BOOK SYNOPSIS

Nothing is as it seems…

Everything Isadora Starling wants is right there in front of her, but Toryn is off limits. He’s her best friend. She’s been denying her heart all these years, afraid to lose him.

Toryn Flame has a long past full of secrets. None of which he can share with Isadora, the only person who truly matters to him. She’s the one woman who has never shown a hint of lust toward him, but even if she did, pursuing her is forbidden.

That all changes when the family Isa doesn’t know decides it’s time to reveal who and what she is. After Isa’s recent attack, their motives are unclear.

His only goal is protecting Isa. Toryn will do everything in his power to keep her safe, including going against orders from his king.

Toryn’s only fear is losing Isa’s trust. Once the truth is revealed, can she forgive him for years of misdirection and omissions? Can she come to terms with a world she doesn’t want or know?

EXCERPT

Pounding music flowed over Isadora Starling as she walked into her bar, Shenanigans. Only one thing was on her mind, finding someone who would take her home and rock her world. She was smoking hot and she knew it.
Taking note of every man whose head turned in her direction, she emphasized the already-seductive sway of her hips as she sashayed to the bar with purpose. As usual, her eyes kept drifting back to the only man in the place who made her mouth water. Unfortunately, her best friend was not on the menu.
She slid into a booth and turned toward her business partner, Lana, one of the few women she truly trusted.
Lana’s molten silver eyes landed on her. A smirk twisted her lips. “Back so soon?”
Isa lifted a shoulder in a shrug before stating, “I’m on a mission.”
Perusing the sultry make-up and her come-ravish-me outfit, Lana snorted. “I can see that. What are you drinking?”
“Double Grey Goose, straight up.”
“One of those nights?” There was a grimace on her face.
Isa responded with a one fingered salute before turning back to the crowd with the intention of finding a man.
Lana cut in with, “I still think you should drag him home and get each other out of your systems.”
By him, she meant Isa’s best friend, Toryn Flame. More than gorgeous, he was fucking beautiful, masculine perfection. His dazzling blue topaz eyes were lined in guyliner, not that his eyes needed any help attracting attention with his ten-mile long lashes. Silky black hair was teased up in a sexy tousle calling to her fingers. The man was a sex god, in snug leather pants and half-buttoned black silk shirt open far enough to display his sculpted chest and the beginning of washboard abs.
Forbidden, though she had a never-ending supply of fantasies starring Toryn. The current was her craving to lick every ridge of muscle on her way down to the golden zipper straining over an impressive bulge she wished she could ignore.
They were firmly stuck in the friend zone. He didn’t see her that way, and despite the fact he was sensuality walking, she wasn’t supposed to want him.
Frustrated, she turned back to Lana with a cold stare. “Have you forgotten he prefers men? Last time I checked,” she looked down and shook her tits for emphasis, “I have all the wrong parts. Besides, he’s my friend, my best friend and he,” she glanced back to watch Toryn tongue-fuck his boytoy, “is all over his man, Leon.”
One scarlet brow rose in challenge. “Bullshit, I’ve seen him take women home.”
“Please, when was the last time? Tiffany? And that rare occurrence was over a year ago.”
Lana’s mouth dropped open, “Oh my god, you are fucking blind, Isadora. He’s only with Leon to distract himself from you.” With a glare, Lana slid the vodka to her.
Isa would give anything for that to be the truth. Forcing the desperate sentiment from her mind, she took the shot in a single gulp, causing Lana to grimace.
Driving her point home, Isa nodded back to the two hottest men in the place. “Toryn is with Leon. Has been for nearly two months, which is some kind of record for him.”
Actually, they had been dating exactly seven weeks, which was damn near a miracle. Aside from Leon, he hadn’t been with a single person more than twice since she’d met him nearly ten years ago. Somehow his lack of commitment made her want him all the more. She always loved a challenge, and secretly wished she could be the one to snare him permanently.
Of course, if she told Lana she was counting the days Toryn stayed with Leon, it would prove her point. A point Isa was going to deny until her desire finally died.
With a devilish smirk, Lana shrugged. “He’d dump him for you in a heartbeat.”
A glance back at Toryn easily reminded her how wrong Lana was. Toryn was grinding his hips into Leon who was hungrily kissing down Toryn’s throat. They were too hot and heavy for their public display of sexual chemistry to merely be a distraction.
“Then why is he taking Leon home tonight? And don’t tell me he’s not. Do you see them?” Isadora pointed back at them with a wicked grin. It was a gorgeous sight.
Licking her lips and watching like every other woman, and most of the men, in the nearly anything goes bar, she nodded. “Oh, I do, but you don’t see the way he looks at you. Like he’s making love to you with his eyes. When you aren’t watching Toryn, he always stares at you.”
Lana filled the shot glass.
In all the years they’d been friends, Toryn had never made a move, so Lana was wrong, very depressingly wrong. Isa slammed back the second dose and glared back at Lana. “You’re full of shit. Pour me another.”
“I’m not. I still say you’re fucking blind,” Lana taunted as she refilled the glass. “If he wasn’t so hung up on you, I would make a move on him.”
That hurt.
Wait… what? Hung up on me? Yeah, might need to have her committed.
Isa took another glance at Toryn and Leon, then grinned at Lana. “If you can pry him from Leon, he’s all yours.”
Thankfully, Lana changed the subject. “Where’s Mike?”
Well-intentioned, maybe, but her new topic wasn’t much better. Isa downed the third shot before answering, “Don’t know. Don’t care. Of course it would be a hell of a lot easier to get laid if he were around.” He was her favorite fallback romp in the sack.
“You torture that poor man. If you’d let him, he’d fall in love with you.”
Which was exactly the reason she hadn’t called and was attempting to avoid him… though in desperate times…
Mentally shaking herself, she quipped, “We don’t work as a couple. Sure, explosive in bed, awesome on the dance floor, but that is where our good chemistry ends. We would drive each other batshit crazy—and I’m not talking about the scorch the sheets way—in a matter of days. Not to mention the fact Roxy hates my fucking guts.”
“Only because you’re stringing her brother along. Plus, she has a valid point. I’m still convinced you fell for Toryn years ago. Like two seconds after you met him.”
She was right, but Isa wasn’t going there. “Go to hell.”
“Only when you join me.”
Isa slid the empty glass at Lana and batted her lashes. “Anyone I should consider?”
With an accusatory glare, she answered, “Plenty of them. Except, don’t take the hot blond home.” She glanced down at the end of the bar for about the hundredth time since Isa sat down.
All Isa saw was the healthy fall of shiny blond hair, way too long and perfect to be on any man’s head.
“I don’t go for blonds.” Isa smirked before turning toward the crowd. Of its own accord, her gaze landed on Toryn, who winked at her.
Lana pulled her back to reality with bite in her tone. “Knowing you, you’ll take him home to spite me.”
Isa spun back around, her hands landing on the counter as her eyes narrowed. “I would not. When was the last time?”
Her eyes narrowed to slits. “Last week, when you took Reese home.”
“Oh,” she shrugged sheepishly, “that hardly counts. You didn’t warn me beforehand. If you had simply told me, I would have found someone else.” It was the truth, Isa never meant to hurt anyone, and especially not her friends. There had been plenty of other options. She honestly hadn’t realized Lana was interested.
“Why don’t I believe you?” she muttered. The question stung. Of course, her payback sucked. Lana turned around and hired the guy the very next day, even after Isa begged her not to.
“I’m not selfish, Lana. I wouldn’t do that to you,” she whined.
“Hmph,” Lana didn’t look convinced, but a smirk formed as she looked over Isa’s shoulder.
Isa fought back a smile as she felt Toryn’s approach. He had a presence she could feel and as much as she hated her weakness, it felt good to have him close. Toryn leaned his long hard body against hers.
Lana grinned as if her point was made.
One corner of Isa’s mouth lifted. “I would be more worried about Toryn taking Blondy home.”
“Bitch,” she gasped.
“Grey Goose?” Toryn licked his full lips as his brow cocked. “One of those nights, Isa?”
Her eyes nearly rolled out of her head, “Okay, everyone stop! I had a long day, and I’m horny as hell. It’s not like I’m driving home. No more judging. Just let me find a man for the night.”
The guy sitting next to her turned with a smile that chilled her blood. His deep blue eyes seemed wrong, his skin too pale, almost blue. She’d seen him before, but couldn’t place where.
Isa glared back. “Not you.”
Amusement danced through his eyes as they dropped to his drink with a chuckle.
Toryn grinned at Lana. “Two Loves and one is for my sweet Isadora.” His eyes held a mischievous sparkle.
Isa snorted. “Is that so?”
“Don’t argue,” he purred in a way that made her want to scratch her nails down his back while riding him into the night.
With a groan, she smiled back at Lana and tossed down enough cash to cover her vodka and the Loves, plus a generous tip. “Where’s Leon?”
Avoiding answering, Toryn quickly finished the drink and placed his empty glass with a purposeful thunk on the counter. “Let’s dance.”
She let the question slide and followed his lead after finishing her cocktail.
Maybe she had a bit too much, too fast, because the world tilted. Still, she managed to walk straight.
“Leon won’t be jealous?”
“Nope, he plans to join us soon.” She could feel his eyes caress down her body and back up. “He told me to tell you that you’re on fire tonight.”
“He always says that.”
He pulled her close and his lips grazed over her ear. “Only because it’s true.”
The warmth of his breath and rumble of his voice only heightened the ache between her legs. Such a damned tease. And if he didn’t do it with everyone, she might think he really felt something for her.

THE AUTHOR AND HER MUSICAL MUSE

What kind of impact does music have on your writing?

Depends how much in the zone I am. I can get to a point where nothing, not even music penetrates the zone. However music can influence my mood, in turn influence my writing. Again, depends on how much I’m paying attention to what’s going on outside my head.

There are a few songs that have inspired whole scenes. For instance, Halestorm’s “I Get Off” is responsible for a scene or two involving Hayden and Amethyst in Shadows of the Past.

Certain songs make me think of certain characters.

I do usually have music going in the background. I just throw everything into a giant playlist and sometimes switch songs if a song isn’t’ working with where I’m going, sometimes I even tune it out. Really, it depends on what I’m working on though.

I am a big music nerd though, so having it on usually helps keep me focused.

Excerpt

Charlie was a parishioner that had lived a couple of blocks from St. Mary’s his entire life. He’d grown up in the neighborhood, married a girl he’d known since 1st grade, Ruby, and they settled in the same apartment building as his parents. Charlie and Ruby were inseparable, not blessed with children, but that did not affect their deep and eternal love for one another. Ruby had died many years before after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Charlie becoming her caregiver in her final days. Father Casey had known the couple well, but Ruby had passed before Father Hugh had arrived. But Charlie had made an impression and Father Hugh loved to visit with him as often as he could. He was in awe of Charlie’s desire to be reunited with his Ruby… to feel her hand in his and see her smile again. It almost made him believe in love.

On this particular day, Charlie now in a nursing home, the phone rang in the nunnery to tell the Sisters that Charlie was nearing the end. He’d asked to see the new nun… the pretty one, and to have Father Hugh come and hear his final confession. Sister Agnes was heartbroken as she informed Sister Meredith of the request. Father Hugh was also saddened to hear that this would be his last time with Charlie, but quickly changed out of his work clothes and waited for Sister Meredith to accompany him to the nursing home.

They drove in silence the short distance and hurried down the white halls to find Charlie propped up in bed, his breathing labored. Sister Meredith took the old man’s hand in hers as she sat by his bed and smiled down at him.

“I’m glad you came,” Charlie smiled. “I wanted your beautiful eyes to be the last thing I saw on this earth.”

“That’s very kind of you,” she blushed. “I’ll stay as long as you’d like.”

“It won’t be long,” the nurse whispered, looking at the monitors.

With a sacred reverence, Father Hugh performed last rites and eased Charlie’s conscience by hearing his confession, all the while refusing to let go of Sister Meredith’s hand. His hand relaxed slightly as he drifted in and out of consciousness and occasionally had a smile on his lips.

“What do you think he’s thinking about?” Sister Meredith asked.

“No clue,” Father Hugh replied.

“You don’t think he’s excited about going to be with Ruby?”

“I guess he might be,” he shrugged.

“You must believe in heaven,” she gasped.

He didn’t answer straight away. There was a sadness to his expression that made her curious.

“You do believe in heaven, don’t you?” she asked again. “Heaven is where we will live for eternity with our families, our loved ones, our pets.”

“I’m sure you will get to have that,” he acknowledged. “You are a good person who deserves to have a heaven. All good people go to heaven.” Like Melanie, he thought to himself.

“I believe they do,” she agreed.

“Just not me,” he whispered to himself.

Sister Meredith didn’t hear him and tilted her head in thought. “What do you think about hell?”

“There is a hell,” he assured her.

“I know what I’m supposed to think about hell, but some days I wonder if it’s as bad as we’re made to think,” she admitted.

“I’m afraid that hell will be knowing that no one in heaven misses me when I don’t arrive. I’ve been a disappointment to my parents, Father Casey, and to God, and nobody in heaven is gonna miss me.”

“No! You are a good man Father Hugh and I cannot imagine you ever being a disappointment.”

“You don’t know me very well then,” he smirked.

Charlie gasped for air, his final breaths difficult. “Ruby,” he smiled and then he was gone.

The monitors beeped, Charlie’s chest exhaled for the last time and a tear fell from Sister Meredith’s cheek. She smiled as she glanced up at the priest, knowing that Charlie and Ruby were together again… in heaven. “They’re happy again.”

Father Hugh just nodded and they left the nursing home, each of them in their own thoughts. Sister Meredith felt a peace at Charlie’s passing, but Father Hugh felt restless and uneasy. As a priest, it was his job to preach of heaven and set the example of how to get there. As a man, he was sure he had no hope of ever reaching eternal glory and presumed he was headed in the opposite direction.

readong, writing book reviews

A Perfect Mistake is the second book in Dawson’s, A Perfect Secret Series. The two books could be read as stand-alone’s, but book 2 may give away a spoiler or two about book 1. Also, certain sayings may pass you by unless you have read book 1, A Perfect Mess and have an idea behind the reference. One good example would be the mention of, Braxton’s  pink frilly apron in book 2. There is a great scene in book 1 where he is wearing said apron. But, that is all I am going to say about that, you will just have to read it to catch my meaning…

A Perfect Mistake, is set in a Louisiana Bayou town. This novel focuses on Verity Fairchild and Boone Outlaw. A Perfect Mess introduces the reader to the three recently graduated ladies and the Outlaw triplet brothers featured in the series.  Verity is the Preacher’s daughter, Boone is one of the Outlaw triplets that has been judged by the town due to his name and a relative of generations past.

So far after reading both novels, I see several similarities. Both novels involve a specific secret(s) between an Outlaw brother and one of the three school chum gals. Social class and standing are issues, The females in the novels seem to be serious, smart, and wanting to change their lives moving beyond Suttontowne, to bigger and brighter futures. While the Outlaw brothers are happy living where they are. Have established lives of their own in the town. In each novel there are car issues, misunderstandings, feelings for someone they feel they shouldn’t, and calling someone they care about, Sugar.

I love the dialect in the novels. I am a southern gal, and love their southern voice creating the scene and telling the story. Instead of sure, they say shore; Geezus for Jesus; and I have no idea where Huckleberry came from, but it is a hoot when they call each other by this name.

The stories in the novels take place over the course of one summer. A Perfect Mess begins the series in May, with, A Perfect Mistake  taking place in June that same summer. There has been mentions of the towns Founding Day event. So I believe that that dear reader is where book 3 will be leading us. To the end of summer and Founder’s Day.

In book 1, A Perfect Mess, readers are introduced to Verity as she is sitting at Braxton Outlaw’s restaurant. It is mentioned several time that she scowls, giving Boone the stink eye all the time. This creates interest and curiosity. Surely did in my case. Made me wonder just why Verity was so sassy when it came to the sight or mention of Boone Outlaw.

How the series begins…

This secret is the reason she does not want to return home, ever.  However, fate had other plans for Aubree and sends her right in the thick of where she did not want to be. Yet, while in her hometown, she will learn that hers is not the only secret to be revealed. But, dear reader, you will just have to read for yourself to see what these secrets are all about.

This was the first novel I have ever read by Author Zoe Dawson. I have to admit it was a nice change from my more adult reads. While reading I even had a craving for Cajun food. I still might venture out to a place close by so I can experience, Boudin sausage. But I am sure it will not be as  good as Braxton’s recipe.

Plot is well laid out and characters are rounded and described to a perfect T. Grammar and flow of the story, and the scenes creating story fall into a flow that have you wanting to know what is around the next page. While it also creates interest and intrigue into what the stories of the rest of the characters could be.

1.0 Tear-Drop Rave

It was only towards the end when the secrets were being revealed, that my emotions got the best of me and my heart went out to Aubree and Booker. Plus, I have to admit, the one secret revealed was very surprising to me. It was a good surprise, but it was still nothing I was expecting. A real twist in the story.

3.5 Romance Rave

From the moment in the novel when Aubree and Booker see each other for the first time in nine months readers feel a spark between these characters. Throughout the novel, this spark only grows brighter. The romance is not explicit, but is meaningful and emotional in how it is described and undertaken.

Would I recommend this novel? YES!!  I love the Southerness of it, the sass of the heroine and the emotion filled ending. Plus, I just like the name Aubree for a girl. My husbands grandfather was an Aubrey, and if we ever had a girl I wanted to name her that. He did not share the feeling. So I am glad to see a female Aubree as the heroine of this novel. You go Girl!!!

I have not finished reading, A Perfect Mistake yet.  Verity is a very entertaining character. I love her sass, quick thinking and her feisty attitude toward Boone. Part of the secret Verity holds inside of her is shared with Boone early in the story. However, all is not revealed. Boone has been having a recurring dream for the past months since graduation night, and he says ‘Fuck’ quite a lot.   Verity is confused about her feelings for Boone, is he or is he not the jerk she thought he was after that night. That night that changed her life and created the secret eating away at her soul. So it will be interesting to see how this novel ends and how the secrets make their way through the novels plot.

So far I have found two quotes from the book that I like very much. Let me share them with you.

Women were sure passionate about their flowers, but my guess was that a lot of the beauty in the world came from women. I know my ma sure was one beautiful lady.

I felt her hand in my jeans pocket, and she made a grab for what she thought was the bulge of my keys.“Not the keys,” I said as she grabbed my dick.My still hard dick.“Damn, Boone.”

I want to see Verity be BRAVE. To be able to share her secret with Boone. To stand up to her father, be the brave, confidant, and outspoken person she wants to be…

For all the Past glances and for the Future I hope Boone and Verity can have together…

The secrets in the two novels are similar to secrets that any woman could have. The setting of the secrets are written in a way that engages the reader and draws the reader into the story. Making this reviewer only that much curious, as to what River Pearl’s secret must be. For Aubree and Verity’s secrets are pretty big ones.

Whew!!! River Pearl and Brax have it out. Words are slinging faster than Brax’s spatula grilling frog legs at a family BBQ…

Chapter 17 was quite climatic, and a tear jerker (at least for me).

Will Verity’s secrets break her and Boone? What about her relationship with her father?

Like the Heroine, Verity, I also grew up in a religious family. We went to church every Sunday morning, night, and Wed. night too. My daddy read his bible every night before retiring off to bed. Even though he was my father and I loved him we were not very close. It seemed he could talk to my older siblings better than he could me. Seems no matter how young or old you are, it is hard to please our parents. I can feel the emotion and fear running through Verity. I just can’t wait to see how this novel ends…

Well, I am off to finish, A Perfect Mistake!

And I just finished it. Lordy, my eyes hurt from crying through the last of the novel, Chapter 17 and onward. The ending was so sweet. Know I just want my ‘sugar’ here to cuddle and kiss. Such a good story. Now, sad to see it end. Plus have to wait till May 2014 (4 months) to read Book 3 in the series, Braxton and River Pearl’s story. Hmm, wonder if her founders day project holds the secret to that story? Wonder what Braxton will be ‘cooking’ up?

Here is a recipe from Verity, (and Braxton approved)

Preacher’s Daughter Potato Salad
Makes 4 servings
Prep 30 minutes. Cook 30 minutes. Ready in 2 hours.
Ingredients
4 potatoes
4 eggs
½ stalk of celery, chopped
¼ cup sweet relish
1 clove of garlic, minced
2 tbsps prepared mustard
½ cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp cider vinegar
1 tbsp sugar
Paparika
Directions
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes; drain and chop.
2. Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil; cover, remove from heat, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water; peel and chop.
3. In a large bowl, combine the potatoes, eggs, celery, sweet relish, garlic, mustard, mayonnaise, cider vinegar, sugar and salt and pepper. Gently mix together.
4. Garnish top with sliced boiled eggs sprinkled with paparika and serve warm.
Try it, see if you like it, I am going to have to get my man-some, handsome cook to make it!!!

Writing was detailed. I felt like I was in the bayou with the characters. Being a past preschool teacher I could feel the excitement of Little Henry and his relationship with Boone. Dawson took us on another frog gigging adventure. But none for me thanks…  I was sucked into the story. The details of Verity’s clothing and Boone’s skill as a landscaper makes these characters pop right out at readers. I felt a kinship to Verity. She was the quiet, shy, preachers daughter. Yep, I was the shy and quiet deacons daughter. This book touched so many of my emotions…

2.5 Tear-Drops
There were a few tears here and there. I could tell Verity was hurting from keeping her secret inside so long and worried about Boone’s and her Father’s reactions. Yet, it wasn’t till Chapter 17 that the tears streamed constantly down my face. Then especially in Chapter 18 and the Epilogue. I used many a tissue for the end of this novel. Not sad tears, but emotional happy tears for how it all worked out. Sweet, sweet ending to a wonderful read!

A Perfect Mistake was one LOVE of a read! Once the Hero and Heroine joined up, their love was hotter than the bayou on the hottest day in the summer. These two just could not keep their hands off one another. Plus you caught Booker and Aubree kissing too…
Yes, this read has more steam than Book 1. Verity and Boone really now how to make each others heart race. Readers, you also may learn a little about Jock Straps while reading this novel 😉

Synopsis

I want to tell you how great my life was. How I lived without regrets. With constant laughter. Without any tears. I want to tell you how I lived each moment to the fullest. How each breath I took was fresh and full of life. With eagerness. Without any fear.

I want to tell you all of that, but then my story would be masked with lies and not worth telling.

My life didn’t start until I left my past. And I left everything. My mother, my friends, my name.

My new name, the name everyone knows me by is Erin Lewis.

Four years after finding the courage to leave her hometown in Alabama, Erin is finally happy with where her life has led her. Not only is she secure in her environment, but the relationships she has formed center her, making her forget how damaged she once was. Before she can fully settle into her new life, her past crashes into her present, unraveling a set of events that destroy the very foundation she has built her new life on.

About the Author

yessi Smith profile photo

I’m a Hispanic living in South Florida with my redneck husband from Texas and our “half breed” son, who is actually the reason I started writing again after years of celibacy. My son loves stories, but not the kind you can read in an existing book. No, he’d rather make up a story, complete with our own illustrations. So, thank you, Son, for igniting a flame I had let go out.
I also live with two dogs: a neurotic Border Collie we call Nitro and a midget Rottweiler named Nisa.
I have always found my sanctuary at the beach and in music and writing. I wish I could write rhymes so I could become a famous rapper, but rhyming is completely lost on me.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s in Human Resource Management. I have held several jobs, from picking up dog crap to upper management positions. And now I am hoping to leave the business world behind so I can live full time in a world that does not exist until I place my fingers on a keyboard and bring them to fruition.

readong, writing book reviews
I just finished reading, Life’s A Cappella by Yessi Smith.  I have to be honest and admit that when signing up for this tour, chatting with author, and even after having her takeover my Facebook page for a day, I did not really know what this novel was about. Then I began reading the novel. At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it or not. Right off the first page we are introduced to this woman in her early twenties. She is telling us the readers, flat out that her life has been a struggle, that she has moved on and even changed her name. All in the hopes of starting a new life. A life with better memories, a life she can control.
Next we learn that she lives in Miami, Florida. Now this drew me a little deeper into the story-line. Florida is one of my favorite states. One can tell reading this novel and really understanding Erin, that the ocean is important to her . Even Erin mentions several times throughout the novel that the beach calms her. Which is also true for this reviewer. My grandparents lived in Florida up until I was in say the fourth grade. We visited there every summer and Christmas. Lots of Happy Memories were made there, and are still with me now that I am in my forties .
We enter Erin’s world. Her best friend is Camilla. Erin met Erin while in College to be a nurse. Camilla introduces her to few of her close friends. These people make up Erin’s life. She goes to school, works, has her own apartment, and enjoys bonfires on the beach with her friends and a bottle of Patron.
The novel spans around a year and a half of time. Early in the novel Camilla asks Erin to go to Key West with her and their group of friends over school break. Here is where readers are introduced to Trent. Trent will become a main character and the Hero throughout the novel at this point. As well as playing a key role in Erin’s life.
After the break with its wonderful and invigorating trip to the Keys. School begins and so does a new routine for Erin. Now not only does her so called life include her close knit friends, but also Trent. Their relationship builds, and for once Erin’s life seems to be going as planned.
UNTIL…
Her past meets up with her. It is nothing bad. But she does get a shock. This shock complicates her controlled life and her relationships with others.
Erin has never been honest with her close knit of friends. Her past is a constant memory she would like to forget. That is why she moved and changed her name, to give her a redo in life. To be a brand new person, a stronger person.
This shocking news has her mentally and her body language even changes. She is protecting herself, walling her emotions about her past and present life inwardly. She does not need anyone, has never needed anyone. But Camilla and Trent being the close friends they are see that she is hurting. Words are said, that are in the heat of the moment. In the blink of an eye, they learn a part of her past that she never wanted them to know. Camilla tries to reach out to her. But this time with her dear Camilla is coming to an end that Erin does not see coming.
Resulting in Shock #2
(But you will have to read to find out what this is)
Her emotions are in turmoil. Literally knotting her up inside. Days are blurred, days pass. Erin is in so much pain.
Even though Erin had a big fight with Trent, he is there for her during this time. Before they have another argument. However, this most recent argument leaves Erin with new thoughts. So she begins to deal with shock #1, which eventually turns out to be a blessing.
Erin is a survivor. The novel is an experience in Life, with all its ups and downs, and happy middles.
During the novel she learns what being a friend is all about, says “I Love You” for the first time, and learns to truly trust someone. Erin matures throughout the novel. In the beginning she is the Miami party girl slash student. By the end she is complete, her world taken a full 360 degree turn along with her emotions and issues with her past.
I think you will like this story. It is not your average New Adult novel. It is about real type persons whom we may pass no matter where we live. The emotions and challenges faced in the plot, are REAL. The romance is REAL. The story could even be real in REAL Life somewhere out there, and we do not know it…
Do I recommend this novel, YES!!!

2.5 Tears– This novel really speaks to the heart. Yes, I shed some tears. But most were happy tears!

3.5 Romance Rating- This novel has tender, loving, romance. But the romance does not distract from the story. The romance is not detailed, the reader just knows what action is being taken at times during the novel. But overall I the important thing is that Erin learns to love and trust in the novel. She puts her past behind her and uses it as a learning experience, not one to keep bottled up. But to open up about it, and learn how to use it to make her future a brighter, happier one for herself and those she loves.
thanks for reading
