funds and parents that stole other kids’ jobs. Yes, I was one of those people that needed money. No daddy to bail my ass out, no mama with a trust fund to pay for my entire life. I had to actually work and get paid to have clothes, a car, a place to live, and even school.
“Take a seat. I’ll see if she has time.”
Half a day later, after meeting with two other people, both of whom seemed grandly perplexed that I would assume my internship was paid, I had no job, no internship, and in twenty-four hours most likely no place to stay.

Currently I am on Chapter 19 of 27 in the novel, Hard Glamour by Maggie Marr. This book has me so sucked in at this point of the story. At this point I have no idea how the story will end. Will the Hero and Heroine fall in love or just enjoy the summer and then go their separate ways? Looking forward to finishing the book and especially the sneak peek at the next novel in the series, Broken Glamour at the very end of , Hard Glamour!

Time to go back to Reading 🙂
