Where the Blame Lies

by Mia Sheridan

Abducted.
Terrorized.
Imprisoned.

At nineteen-years-old, college student Josie Stratton was kidnapped by a madman and held shackled for ten months in an abandoned warehouse before she finally escaped her hellish prison.

Eight years later, when the body of a young woman is found chained in the basement of a vacant house, Cincinnati Police Detective Zach Copeland is instantly reminded of the crime committed against Josie Stratton. Zach was just a rookie on the perimeter of that case, but he’s never forgotten the traumatized woman with the haunted eyes.

As more information emerges, the crimes take on an even more sinister similarity. But Josie’s attacker died by suicide. Does the city have a copycat on its hands? A killer who picked up where the original perpetrator left off? Or are they facing something far more insidious?

Josie has spent the last eight years attempting to get her life back on track, but now there’s a very real chance she could be the unknown suspect’s next target. As Zach vows to keep her safe, and Josie finds herself responding to him in a way she hasn’t responded to any man in almost a decade, the investigation takes on an even more complex edge of danger.

As past and present collide, Josie and Zach are thrust toward a shocking and chilling truth. A revelation that threatens not only Josie’s life, but everything she’s been fighting so desperately to reclaim.

Casus belli !!

Where the Blame Lies

First this is not Mia Sheridan’s old school romance, angsty, emotional, and heart throb feels —- No, nope and not at all.  This is the DARK SIDE and I can NOT get enough!  Come to the dark side my book ho’s!

There’s a fantastic cast, the characters were all easy to like, the storyline flowed continuesly, and the tears fell frequently, and the scenery written enhanced all the senses.

Mia Sheridan held nothing back pouring her emotions in true grit and raw form.  Trust me this true crime thriller is full of real life calamity, the scenes were raw, the characters portrayed great suffering, affliction and distress.  All of these emotions but most of all this is a story of survival, rising above and success.

Josie Stratton is the heroine and I do mean that in the literally sense, she is the survivor and she dominates in her supremacy.  The trial and tribulations she went through are no joke and sometimes hard to read, but in the end she rose above the darkness, fought to stay alive, and stayed the course.  She continued to live the dream, got a job, keeping a farm home, meeting friends and might have found actual love.

Zach and his partner Jimmy are on copy-cat murder/aduction case similiar to Josie’s, Zach was one on the responding officers to her crime about 8 years earlier.  I think these two souls might have imprinted at the time, who can tell with such horrors coming to light, but I got the feeling in Mia Sheridan’s talented fingers.

I really cannot say anything further except I loved all of the characters in this poignant suspenseful thriller and the romantic suspense is highly addictive.  But wait.. I have to say the twist at the end is a free fall into, um.. I’m not sure, I kinda liked the bad guy… dam me.

Book Review! *~* Dear Ava *~* by Ilsa Madden-Mills

DEAR AVA

BY Ilsa Madden-Mills

a gripping enemies-to-lovers, secret admirer, high school romance.

The rich and popular Sharks rule at prestigious, ivy-covered Camden Prep. Once upon a time, I wanted to be part of their world–until they destroyed me.

The last thing I expected was an anonymous love letter from one of them.

Please. I hate every one of those rich jerks for what they did to me. The question is, which Shark is my secret admirer?

Knox, the scarred quarterback.
Dane, his twin brother.
Or Chance, the ex who dumped me. . .

Dear Ava,
Your eyes are the color of the Caribbean Sea.
Wait. That’s stupid.
What I really mean is, you look at me and I feel something REAL.

It’s been ten months since you were here, but I can’t forget you.
I’ve missed seeing you walk down the hall.
I’ve missed you cheering at my football games.
I’ve missed the smell of your hair.

And then everything fell apart the night of the kegger.

Don’t hate me because I’m a Shark.
I just want to make you mine.
Still.

Definitely was not expecting the amount of emotion the author delicately portrayed in this intensely rich drama about real life problems.  This super charged poignant tale read like an auto biography, a thriller, a suspense, and an angsty romance.  The connection between characters was instantaneous and unexpected, I felt like a friend to each one of these people, adults as well as young adults.  The fact that the author had the versatility to write about this highly sensitive and taboo topic was epic to the extreme.  Ilsa Madden-Mills put a sharp and immediate emphasis on spreading awareness of abuse on all genders.

The Heroine, and I do mean heroine, Ava is a literal survivor, a true slayer and the epitome of a fighter.  I have never fell for a female character as I did for this beautiful soul and all I did throughout this thought-provoking tale was scream out loud, NO, DON’T HURT HER, NOT HER!

The charming hero, Knox was utterly divine in his alpha protective role but not just to females, no his course was for all friends and especially FAMILY.

The attention to detail the author pens about mental illness, physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual abuse is something that will stick with you for all times.  AND I THANK YOU, Ilsa Madden-Mills FOR THIS!

Release Day Blitz! ~*~ Layers of Her ~*~ by Prescott Lane

layers of her - release day.jpg

A Letter to my Readers

Rape. Just typing that word makes my gut tie up in knots. And that’s part of the problem.

Because it’s so uncomfortable, we don’t want to talk about it. So it gets buried at the bottom the newsfeed or forgotten altogether, like the backlog of untested rape kits.

Last March, I released Quiet Angel in which the heroine is a survivor of childhood sexual assault.

A few weeks later, my husband became gravely ill, and we spent the rest of the year (5 long

hospital stays and 4 long surgeries) fighting to regain his health. As I sat in the hospital chair

next to his bed night after night, I got messages from women about how my book touched them.

Some shared their reasons, and others didn’t.

I came to learn that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. How could I not know that? just released a book on the very topic. Yet I didn’t see one post about it on any of my social

media accounts.

Early this year, I began writing Layers of Her with the intent to spread awareness and donate of April’s profits to charity. I was nervous when I started, and I still am. I mean, how much the profits be? Will readers assume I’m a survivor or I know one? Will I do the topic justice?

Why am I doing this? It’s a whole lot easier to stay silent. But that’s the whole problem, isn’t I work in a field, in the genre of fiction, that is mostly comprised of women, where sexual assault

is one of the most common tropes. And with each passing page, we pull for our broken heroes

and heroines to heal, find love, forge a new path. That’s all we want for them. We need to do same for the real life heroes and heroines, those brave souls who fight the real fight every single

day. So join me this April in making some noise to raise awareness, not only for the survivors

but for those who love them.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

People always say it’s what’s on the inside that matters. If that’s the case, I’m screwed. On the outside, everything looks put together — blonde hair, blue eyes, tall and lean. By society’s standards, I’d be considered attractive. But f*ck society, I know what I am. I know what I’m made of. The recessive genes that reared their heads and created a decent looking package on the outside don’t make me who I am. What about all the evil lurking inside? What about all the other parts of me that aren’t so easy to see? Some of the most beautiful animals are also the deadliest. Take the polar bear, for example. Cute and cuddly on the outside, but it’s really a predator that will bite your f*cking head off. That’s a dangerous combination.

And that’s exactly like me, exactly who I am. Bad — and once you go bad, you can never go back.

WARNING: This book deals with the harsh reality of rape that could be upsetting for some readers.

AP new - excerpt.jpg

“What made you come for me?” she asks.  I tell her my theory about men making decisions based on one of three body parts — head, heart, dick.  “So which led you to my house tonight?” she asks.

“Let’s just say two out of three ain’t bad.”

Her giggle fills up the room.  “Stone?”

“Hmm?”

“Don’t let me forget.”

“Forget what?”

“How good I feel right now,” she says.

I know exactly what she’s feeling.  She doesn’t think she deserves to be happy.  It’s a constant waiting on the other shoe to drop so you can prove to yourself that all the bad shit you fill your head with is true.  That you’re bad, and that’s why bad things happen around you, or to those you love.  Dealt with that myself when Tate got her diagnosis.  Who am I kidding?  I still fight those demons, knowing she’s suffering because of my mistakes.  Self-blame is a bitch.  Self-hatred is even worse.  Guess I’ll just have to teach Campbell to love herself as much as I love her.

Yeah, yeah, it’s fast.  But how long does it really take to fall in love with someone?  A minute?  An hour?  A day?  A year?  For me, it took exactly one kiss.  The moment her lips touched mine in that hospital room, I was gone.

Besides, what do you really have to know about a person to love them?  Not a damn thing other than how they make you feel when you close your eyes at the end of the day with them wrapped in your arms.
