Their First Meeting
The pretty, young host escorts me to a table for two near a window with panoramic water vistas. Within minutes, a server takes my order. As my café latté arrives, I can’t help but overhear a rude exchange between a man and his leggy blonde with the host that escorted me to my seat.
“Look, I reserved that exact seat yesterday,” he says.
“I apologize sir, but that seat is not available,” the host replies.
“Well, if you were doing your job in the first place, it would be available to me, wouldn’t it?”
“Sir, I’m sorry for the error, but it wasn’t written here. If you like, you can wait at the bar where I’ll be happy to serve you a complimentary beverage of your choice while you wait, or I can accommodate you at an available table now.”
I can’t help but look to see who this asshole is.
Everything about him smells of money. From the designer jeans that hug his ass, all the way to the Jaeger Reverso watch that graces his wrist. He’s hot—probably in his mid to late thirties, tall, broad shoulders, piercing grey eyes, and a head of black hair like I’ve never seen.
Ordinarily, I might have found him attractive, if only he would just shut up.
Everything he says to that poor young girl, who has tried so hard to rectify someone else’s mistake, pisses me off. He’s been nothing but rude and condescending. As I look up, my eyes land straight on his. Then I realize they’re all looking my way. I turn around to look behind me, but there is no one. Then it dawns on me that he’s arguing with the host about my seat.
My meal arrives. I mind my business, and I proceed to enjoy it. Before I know it, I see him approaching my table. I pretend not to notice and focus all my attention on my lemon ricotta pancakes before me, but within seconds, he stands beside me.
“Excuse me, my name is Jonathan Kole. Would you mind terribly if you were seated elsewhere?”
My eyes travel across my pancakes to his broad thighs, to his crotch, and to what I suspect is an extremely trimmed stomach beyond his black ribbed sweater. Then I stare into his grey eyes in silence.
“You see, my girlfriend and I met right here at this table a year ago, and I wanted to propose to her.
Here. Today.”
“Actually, Jonathan, I do mind. Seeing that I’m enjoying my meal, surely you wouldn’t mind waiting until I’m done. Or perhaps you can let that polite host, who has done everything possible to accommodate you, have you seated elsewhere.”
“Do you have any idea who I am?” he asks.

“No. You could be the king of England and I wouldn’t give a damn.”
“Who the hell do you think you are?”
“You really want to know?” I ask quietly.
He lowers his head slightly, as if he’s seriously interested.
“I am a woman who walked in on her fiancé screwing her best friend one week before her wedding, so forgive me if I’m not in a sentimental mood.”
His mouth drops open at my response.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, Mr. Kole, I’d really like to enjoy my brunch.”
His piercing grey eyes are glaring into mine. I know he’s angry. His temple pulsates as he stares at me. He walks away completely flushed.
I don’t care. Perhaps if he had been nicer to that host I would have considered his request. However, because he comes from money doesn’t give him the right to speak to people any which way he wishes.
I continue to enjoy my meal and notice him walking hand in hand to the bar with Malibu Barbie. Half an hour later, I ask for the check then purposely make him wait an additional five minutes before I leave.
On the way out, the host looks at me bright-eyed. “No one ever speaks to Mr. Kole that way, Miss McLean.”
“Well, it’s time someone taught him some manners,” I reply. I hand her a healthy tip, and I’m on my way.

We finish lunch and watch a movie and some football, complete with popcorn and soda. When the sun starts its descent, we head to the hot tub. I am a little nervous. I hope I don’t gawk at him again. I slip into a little white bikini, wrap myself in a robe, and head out.
When I get onto the terrace, I try to ignore the fact that ass-hugging Ralph Lauren trunks cling to every inch of his well-endowed front… and back. He steps into the tub, and after I tear my robe away, he stretches out his hand and helps me in. I have no idea what I was thinking when I agreed to this. With this book I pushed myself, and tried to blow everything I knew I was guilty of with my first book (at least during the writing phase), out the park. My aim was to make the reader and my mentor, laugh and cry. I want readers to feel happy and sad, and at times I want them to feel angry—I want them to experience what the characters feel.
I’ve always had the most difficult time being funny in my writing and it was something I really strived to do in certain parts of this book. I think I’ve succeeded—it’s up to bookworms out there to decide J. I’m silly, I laugh at my own jokes and depending on my husband to tell me if something was funny or not in a romance novel, was a complete waste of time.
He always gave the same blah response, “It’s cute.”
Not necessarily what you want to hear when attempting to write a funny scene.
The scenes where I wanted to evoke tears were the most difficult however. I had to get myself in “the zone”. That meant privacy, quiet, soft or no music, then I’d put myself in my characters shoes and I’d imagine how they’d feel.
In some instances, it was as simple as going back to a sad time in my life, but in others, I used my own fears— how I thought I would react in a given situation to write those scenes. I thought if I felt what the characters did; it would translate to the readers too. When I found myself bawling while my fingertips scrambled across the keyboard, I truly believed I would succeed in roping the reader in.
My aim was to keep readers engaged from page one all the way to the very end. Love, Lies & The D.A. will take people through a myriad of emotions—from lighthearted moments, to intense situations, from close encounters to steamy love scenes. Readers will laugh, and they will cry. I hope they thoroughly enjoy the heartwarming and sometimes heart-wrenching journey that Jada and Jonathan go through as they turn through the pages of my book.

Rebecca Rohman is a wife and designer currently living in the Northeastern United States. She was a Sales Manager for a tourist magazine, and for many years prior, she was involved in marketing for a jewelry company, and later for a fine wine distributor.

About The Author
Melissa Rolka grew up in the Chicagoland area all of her childhood and has always had a love of writing. She started by keeping a journal at a young age and then in high school she started writing poetry. A couple poems were published anonymously. Then in college she majored in Philosophy, which required lots and lots of writing. After graduating from Marquette University she traveled west to Los Angeles. There she worked for the Writers Guild of America and found herself submerged in the writers world. She worked on small writings, but never pursued them. On the side she became involved with a small theater group. Eventually she made her way back to the Midwest, where her heart belongs, and worked in business for several years. She found love, got married and has two beautiful children. Being at home has allowed her to keep following her love of reading and writing.

As soon as I stepped through the door and into the kitchen, Ian grabbed me and pushed me up against the wall, holding my arms above my head. “Don’t turn your back on me, Rory. I’m sorry. I don’t think you’re trash. I think you’re broken and I can fix you,” he whispered in my ear.
His hot breath traveled down my neck and my body went into a near convulsion. I wanted him, but I knew if anything were to happen, it would destroy me. I would become too emotionally attached and when he got tired of me and moved on, I wouldn’t recover. He brought his face to mine as he stared into my eyes.
“I’m not broken. I’m shattered. I’m a million tiny pieces that would take longer than forever to piece back together. So please, do me the favor and don’t even try,” I whispered.
His grip on my arms lightened as he let go and took a step back, giving me one last look before he turned around and walked away. I stood and placed my hand on my neck where his hot breath had touched me. I took in a deep breath and walked upstairs. Tomorrow was the day I start my life over, alone.

“I lied to you,” I told her. “About how all I ever wanted was to be loved.”
“Why?” Emma asked, her eyes tightening at the sting of my admission.
“Because the truth is that all I ever wanted was…”
“Tell me!”
“All I ever wanted was to be loved by [YOU].”
She rolled her eyes and turned away, as if trying to hide her grin from me. I knew she couldn’t block me from her heart forever, and her reaction proved it.
“So, can we [make love] now?” I asked, and that was when she punched me.
I headed upstairs with Emma on my heels. She commented on the family photos on the stairway wall, the color of the second floor landing, the carpet’s thick under-padding, the layout, how clean my house was (yes, I spent all day yesterday tidying up and figuring out how to turn the vacuum cleaner on). I chalked up her chatter to nervousness.
“Here’s Evelyn’s room.” I pushed the door open and waved her inside.
“I can’t sleep in that,” she said, pointing to the Barbie-racecar toddler bed.
I shrugged. “Then I guess you’ll have to cuddle up next to me in mine.”
I didn’t believe the words because her eyes told a different story; sure they were closed, but that didn’t mean anything. I placed her gently on the bed, made sure her head was cozy on the pillow, then told her I’d be right back.
“Don’t leave me,” she slurred. She spoke slowly, the alcohol running thick through her veins by now.
So I cozied up on the bed beside her.
“Hold my hand, Morgan.”
I slid my fingers between hers (they fit perfectly), watching her while the alcohol slowly robbed what was arguably my best and only chance at getting laid before flying back home tomorrow.

4 roses for originality and a bit of romance
What a great little read, I gobbled it up in one sitting. The characters were real, their conversations witty, humorous, catty, and sarcastic. In the end it left me wanting a “Morgan” of my very own.
Morgan is a man going through the motions of being an average corporate accountant making ends meat in a loveless marriage. In a blink of an eye, he loses everything, his wife, his child, his habit and his routine. It wakes him up to what his life has become, what he has become.
Morgan is newly divorced and more than a little lonely. He proceeds to get “tech-savvy”, and gains insight into the social media world. He needs female companionship and most definitely some form of human contact. He buys an iPhone hoping to experience such a relationship by text messaging.
“The last time I’d been single, folks didn’t send text messages – not unless they had a label maker. And even then, it never got you laid. Not like text messages today.”
Morgan picks up a recommended book in this particular field, reads it and immediately knows it‘s bogus. It does not work. The only thing he got out of it was that any idiot can write a book. So he does, he writes a novel based entirely on text messaging. Sextual Encounters went viral and with the help of Social Media today, his story was deemed ‘Brilliant, Amazing, and Unique’, a “Brilliant Love Story.” Within a month it hit the Top 100 list of Amazon’s Romance Bestsellers.

This is how Morgan meets his biggest fan, Emma. She sends him a fan-based package and Morgan feels an instant connection, or at least his body does. She was exactly the kind of burn he wanted to feel and the perfect distraction he needed. Included is a message that feels like fate for it was written by an authentic label maker.

In the end, I think Morgan and Emma truly fell for one another, however there are certain things in our lives that need to have some sort of closure in order to start over or start anew. Morgan is struggling to find happiness and forgiveness, he tries to fill an empty void through writing, fame, and an exciting new romance. Emma is still uncertain about the direction of her own failing marriage and trying to raise her own family.
“I loved you for everything. Your successes and intelligence as well as your failures. I loved you just like you said you loved me, but I loved you more. I wrote a novel about you – Oliver, Olivia, it’s all you, one hundred percent you.”

Worth the Chance, was an interesting romance novel. There were friendships, rivalry’s, romance along with a little mystery and thrills. The hero, Vince, is all male. He has strength and will power, both in and out of the fighting cage. Growing up Vince basically looked after himself, and did what he could for his mother. A mother he loved and hated. The only male role model in Vince’s life is Nico. Nico owns a gym and is retired from MMA fighting when readers meet him in, Worth the Chance. Vince does not always make the best decisions about his own life, but Nico is there to encourage and straighten him out when necessary.
Worth the Chance is the second novel in Keeland’s MMA Fighters Series. Worth the Fight, Nico and Elle’s story, is the first book in the series. Worth the Chance, can be read as a stand alone (I did). However, I really recommend that you read them in order. For in book 1, the reader is introduced to a much younger Vince. In Worth the Fight, readers can see the relationsip between Vince and Nico grow and evolve into what it is in, Worth the Chance.
The romance, well you will just have to read to find out the history between the hero and the heroine of this novel. The flashbacks at the beginning of the novel help readers to understand this said history. This history is important to the romance and love aspect for the hero and heroine as the story progresses.
LOOK for, Worth Forgiving, the third and last novel in the series coming Summer 2014.

3.5 Rosebuds of Writing Raves
Overall I liked the idea of the story. It just left me with a lot of questions. Like, if Liv and Vince lived in the same city why did it take them seven years to meet up again? Vince grew up with a mother with a drug habit. So when he hurt his arm previous from the start of the novel, why did he get hooked? Maybe it is easier said then done. My favorite character is Ally in the novel. She really livens up the conversations in the novel. Only I never understood how old she was, if she had a job or not, and also why she did’t drive. Then at the end, Liv told her she could use her car until she returned to Chicago. The flow of dates and times confused me throughout the novel. For instance, at one point Liv visits the gym to talk to Vince. Then later Nico says something to Vince in regards to the visitor he had. It had just happened that day, yet Nico refers to his wife talking about Liv all ‘last night’. When to me it seemed it was all that same day that Elle met Liv, and the Nico is asking Vince about it while he is working out/practicing on the punching bag. Also there are several spelling errors. Such as; door creeked instead of, door creaked. Otherwise, as mentioned above, I liked the story. The romance was sweet, and both the hero and heroine had situations that required important consideration.
2.5 Teardrops.
The romance was so sweet and emotional in this story. A love that began in high school, yet never mentioned between the hero and heroine. Then seven years later they show up in the same place at the same time. One wants to just get away as stay away, so there is no chance of getting hurt again. While the other never wants to let the go ever again. So while there was no ugly crying, there were some tears blurring my reading vision.
4.0 Romance Rave
The first page gives readers a glimpse into how Vince goes through women. Which is much like how women like to buy shoes, a new pair as often as possible. Until he sees someone from his past. Vince likes to be in control. Even when it comes to sex. Readers get a better understanding of this in the flashbacks. Yet, when he finally breaks the wall down from around Liv’s heart, He has to control himself in order to make passion more meaningful to Liv. Though he does like to let go with her too. And she loves every bit of it. You will just have to read the novel to see just how much she likes it. Not to mention the thoughts the two had for each other when they were teenagers. HOT STUFF!!!
4 out of 5 read-ologists recommend this WordPress.com site. ups and downs of writer's insanity and day to day life. I will write whatever makes the voices happy, for a writer that ignores her inner voices is merely a mental breakdown waiting to happen. Keeping the voices happy and creating new worlds for them to play in is my main goal.
