“No! Andy…please!”

I was roughly shoved into the back of  a black car. The door slammed shut, the front door opened soon after and he got in. There was a click, as the car was locked. He threw the car into forward, and took off at an insane speed leaving everyone I knew and cared for behind.

I watched in terror as trees whizzed by, leaving the familiar surroundings behind as the road went from pavement to dirt and the buildings were replaced with large trees and fallen branches. I didn’t know where we were going, but I wanted to go home. The locks wouldn’t budge; the child safety lock prevented my escape the moment he had locked me in this god-forsaken car. I had lost my phone in the struggle, and I was stuck in here.

There were scratch marks and dark spots on the seat. It looked as though someone had tried to claw their way out and I couldn’t blame them. Every hair on my neck were standing on end with fear blazing through me. My throat was sore from the screaming, but all the drivers had ignored my pleas for help. They simply kept driving without another sideways glance in my direction.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked again, my voice hoarse from the screams and crying. It was answered the same way, with silence that slowly crept in and made me shudder.

“Shut up!’

“Where are we going?”

“Be a good girl and take orders. Now shut up!”

I wished more than anything to be back at home and under my bed, away from him. The road turned to gravel as we came upon a rundown house, its shudders were falling of the hinges, but what caught me was the windows were boarded up. To prevent escape, I felt a shiver travel up my spine as the car came to a slow stop.

He got out of the car and didn’t unlock the doors until he was at the door. That small click would have brought me relief at any point in the car ride other than now. I pushed against the other side of the car as he reached one long hand in and grabbed me by my ankle and roughly yank me out of the car on to the gravel. A scream ripped through my throat as the gravel cut into my skin and my head hit the side of the car.

“Get up!” he ordered. My head was spinning from everything that had happened, but when I didn’t move, he moved me.

His hand grabbed take a large chunk of my hair before he lifted me out of the car, ignoring my cries of pain. He roughly dragged me to the house, I couldn’t get my feet to walk and fell often.

The door was solid, he had to slam his body against the wooden blockade and force it open. There was a creak as it slowly opened from his blows, and he threw me inside onto the hardwood floor. There was no carpet, anywhere It would be possible to hear every step from anywhere in the home. The house was bare to the bones, the walls held no photos or phones, rooms remained empty of furniture unless it was bolted to the ground. A new wave of fear ripped through me in realization that he had done this before, he had taken precautions for it.

EXCERPT

Tommo took his mug of

Cheerios over to his desk and began eating. Over the crunch of cereal, he heard

distant fireworks. It wasn’t even eight o’clock yet, and already people were

celebrating the New Year. Why was everyone so eager to get to next year,

anyway? Were their lives really so bad that they needed to constantly look

forward to tomorrow and next week and next month and next year?

Hold on… that noise?

He had thought it was fireworks, but… The hair on the back of Tommo’s neck

began to prickle. He realised that the popping sound might not actually be

distant fireworks. It might be something a lot closer – like maybe a light

tapping at his window.

Tommo placed his mug

and spoon down on the desk, and carefully finished chewing the contents of his

mouth. From the dark window, his own scared reflection stared back at him.

Surely he must have imagined the noise. His apartment was four floors up, and

there was no balcony. No tree with branches that could be scraping against the

window. But, there it was again. A rhythmic tap, tap, tap.

Tommo pushed himself

away from the window, his chair rolling backward over the parquet floor. The

tapping had now been replaced by a squeaking sound. What the… Was that a circle

appearing on the window? Yes, someone was drawing a large circle on the window

with their fingernail! He had to be hallucinating. Maybe the milk was off and

he was coming down with food poisoning.

Just then, the circle

of glass moved. It tipped out of the window and crashed onto his computer

monitor. Tommo jumped up in terror, as the glass slid down and landed with a

thud on his desk, unbroken. A rush of frigid air flew into the apartment. Tommo

gasped, too scared to run or even scream.

He had to get out of

here. He had to leave the apartment. But he hadn’t left the apartment in

months. Someone or something was out there in the darkness. An arm came through

the empty circle of air. Tommo panted in fear, pushed the chair out of his way

and backed up against his front door. Someone was climbing through the window.

Coming to get him.

In the blink of a

cursor, that someone appeared in front of him, staring down at his face with

murderous eyes. Tommo shrank back even further, trying to melt into the wooden

door, wishing he had the courage to open it and run away from whoever this was.

‘Who are you?’ he

squeaked. ‘What do you want? Take whatever you need. Just, please, don’t hurt

me.’

‘Tommo,’ the man

said. How did he know his name? This man wasn’t like anyone Tommo had ever met

before. He was blonde and pale, with piercing eyes and the whitest teeth. He

looked like a character from one of his games. He wasn’t quite a man either. More, a boy. But the scariest

boy he’d ever seen. Young and old at the same time. Like an angel, or a devil.

Not… human.

‘You had a visitor

today,’ the man-boy continued, his voice a hissing whisper. The trace of a

foreign accent.

‘A visitor?’ Tommo

repeated. He felt as though he was watching himself from above, his mind

divorced from his body.

‘Yes. A girl.’

‘She came here, yes,’

Tommo stammered.

‘She asked you to do

something for her. But you said no. Why did you say no?’

‘I… I… can do it. If

you want me to do it. I can do what she asked.’

‘Now.’

‘Yes, yeah, sure. It…

it might take a while, though. A few hours at least.’

‘A photograph has

been sent to your phone and to your email,’ the man said. ‘Email back when you

find a match for the girl in the photo.’

‘What happens if I

can’t find a match?’

The man bent down, so

his face was millimetres from his own. ‘Do you see the hole I made in your

window, Tommo?’

Tommo nodded.

‘Look at it,’ the man

said. He took hold of Tommo’s chin and turned his face toward the window, to

the newly made hole. The man’s hand was hard and cold like ice. Not like a

human hand at all.

‘I can see. I can see

the window, and I can see the hole.’

‘Good,’ replied the

man. ‘It’s a long way down, Tommo. A long way down.’

Tommo felt sick. He

felt the Cheerios working their way back up his gullet.

‘Remember,’ the man

said, letting go of Tommo’s chin. ‘Find the girl in the photo.’

And then the man was

gone. Just like that. Gone. And Tommo’s Cheerios finally made a reappearance

all over the parquet floor.

His lifestyle.  His rules.

Is she willing to risk her heart to play his game?

Guitarist Cole Hayes learned early that falling in love is the easiest way to lose.  Determined never to go down that road, he sealed his heart off, numbing himself with erotic and sensual pleasures–with men and women alike. The rules were simple:  group sex only and never one-on-one.

It’s all so simple until he meets Devon Bannister, the beautiful director shooting the documentary on his band.  Suddenly, she’s all he can think about. Neither can deny the attraction and desire between them.

Although Devon is open to exploring Cole’s lifestyle, for the first time in his life, he finds himself reluctant to share.

How can he own all of her, if he’s only willing to give half of himself?

Excerpt

He’s dead still for a second, but then he wraps his arms around me and pulls me in close.  He’s right between my legs, and I shiver when I feel the cotton of his T-shirt against my inner thighs.  I gasp as the implication of why I can feel him hits me.

“Oh my God,” I sputter as I pull back.  “Holy shit!”

Cole quickly pulls back and looks up at me with concern.

           “What’s wrong?”

When I went to dry the monitor, the thing I grabbed to do it was the hem of my white cotton dress—the hem of which had rested about an inch above my knee.  I’m now sitting here with it bunched up around my thighs.  I try not to look down, but can’t help it.  As quick as I bring my eyes back to his, it’s too late.  His gaze follows the path mine just did, and he lets out a choked noise when he realizes the state I’m in.

           “Jesus, Devon,” he growls.  “Fuck.”

Lifting his head, he meets my eyes.  My breath stops, lodging somewhere in my chest when I see the look of hunger in his eyes.  The breath rushes out of me in a whoosh when he leans back and runs his hands up the inside of my thighs.

“You’re so soft,” he murmurs. “So beautiful.”

I expel the breath I’ve been holding in a rush. Seemingly of their own volition, my legs spread wider, allowing him to come in closer.

Excerpt:

She’d thought he’d be easy to find, but the place was SEAL hunk central, with an awful lot of the fit, attractive guys in attendance. While quite a few of them flashed charming grins in her direction, none of them had those unforgettable blue eyes she’d spent the past four weeks seeing in her dreams.

Her earlier assessment had been right. This was hopeless.

Sighing, Hayley turned to go in search of Brad instead and almost smacked right into the broad, muscular chest of a guy in blue camo. She stared at his uniform up close, absently wondering why the Navy wore blue camouflage. It wasn’t like they were ever going to be in a blue jungle. She glanced at the rank on his collar—noting the three chevrons of a petty officer first class—then the nametag sewn on the right hand side of his chest, noting his name—it said WARD—before lifting her head to apologize for practically mowing him down. But when her gaze met his, all she could do was stare. There couldn’t be two men on the planet with eyes that blue. She’d found the SEAL who’d saved her life.

“It’s you,” she breathed.

Okay, that definitely wasn’t the most intelligent thing she’d ever said out loud. But the SEAL smiled anyway, flashing the cutest pair of dimples her way. Hayley’s breath hitched. She’d tried to picture what he looked like ever since that night, alternating between Chris Hemsworth and Henry Cavill and finally settling on a combination of the two. She hadn’t even been close. Petty Officer Ward was even more gorgeous than she imagined. Taller than she was by nearly a foot, he had broad shoulders, dark hair, and a square jaw to go along with those mesmerizing eyes. Now, this was what a superhero should look like.

“It is,” he said. “I’m glad to see you’re doing well, Ms. Garner.”

She’d been so caught up in the memory of the captivating blue of his eyes she’d completely forgotten how sexy his voice was. The deep, rich tones caressed her, making her feel warm all over. Just like they had that night in Africa. Wow, this guy was pure sexy, wrapped in blue camo. She had a crazy urge to ask him to say something else—anything else—so she could hear that voice again.

“Call me Hayley, please,” she finally managed.

She offered him her hand, pulse skipping when he took it. Wow, he had really big hands. A little part of her mind whispered something about the significance of that, but she ignored it. Instead, she focused on the overall sense of strength seeming to pour off him in waves. Being this close to him and getting a chance to take in how tall and muscular he was reminded her of the way he’d picked her up and carried her so effortlessly that night—all while using a weapon.

Hayley had never thought of herself as the kind of woman who wanted to be swept off her feet by a guy, but right now she was thinking this man could carry her anywhere he wanted to.

Damn, this guy was seriously messing with her calm, cool journalist exterior.

“Chasen Ward,” he said.

Chasen. Unusual, but it fit him. Gorgeous name for a gorgeous guy.

She wondered if the guy realized the kind of effect he likely had on every woman on the planet, especially the one standing right in front of him. Probably not, she guessed. Guys were usually clueless about that kind of stuff.

“How did things go over there?” she asked. “After you got me out, I mean.”

She cringed as soon as the words were out. Guess he hadn’t messed with her journalist mojo as much as she’d thought. Crap, now he’d think she was looking for a scoop. Nothing turned people off more than a nosy reporter.

But he merely nodded. The shade from the brim on his hat accentuated his chiseled features as he moved, making them seem even more angular.

“They went well,” he said. “My Team and I got back a few days ago as a matter of fact.”

Her inner Barbara Walters wanted to ask what else they’d done over there, but before she could decide if that was a good idea or not, two other Navy guys in blue camouflage sauntered over. Both petty officers second class, they were tall, well-built, and good looking.

“Hey, I know you,” the younger of the two men said with a trace of a Southern accent. Blond with brown eyes, he had that casual Channing Tatum-thing going on. “Though I hope you don’t mind me saying, you look a lot better now than you did the last time we saw you.” Hayley frowned in confusion at the two men, sure she would have remembered if she’d met them before.

Chasen chuckled. “This is Dalton Jennings and Nash Cantrell. They were with me when we rescued you that night. You’ll have to forgive Dalton for being clueless. He’s taken several classes on how to be charming, but unfortunately, he keeps failing them.”

She laughed and shook hands with both men. Dalton looked so chagrined, she couldn’t help but take pity on him. “Don’t worry about it, Dalton. I’m well aware of how much of a mess I looked that night. Thanks for being there with Chasen and the rest of your Team.”

The SEAL visibly relaxed, giving her another grin. “No problem. Just doing our job, ma’am.”

Dalton might have failed out of charm school—according to Chasen at least—but there wasn’t a woman alive who wouldn’t swoon over that Southern drawl.

“I know it was hard to tell with all the gear we had on,” Dalton continued. “But I was the one doing this.”

Dark eyes suddenly intense, he struck an action hero pose, arms lifted as if he were holding an imaginary machine gun. On either side of him, Chasen and Nash snorted in unison.

“You mean you were the one nearly running into every wall around you because the batteries in your NVGs were dying.” Nash pointed out drily, his dark eyes filled with amusement.

Dalton considered that a moment, then dropped the pose and shrugged. “That might have been me.”

Hayley laughed, unable to help herself. They were both funny—and seriously cute—but she had to admit she was glad when they took off a little while later, leaving her alone with Chasen.

“How is your ankle feeling?” he asked as his buddies walked off toward the pavilion.

“Much better, thanks,” she said.

He looked down pointedly at her foot where it peeked out from under her long skirt. She’d tried not to make it obvious, but she’d been standing with all her weight on her good foot so she could give the injured one a rest. Chasen lifted a brow as if he saw through the little white lie.

Hayley gave him a sheepish look. “Okay, you caught me. It still hurts a little. But it really is much better. Thanks to you.”

“How’s that?”

“If you hadn’t gotten there in time, a messed-up ankle would have been the least of my worries. I don’t know how I can ever repay you for saving my life.”

That playful grin returned. “I’m more than ready to call it even if you consider going out to dinner with me.”

If Chasen were any other guy, Hayley might consider making him work a little harder for a date. But she’d been more than ready to go out with him since he’d loaded her on that helicopter over in Africa. Heck, there’d been a time or two when she’d woken up from an especially nice dream involving the Navy

SEAL when she was ready to do a lot more than date the guy. Rip off his uniform and roll around on the floor with him being one thing that came to mind.

“Dinner sounds great,” she said, quite proud of her ability to maintain her composure.

“Friday night work for you?”

“Perfect.”

Hayley entered her number in his phone while he did the same with hers, then she gave him her address.

“I’ll see you at 1830 hours,” he said, then chuckled. “I mean, six-thirty.”

“I can’t wait,” she said, and meant it.

Touching his fingers to the brim of his hat in a causal salute, Chasen gave her another smile then strode off. Hayley let out a sigh as she watched him go. Damn, he made that blue camouflage uniform look good.

Excerpt:

We entered an uncarpeted, vacant hallway that branched out on both ends. Several metal doors with bolts lined the walls. The blue paper booties I wore crinkled against the bottoms of my feet.

“What did they give me?” I asked when we stepped into the restroom straight across from the room I was in.

Ann led me to a stall with no door, only an off-white partition that separated it from the other johns. “It was a barbiturate used to sedate patients. Sleep therapy is what some doctors dubbed it.” She continued to talk while I emptied my bladder, keeping her word to give me as much privacy as she could.

Once I finished, I went to the sink and cringed at my reflection in the mirror. The right side of my face had a purple, yellowish bruise across my cheek, and the luster in my hazel eyes was gone. My complexion had a grayish cast. Whatever was injected into my body created a carbon copy of myself.

Ann handed me a washrag, and I realized there was no hot water when I went to dampened it. After I cleaned off my eyes and face, we headed down the north side of the hall. I listened to Ann tell me that most of the residents were in the common room, which explained the eerie silence.

“There you are,” a manly nurse with thick forearms and a broad forehead said when we rounded the corner from another corridor. She was heading our way and seemed quite annoyed.

Ann stiffened but held her head high. “Ameerah caught my attention. She needed to use the lavatory, and now I’m taking her to the dining room for lunch.”

“I realize you’re new here, Ann,” the other nurse said, “but we do not call patients by their first name in their presence. Each one has a number.” She pointed at me. “This one is number sixty-four.”

A laugh of disbelief escaped my lips. I couldn’t help it. What type of place was this, sedating people, tying them to a bed, and calling them by numbers instead of their names? I found being called Sixty-four another check in the box under the dehumanization category. “Excuse me,” I said when they looked at me, “I don’t know what type of facility I’m in, but regardless, I have a name. It’s Ameerah. To refer to me by a number is demonizing my identity, so I’d appreciate it if you would stick with my name instead.”

The coarse nurse scowled. “We will do no such thing.”

I made a face. “Why? What’s the purpose in such a demoralizing act? And what the hell is this place?”

Still scowling the nurse snapped, “Watch your mouth.”

“You’re in an insane asylum,” Ann said.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Callum Ferguson has grown up in the shadow of the sins of his father. The worst moment of his life came not at the age of sixteen, when he threw his father out of the house, but later in life, when he realised he was just like him. With a predilection for alcohol and violence, he sees his destiny every time he looks in the mirror.

Sass Hathaway, hell-raiser and successful musician, thrived in the limelight – until one night she lost it all. Drowning in an ocean of uncertainty, nursing a crippling case of self-loathing, her brother offers her a chance to find herself again.

His idea of salvation is a dilapidated bar. His proposal; she help him and his wife renovate and run it. However, when she and Callum cross paths, they both discover that salvation comes in many forms.

You can’t escape your past, you can only come to terms with it so that you can move on – but accepting your past is only the beginning. Then you must decide whether you’re strong enough to follow your heart.

(This can be read as a stand-alone, but reading ‘Absolution’ is recommended in order to get the most out of this story).

 AP new - excerpt.jpg

Desperate for an excuse to escape, I picked up my plate and headed inside with it. I slammed it on the kitchen counter and tried to breathe evenly, all the while talking myself down. I was jealous. That’s what it was. What was I doing wrong? Why couldn’t that be me? Where on earth was I going to find strength like that?

“Hey.”

I didn’t even hear Callum follow me, but when I turned around, he was standing in the doorway, watching me.

“Hi.”

I turned my back on him, picking up my plate and rinsing it in the sink.

“You okay?”

“Fine.”

Such bullshit, but what else was I going to say? Suddenly, the water turned hot and I dropped the plate with a muffled curse, burning my fingers.

“Shit,” he said, at my side in a flash. “Here, hold it here.”

He turned the cold water on and shoved my hand under the stream. The relief was instant, although it didn’t help my mood. He was too close to me, his body blocking me from behind, his hand still holding mine under the water. I could smell him, his personal scent a peculiar mix of engine oil and cologne. It drove me wild, and also ripped me open.

One minute, I wanted to cry. The next, I wanted him to kiss me. What the hell was wrong with me?

“Promise me something,” he said huskily, his face so near mine.

I didn’t want to promise him anything. My first instinct was to say that, but I fought it because I was curious.

“Promise me you won’t lie to me anymore, no matter what,” he said, his other hand slipping between my arm and my body and settling on my hip. I could feel it burning through my jeans, right through to the skin. I had visions of last night, of how gentle his hands were. They fascinated me. Despite their size, and rugged outward appearance, they were tender, careful. I was beginning to think his hands were a metaphor for his personality.

His breath fanned against my neck. I had no idea if he was doing it on purpose or not, but it made it nearly impossible to draw a steady breath.

“When I ask you if you’re okay,” he continued, his breath igniting the fire inside me, the one I’d thought was long since dead. “Don’t lie to me and say you’re fine when you’re not. I might be a lot of things, but I’m not an idiot. Let’s make a pact, right now. Just the truth from here on in. Okay?”

My heart thundered in my ears. Part of me wanted to fidget and pull away and get some space between us, because I’d almost convinced myself that’s what I needed. Space, room to breathe, to move, to think.

Another part of me wanted him to kiss me, just like he had last night, because that’s what made me forget everything else. That’s what made me feel like a real person, like a whole person.

I sucked in a shaky breath. My body was on fire, and it had separated from my brain. One wanted him to come closer, it didn’t care what he said. The other wanted to push him away, because what he was suggesting was a step too far.

“Okay?” he asked again, his hand squeezing my hip gently.

God help me, I nodded.

 AP new -about the author.jpg

Amanda Dick is a night-owl, coffee addict, movie buff and music lover. She loves to do DIY (if it’s not bolted down, she’ll probably paint it, re-cover it or otherwise decorate it) and has tried almost every craft known to man/womankind. She has two sewing machines and an over-locker she can’t remember how to thread. She crochets (but can’t follow a pattern), knits (badly) and refrains from both as a public service.

She believes in love at first sight, in women’s intuition and in following your heart. She is rather partial to dark chocolate and believes in the power of a good vanilla latte.

What lights her fire is writing stories about real people in trying situations. Her passion is finding characters who are forced to test their boundaries. She is insanely curious about how we, as human beings, react when pushed to the edge. Most of all, she enjoys writing about human behaviour – love, loss, joy, grief, friendship and the complexity of relationships in general.

After living in Scotland for five years, she has now settled back home in New Zealand, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Her debut novel, “Absolution”, was released on 29 October 2013 (with the second edition releasing on 6 January 2015). Her second novel, “Between Before and After”, was released in May 2014. Her third novel, “Into the Void”, is scheduled to release in July 2015.

**Blog Tour + Review** AWAKEN ME by Alex Grayson!

What do you do when you lose the single most important thing

in your life? You grieve. You sink so deep in a hole, you can no longer see the

top. All you see is dark. Your life becomes dull and dreary. You withdraw from

your friends, lash out at the ones your closest to, and become so absorbed in

your pain, you feel the only way out is to end it permanently. Your heart no

longer pumps properly and you can never get enough air in your lungs. You

drink, you neglect your health, and you rent dirty hotel rooms with the sole purpose

of ending your pain in them. Guilt eats at you for not being at the one place

you were needed the most. And you become angry because you were left behind.

Or at least, that’s what I did. Until she came along…

Chris, the bane of my existence. She’s always there in the

background, watching me, trying to ‘be there’ for me. But I don’t want her

help. I don’t need her to butt in where she’s not wanted. I just want to be

left alone in my grief. But she not giving up, even when I throw insult after

insult her way. Every time I turn around, there she is. And what’s worse, she’s

starting to make me want things. Things I never thought I could have again.

She’s making me forget the pain and bringing color back into my life with her

fiery red hair, bright green eyes, and the silly faces she makes at herself in

the mirror. But what happens if I let her in? Could I be brave enough to open

myself up, knowing the possibility of having it snatched away again. Once I

know the feeling of touching Chris, of having her heart and soul blend with

mine, I would never survive losing that.

Can I take the chance of her being my savior, even knowing

that she could also be the one that could push me other the edge of

self-destruction?

Emotional turmoil and Grieving Creative Writing

c391b87cc4b3fe8594e321448362c7b4[1]

First off the Author has a way with brilliantly weaving a tragic tale so vividly your imagination goes into a sort of overload full of emotion.  The turmoil you feel seems to invade your senses, your distinct nuance and every painful, precise, sharp and devastating memory in your soul that comes back to haunt you.

Second Chance Romance Factor

95ef5e3a26105d6dc0fb9a32dd25d299[1]

Although I did not find any sexy romantic moments in this piece, I'll tell you what I did find:

I loved the premise of this tragic second chance romance, I would not segregate it into a dark romance category.  I was a bit disappointed with Nick the entire time, he always seem to let me, Chris, and his friends down time after time with his crass behavior, rude conduct and abhorrent abuse to Chris.

The back and forth is this story left me absolutely drained from Nick’s woes and tears to Chris’s ‘I forgive yous’ and ‘Nick and I’ are over’s that I have lost any sort of connection to any character in this series.  It might have been to much of an emotional overload for me.

Book Boyfriends – Book Girl Friends

691769852368994bf9e9cea6492ffbed[1]

Nick was portrayed as the broken, hopeless, shattered soul that allowed his tragic past to decimate any sort of hope for a new future or a second chance love to enter his dreary life.  He has lived in grief and let survivors remorse rule every minute on every hour from his tragic past, all memories seem to affect his psyche and he really is at his breaking point.

Chris really was a strong heroine that always put others before herself.  A true caring woman whos only thought is the needs of others and always willing to save, heal, and give to a soul.  Someone that wears her emotions on her sleeve and strong enough to bring light into a loving future just might be enough to piece a fallen man together again.

Thank you Alex Grayson for allowing me to Read, Review and give MY two cents worth in your emotional tale!

Alex Grayson is originally from the south, but has recently moved to Northern Ohio. Although she misses the warmth of Florida and often times detest the cold of Ohio, she absolutely loves living in the north. Her and her husband bought a house on two acres of land and live there with their daughter, son, one dogs, two cats, eight ducks, and three chickens. She hopes to eventually get a couple of goats to add to their country way of living. Besides her family and home, her next best passion is reading. She is often found with her nose obsessively stuck in a book, much to the frustration of her husband and daughter. On more than one occasion Alex found herself wanting a book to go a certain way, but it didn’t. With these thoughts in mind, she decided to start writing stories according to her own visions. Although this is a new endeavor for her, she hopes that readers find her concepts on romance intriguing and captivating. Alex welcomes and encourages feedback, of any kind. Excerpt:

He

smiled. “Just say thank you, and we’ll call it even.”

For a

long moment, she stared at him, mouth agape, not sure if this was some sort of

British humor she didn’t understand. Well, she supposed it didn’t cost her

anything to give him what he wanted. “Thank you.”

His

smile widened. “I thought American girls were all about, uhm,” he paused, his

gaze sliding to her slightly parted lips, “…affectionate forms of

appreciation.”

Abby

exhaled. Did he really expect her to kiss him? Well, she wasn’t going to, no

matter how many times her gaze wandered to his mouth. “I don’t know you, and

you certainly don’t know me, Mr. —”

“Lord,”

he corrected her with the slightest conceited bow. “Lord Rushwood.”

She

resisted the urge to roll her eyes. “Pardon me. Lord Rushwood.”

“You

may still call me Edmund.”

This

time she brought her hands to her face, ready to let out a frustrated scream.

He didn’t move as she parted her fingers and peeked through them. Growing more

annoyed, she dropped her hands to her sides and squared her shoulders.

“I

have thanked you…Edmund, so I will not be wrapping my arms around your neck and

inviting you up for a night of, whatever you call it in England—”

“Rogering?

Shagging?”

She

closed her eyes and brought in a therapeutic breath. “Never mind,” she replied,

trying to extinguish the blush spreading like a wildfire into her face.

Author Bio:

I was

born in historical Appomattox, Virginia. After graduating from high school, I

joined the military and served five years in the active duty Army. After

leaving, I decided to go into the Ohio Air National Guard where I retired as a

Master Sergeant in 2011. In case you were wondering, I have never flown a

plane. After getting lost to the recruiter’s office, I was highly discouraged

from navigating one.

I

admit, I am an avid Jane Austen fan and try to incorporate her in my books, in

one way or another. This dream of writing, with Jane sometimes, is an exciting

adventure that may take me as far as the stars or as close as my computer.

When

I’m not writing, I’m spending time with my husband and two boys, ages 12 and

10. Without their sacrifice and understanding, I would have never been able to

pursue my passion of writing or my accomplishment of becoming a published

author.

No

matter what I write and read, there ALWAYS has to be a happy ending.
