Book Review *UNSCREWED* by Ren Alexander

Greg Rodwell.
The myth, the man, the legend.
Yeah. I’m none of that crap.
Okay. I’m a man. There’s that much.
Almost everyone calls me Rod, whether I like it or not. I’m the guy others look to for a laugh, a dirty joke, a distraction—the office clown. Even my best friend, Hadley, laughs.
It’s just that, I’m not always laughing. Not even on the inside. Nobody knows the real Greg or the agony I hide with humor. My recently dead sister had a clue, but she’s in no position to blab. I screwed up big time—then and now—but it’s all my undoing. Through everything, Hadley’s been my cure and my curse. And I fell in love with my married best friend. But she wasn’t always married, and I wasn’t always broken.
I had a millisecond of a chance, but I blew it, siding with morality. What guy does that? And sailing that sinking ship all the way down, I sacrificed my wants for her needs. Doing that, I fathered a kid with the office trouser troll. Stupid? Hell to the yes. Because now, regardless of the grand total, I want something I can’t have. Integrity and my sanity be damned.
But nobody, especially Hadley, can know the real Greg Rodwell, my tortured soul, my unashamed love, or my darkest truth, because it wouldn’t just blow her mind.
It would rock our damn world.
Ren Alexander is the author of seven novels in contemporary romance, including The Wild Sparks Series, The Keys to Jericho, and UNSCREWED. She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia and graduated from West Liberty University, where she received a B.S. in criminal justice. Although interested in that field, her true passion was reading and writing. She currently lives in Detroit, Michigan with her husband, two daughters, and two cats.
Ren’s novel, The Keys to Jericho, was chosen as an “Official Selection” in the Romance category of Apple Literary’s 2017 Annual Book Awards.
Favorite Books
Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility,” S.C. Stephens’ “Thoughtless” series, Patricia Cornwell’s Scarpetta books, Kirsty Moseley books, and the list goes on.
Personal Interests
I love reading, writing, and playing The Sims. They’re all serious addictions. Send help.

REVIEW!

Finally Greg Rodwell!
Full of wit, charm, empathy, comical quips, loyalty, and unquenchable love.  He is truly unforgettable,
his colorful vocabulary, his humorous fashion expertise, his downright outrageous and amusing
behavior abounds.  Rod continuously has me in hysterical fits with his Hello Kitty Kite-flying abilities
to his Strom Trooper Ties, and his Sponge-Bob Coffee Cups.  I just can’t, I can not.

I am just destroyed by this mans secrets and excessive need to be loved.  Trust me you do not know Rod
at all, until you read his story.  Then perhaps you will have to re-read his story to know just how many
demons ride his soul.  They are extensive and they are corroding his psyche which eventually wear poor
Rod down until they affect his trust in just about everyone he holds dear.

Through all his strengths, his bad decisions somehow get the best of this man.
Still he tackles them all, and tries to be a good buddy, best friend, co-worker, paralegal,
and maybe a father, maybe a lover?
There are still plenty of questions to be revealed and tons of mystery to wade through,
and I guess that’s why this author has stated this is just Book One is this incredible
journey of Greg Rodwell.

I cannot wait to get to it, bring it on Ren Alexander, you madam are a genius storyteller for I can practically smell Rod’s Chrome spray all up in my nostrils!

She’s stuck in a rut, stuck in life and stuck in an elevator with Hollywood’s hottest actor. And of course she’s just come from the gym.

Claire Parelli just can’t seem to catch a break, well, except for heartbreak, that is. After a lifetime of following the rules, she winds up heartbroken, unfulfilled, and hiding from life. But she can’t hide for long.

After getting stuck aboard a broken elevator with Hollywood It-Boy, Daniel Chase, they begin a secret romance that pries Claire out of her element, out of her shell, and out of her sweatpants. But when their romance accidentally goes public, Claire’s life implodes, leaving her to choose to hunker down in the safety of her sweatpants, or risk her fragile heart on a chance at life, love, and the pursuit of better clothing.

He nods. “Fair enough. So . . . when might I see you again?”

See me again?  With a cautiously optimistic smile, I say, “You’re the one flying across the country. You tell me.”

“Well, I leave for L.A. after some meetings tomorrow, and my schedule is insane this week, but I believe I have a couple of days off at some point coming up in the next couple of weeks. I forget the exact dates. Anyway, maybe we’ll see each other then?”

“But you’ll be in L.A.”

“It’s not that far by plane.”

I shake my head. “I can’t call out of work.” I won’t blow off work to take a trip. Not for a guy. I’m smarter than that.

He nods. “Maybe I’ll fly back, then.”

My heart launches into my throat. “You’d fly back to see me? You must have a million girls at your disposal on the West Coast.” I’m teasing—sort of.

“True . . . but I’m running out.”

I laugh, enjoying how quickly he can make me laugh. “Oh, so I guess it’s time to move on to the East Coast women?”

He peers down at me through his long lashes, his full lips tugged up on one side. “Or woman.”

My heart flips and flops in my throat, but I won’t let myself buy it. “ ‘Woman,’ huh?”

He rolls his eyes. “Claire, really, how many women’s bedrooms do you think I just hang around in?”

I raise a “do you really want an answer?” eyebrow.

He shakes his head and chuckles. “For your information, if I was merely here for one thing, I’d have had you undressed long ago.”

I raise my eyebrows, smiling. “You think so, huh?”

“Yes, I do. I’m just . . . too polite.”

“Too polite?” I nearly bust out laughing.

“Or maybe I’m just an idiot.”

We both burst into laughter, releasing the tension in the room, and that’s when our eyes lock, speaking the same language, craving the same thing. The atmosphere shifts once again, this time instantly growing tight and thick with heat.

Synopsis

Life is one big surprise…

Last Christmas Taylor surprised me.

A Christmas spent in Connecticut with my family,

I was enjoying my time,

I worried about him every second.

Would he make it

while I made it through my best summer yet?

My name is Violet Walker and this is my summer story!

By the time you read this, I’ll be dead. I hope I had the chance to tell you this myself, but in the event that I couldn’t, I want you to know that from the moment we met, I loved you. So, so, so much. And these past few months dealing with the reality of my mortality have allowed me to reach into the depths of that love and see that what is sweet on one hand, is devastatingly sad on the other: You loved me with the depth and truth that most people never know. And because of that (here’s the devastating part), I know you won’t let go, even once I’m gone. It’s sweet to know that I owned your heart, body and soul for all of these years, but it crushes me that you will bury these things with my body and not only deprive yourself of life, of enjoying and sharing it with someone else but from love altogether… and that is the tragedy here. You deserve to live, breathe, taste, and love again. Elliot, that is what Love is, and that is what I want for you once I’m gone.

Be sure to add this to your TBR!
